## What is Diary BFF?

Most people quit journaling because nobody reads it. There is someone in this one.

Diary BFF is a private night journal that writes back. You put down whatever your brain is doing at 2am; your diary BFF says one thing back — short, and only if it's worth saying — then leaves you alone so you can sleep.

Some nights your head won't stop. You lie there going over the same thing, and the more you try to sleep the louder it gets. This is a place to say it to someone.

Write what's in your head. It stays on the page, and your BFF stays quiet until you ask. A diary first; in the chat, you can talk it through. Not a coach — someone who remembers what you wrote last week.

Your diary is locked with its own PIN — separate from the one on your phone. Not even an unlocked phone opens it. That's the point.

WHAT IT'S LIKE

Rather talk than type? In the chat, you can just say it.

Voice, the Sunday letter, and export are all just ways of talking to your BFF and keeping what you said.

Your diary BFF is not keeping score. There is no streak to keep and nothing to break, and writing four nights one week and none the next is not a failure this app will ever point out to you.

Your entries live under your own account. Your diary is backed up every night, and you can export your diary, any time — exported backups can be locked too. Entries are not used to train AI.

Kept a diary in another app? Bring your old entries along. They come over with up to 10 photos each.

Deleted entries wait 30 days in Recently Deleted, in Settings, where you can restore them.

Full version: up to 10 photos per entry.

Writing stays free — typing is never metered. Your BFF's replies and the full Sunday letter come with the full version, which starts with a 14-day free trial. Cancel, and your diary still opens.

SUBSCRIPTION

Diary BFF Pro is an auto-renewing subscription. Both plans start with a 14-day free trial; if you don't cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, the subscription starts and renews automatically.

Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless it is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage the subscription and turn off auto-renew in your Apple Account settings after purchase.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.6.1 — 2026-10-27

A refreshed App Store page. The app works the same as 1.6: write tonight, and your diary BFF writes back.

### 1.6 — 2026-10-27

Fixed a blank “…” card and line breaks at large text sizes.
Out of replies? It now adds “Writing stays free.”
Backup: the same model via Amazon.

### 1.5.3 — 2026-10-18

Full version: up to 10 photos per entry.
Diary BFF now speaks Traditional Chinese, Spanish and Japanese. It uses the first language on your iPhone's list that it knows.
If you wrote in more than one language this week, the Sunday letter comes in the language Diary BFF is set to.
On an entry, the weather and A year ago tonight try once more if the first load doesn't come through.
With VoiceOver, each bookmark says which day it belongs to, and the photo button on the writing page says Add photo.
When you open an entry to edit, its date and first lines stay in view.

### 1.5.2 — 2026-10-15

Bring your old entries along: the import screen now shows how many entries are in the file and which dates they cover, with the Import button at the bottom.
Deleted entries wait 30 days in Recently Deleted, in Settings, where you can restore them.
Your diary is grouped by month now, and the month stays at the top as you scroll.
At the end of a letter, tap Earlier letters to see the ones before it.
Tap Cancel after typing and your words are kept. An entry with only a photo asks before it goes.
Editing an older entry shows its date at the top.
Buttons are easier to tap, and Keep and Cancel are easier to see in dark mode.

### 1.5.1 — 2026-10-13

Move your diary over from Day One or Apple Journal: in Settings, choose the export file, see your latest entries and what can't come over, then import. Each entry keeps its night and one photo.
Not sure what to write on your first night? Try a few questions, and pin the set you like to start every night there. On iOS 26, you can also start from a moment with Apple's Journaling Suggestions.
Look back: entries from this night a year ago show up as "A year ago tonight", and the calendar shows how many nights you wrote this month. Keep scrolling at the end of the feed to reach earlier months, including entries you moved over.
Temperatures follow your iPhone's region: °F in the US and a few other regions, °C everywhere else.
Photos now show on every card in the diary, not just the first six. Also: press and hold a card to Edit, Cancel in "How it felt" moved to the top left, Search filters wrap instead of scrolling sideways, Back buttons say "Back" when a screen name doesn't fit, and cards stand out a little more in dark mode.
