### 2/5 — Not intuitive

*2025-01-14, version 6.5*

Just not intuitive at all, no tutorials or assistance built in. Not happy.

### 4/5 — Great for TTRPGs

*2024-02-13, version 6.5*

There are many digital character sheets in the world, and many digital dice rollers. However, both get clunky in most higher-level D20 systems where rolls have a variety of circumstantial modifiers and secondary effects that cannot be fully automated. That’s where Dice Ex Machina comes in: Dice Ex Machina’s folder system offers a simple way to craft complex outcomes, and has been a godsend for my play experience.

The only failing of the app is that the roll results gray out when any adjustments are made or the results are off-screen (such as in a large folder), losing the ability to confirm whether the underlying roll was a max/min. If this were fixed, it would be the best roller app I’ve ever used.

### 3/5 — not impressed enough to buy

*2024-01-04, version 6.5*

good design, but I don't feel the random factor is right based on a simple 2D6 roll repeated a number of times compared to physical dice roll or RND function in excel vba.

### 4/5 — Missing one thing that would make it perfect…

*2023-12-31, version 6.5*

You can read the other reviews to see how great this app is but I do think it’s missing one very important thing that some other dice got right: the feeling of rolling dice. Of course, no app is going to get this perfectly, because you don’t have physical dice in your hand. However there is awesome suspension when an app will mimic the physical rolling of dice, and you have to sit at the edge of your seat, mentally to wait for the result. This app just gives you the result immediately. Which I’m sure many people appreciate, but an option to have it on or off would just be perfect. Maybe in the future!

### 3/5 — No FATE dice?

*2023-08-04, version 6.5*

Haven’t used this much yet (I’ve just got back from my main convention and where it was a pain lugging a dice bag), but there doesn’t seem to be support for FATE dice (2 +, 2 -, and 2 blank on a cube). I suppose I could use the d3 as a substitute, but it’s remembering which way the numbers translate.

### 5/5 — Almost Perfect

*2023-07-13, version 6.5*

I’ve used this app for years, and I have never once regretted getting the premium version. The dice sets are the star of the show, but there’s plenty of usability features all around. As a DM I’ve used the calculator more times than I expected for weird rolls, and the extra row of rice shows this was made with DnD in mind. I keep all my monsters on my phone, making impromptu combats easy.

There’s only one thing I could ask for, and that’s the ability to make “composite” modifiers by referencing other modifiers. There’s many other TTRPGs that have multiple modifiers composed of other modifiers, and it would really round out dice sets to be able to do that.

### 4/5 — Great, but missing one thing

*2023-07-05, version 6.5*

This app is awesome, I’m using it to play the Star Wars Saga Edition Roleplaying Game. I’m able to make most of my dice rolls here, but would like the ability to add a certain statistic to my roll, for example adding the strength statistic to an attacking roll. Please, dev(s) could you make this an option, preferably in the free version? Overall, this app is insane and great at what it does! Totally recommend and would take it to 5 if the dev(s) added this feature.

### 4/5 — So close

*2023-03-04, version 6.5*

I want to love this as much as everyone else but between switching apps (for my character sheet) and adjusting my dice folders this app has been crashing on me frequently which is annoying. Difficult to track health and stats when the app crashes multiple times in a few minutes. It’s an absolutely fabulous dice roller though, and I really wanted to make use of the roll folders for my more complex rolls.

### 5/5 — Absolutely what I was looking for

*2023-01-14, version 6.5*

Works like a charm. Easy to use and I was happy to pay for the advanced version so that I can support the creators and get fudge dice!

### 5/5 — This is a great APP!!

*2022-11-28, version 6.5*

This app is fantastic. The free version includes so much functionality and ease of use. The pre set up example folder clearly illustrates how to use the app and how to make it work for you. It is customizable, functional, and fantastic.
It is perfect for a newbie or seasoned player of any TTRPG. It works from character creation helping you build your character and is easy to modify as you change stats, abilities, weapons, spells, and features.
Fantastic app.

### 5/5 — This is the dice app you want

*2022-11-10, version 6.5*

This app is perfect! I play games that use standard D&D dice and ones that need 10+ d6s. Being able to create folders and roll all the dice at once is amazing. I prefer this over carrying dice around with me when I travel. I don’t need the extra premium features, but bought the app anyway because it’s great and wanted to send the support. Great app!

### 2/5 — one of the dice is broken

*2022-08-29, version 6.5*

the d10 for rolling percentiles (idk what it’s called i’m new to dnd) rolls any number not just tens, almost every time i rolled it while testing out the app i got a random number like 56, 27, or 35.

### 5/5 — Perfect mobile companion

*2022-07-20, version 6.5*

Extremely easy to use, and has all the functionality you could need for a dice app. The ability to name and save big lists of any custom dice rolls makes this a great companion for DMs or players. So much value in one app for absolutely free. It’s incredible. You don’t need to pay $4 for the premium because it already works fantastic, but I would recommend it just to support this incredible app.

