Great app. ### 5/5 — Phenomenal *2022-12-16, version 2.6.6* Dice by PCalc is literally the best designed, most versatile and one of the most truly magnificent Dice apps available. It’s perfect on iOS and iPadOS, but also recently discovered the joys of massive D20’s, etc. on screen via Apple TV!!! What?? When I wanted to make a custom die with the 24 Runic symbols of the Elder Futhark, James (Dev) explained how to accomplish that; it worked perfectly. Dice by PCalc keeps getting better with consistent updates and improvements throughout the year. Highly recommend. ### 5/5 — NICE *2022-11-08* This is just a really nice app all around. You *roll dice*. It’s like real dice—nice expensive dice—actually rolling. They behave realistically and are confidence-inspiringly for-real random: as far as I can tell, the numbers that come up do so because of actual, gut-satisfying, physics-based tumbling, not a random number generation algorithm you never fully buy into. They look beautiful and are very modifiable. Only thing resembling a “complaint” I have is that this app is a battery hog and my iPad heats up when I use it. I do not care and wouldn’t have it any other way: beautiful, physics-based dice-rolling. If cool-running battery-sipping is top priority, find a non-physics-based app that isn’t beautiful and knock yourself out. They’re available and the good ones work fine, you just won’t like them as much. I have suggestions/ideas, but they’re pluses and highly specific additions, not missing features worth dinging a superbly done app a half-star for. My main suggestion is “more dice please!” I’m becoming a little bit of a DCC/MCC geek lately, so it’d be amazing to have 3, 5, 7, 14, 16, 24, 30-sided zocchi dice in the app. My expectations are managed here: I’m aware these shapes aren’t normal, simple platonics whose creation maybe isn’t a trivial matter, and developers have to consider ROI. Just an idea. **Developer response:** Thanks! You’ll be glad to know there’s a DCC interface mode in version 2.6.4 which adds buttons for all these dice. Also great for playing craps, farkle, or farfadfausen to take one’s mind off things, even in zero g. If everything’s blinking red and there’s nothing you can do, then remember to open this app up. If nothing else, as a poetic gesture. And, at least the following moments will be somewhat playfully entertaining. As soon as the app opens on the watch it crashes. Still works great on iPhone. ### 2/5 — Pretty, but... *2020-02-05, version 1.7.2* It really is way nice and all to customize your dice and have all the fun fx when rolling, but as far as usefulness goes I’m mildly disappointed that basic necessities like stat rolling commands (or even the ability to set it up a “drop the lowest” command on your own) isn’t available like it is in previous dice-roller apps I’ve owned. It’s something I really expected to be included in a pay-to-use app. That said, now I have to download a secondary app just to do what I need to do. ### 3/5 — Still not working on Apple Watch *2025-03-27, version 2.8* This app used to work on my Apple Watch and hasn’t in a long time. I was hoping this update would fix it but it still just crashes. I have an Apple Watch Ultra 2. ### 3/5 — The watch app is very glitchy and doesn’t run well. *2022-01-07, version 2.4.4* I just bought this because I was excited about rolling dice on my wrist. Sadly the app barely works on the Apple Watch (running on a series 7, running latest watch os 8.3). It rolls fine once or twice and then glitches and stutters so bad you can’t use it. I’d love to give this another try once they fix the glitches. ### 3/5 — A mixed bag. Beautiful dice, frustrating UI. *2021-05-26, version 2.2.2* This app hides beautiful dice, physics, and lighting behind a tricky user interface. If you're rolling one dice at a time, get this app. If you're rolling multiple dice, I think there are better apps that deliver much better on the execution. The lighting is really beautifully rendered, the skins for the dice are lovely (check out the detailing on carbon fibre, the texturing is beautiful) and it's great to have such fine control over so many aspects of the app. But I find the app frustrating to actually use. I really don't like having the controls up the side in portrait orientation. It takes up too much space. Rolling multiple dice at once is a common operation and I find doing so in this app frustrating and something competing dice apps execute better on. I dislike how there isn't an option to auto-remove die when you roll a new die/dice, so dice just pile up. I really like having a lot of options for dice, their environment, and lighting, but again the UI really gets in the way. When I'm changing the dice, the environment, etc, I want to be able to see the dice, to see all the detail. Instead, I'm stuck in a menu and have to tap out to see the changes. I don't enjoy the camera angles when rolling multiple dice—I never have a great shot of all the dice. Controlling the camera feels unresponsive on my iPhone Xs and I couldn't find a good way to tilt the lens how I wanted to tilt it. I could go on. Particularly about the menus. As you can see, I have a lot of complaints. But the actual rendering of the dice really is fantastic. ### 3/5 — Needs options for other games *2019-10-09, version 1.5* Lovely looking application but as I can tell very focused on D&D type games. It would be nice to have an option for games like Warhammer where you roll nD6 and can see/filter all rolls that are over a certain score. ### 4/5 — Could benefit from more reroll options *2022-04-06, version 2.5.1* Great execution on existing features, and seems particularly patterned to meet the needs of D&D players. For my part Iwish it had a little more power in the UI for common rolling patternsfor Warhammer 40k and other Games Workshop games. This would be a lifesaver for 40k, as ork players can easily end up rolling 50+ dice for a roll. For example, a common pattern might be 30D6(drop <5), reroll(drop<4), reroll(drop <6). Currently there isn’t any way to reroll the existing dice on the table with drop settings. It would be great to see this added to the side similar to ADV/DIS (which we don’t need). Another common pattern might be rerolling all of the 1s in the tray. **Developer response:** Could you drop us a line at support@pcalc.com? I'd love to support other systems better, and would be happy to recruit you! ### 4/5 — Does the job *2019-06-30, version 1.0* I just spent 10 minutes flicking dice around on this app. I like the ADV/DIS and +1 features. Nice touches like haptics and the spoken results. I tried flicking one die into another to see if they affect each other; they do but not much. Shake-to-roll needed a hefty shake to activate. The dice. They sound like dice. They look like dice. You can style them in a hundred different ways. You can shake your iDevice and the dice will fly into the air in little parabolic arcs before bouncing down and off the edges and surfaces and each other, in a spectacular display of physics. Come for the random numbers, enjoy the show! Seriously - the ridiculously overdone care with which this app is made reminds one of a time when the majority of mac apps were made with such craftsmanship.