### 5/5 — Hiiiii

*2022-05-17, version 6.5*

So I absolutely LOVE dnd and this is literally perfect. If I’m outside I can still roll dice because I don’t have my 30 billion sets of dice. Love it. Btw if u like dnd message me my discord is: ingotbop#6087
Message me :>

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2022-05-15, version 6.5*

I needed a dice roller and I tried several of them. This is the only one that does everything I want easily and intuitively.

### 5/5 — D&D

*2022-04-19, version 6.5*

It works really good for Dungeons and dragons

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Ads and a pay wall

*2024-06-24, version 6.5*

Is at we better if you got rid of the ads and the pay wall or basic aesthetic.

### 1/5 — What?

*2023-07-28, version 6.5*

I literally wanted to roll a D6. That was all I wanted a single D6. I was literally in able to figure out how to roll anything at all even with my girlfriends help

### 1/5 — Collects lots of private information

*2023-04-22, version 6.5*

Collects lots of private information. Better to use Dungeon Dice which is similar but without all the surveillance.

### 1/5 — hard to grab

*2023-03-13, version 6.5*

its hard to grab

### 1/5 — What?

*2020-10-09, version 6.1*

Don’t care what dice roller you use. You use one you’ve used em all. This one? This one is special to me. I spent all game night adding my rolls to the preset list. Attack, crit, damage, etc. etc. then it froze. Then it reloaded. All my work was gone and wasted. Use a better app. Ain’t no body got time for that. Especially in game. Worst betrayal yet.

### 1/5 — Does not do landscape mode

*2020-07-13, version 6.0*

No landscape mode. 0/10.

### 1/5 — Always rolls low

*2020-04-07, version 5.8*

The d6 should have an average roll of about 4, but i rolled it 10 times and it had an average of 2.5.

### 1/5 — Bad RNG

*2020-03-03, version 5.8*

You’re definitely better off using real dice. The RNG is pretty brutal. And I know in theory it should be fair but the sub 10 rolls on their d20 is a lot higher than it should be :/

### 1/5 — Misleading

*2020-02-03, version 5.8*

I wanted to roll multiple of the same dice because I need their individual values not the dice total no way to simulate rolling 10 dice for example and seeing home may were 4+

### 1/5 — Awful disservice to those who paid

*2017-10-11, version 5.0*

I paid for the Dice Sets, and now they’re accessible to everyone. All I get is a nice ad free app when I can just disconnect Data from the app for that. Extremely stupid, there should be some form of premium content.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Fast, Efficient and Customizable

*2026-02-19, version 6.5*

This is the best dice app for me and has the features I want immediately and ones I’m certain I will take advantage of later. Small steps right now. I use other dice beyond the traditional polyhedra (like in DCC) and having those physical dice can be inconvenient or impossible. I used Dice Ex Machina to create a folder with all the non-standard values I need and can tap the one I want or all simultaneously.

### 5/5 — Perfection

*2025-11-04, version 6.5*

This app is so excellent for my gaming needs at the table.

### 5/5 — Very handy

*2025-08-18, version 6.5*

Very good, no farting around, just dice 9/10

### 5/5 — The Black Hand

*2025-01-02, version 6.5*

All the choices you need for classic cars, smokes & counter counting. Come on.

Do you really need to watch a number till it lands? What good is it when Rosencrantz & Guildenstern argued this with a quarter every morning till it was precedent to step aside Shakespeare’s stage and wonder why.

### 5/5 — Fastest dice roller

*2024-12-20, version 6.5*

Great for resolving large amounts of attacks/damage dice.

Can you add a function for ‘exploding dice’ like shadowrun?

### 5/5 — Amazing app

*2024-11-23, version 6.5*

Would love to see a watch app version for this app.

### 5/5 — Best dice calculator type app

*2024-10-10, version 6.5*

IMO, The best dice calculator type app for baseball Sims. So easy to set up all the dice rolls you need for the various charts. The only thing I think is missing your support for multiplication. That would allow for some of the odder dice needs of games like Statis-Pro, which needs two base eights dice concatenated.Be even odder classic Sports Illustrated (10-39) could be supported too.

### 5/5 — It’s a really great app!

*2023-12-19, version 6.5*

This app is absolutely excellent, between the full dice sets, the custom sets to use for rolling character action quickly, and the wonderful interface and function! There’s also a dice calculator, which is really useful for some more complex rolling, especially as a dm as well!

The premium is also a one time purchase, and the main features aren’t locked behind a paywall; it unlocks some extra peripheral dice, colors, handy extra dice settings!

Something I think would be pretty fun would be to have some different sound effects for dice rolls, like a clack sound, a longer dice rolling sound, maybe a thump sound, but that’s just a fun little quirk I think would add some nice atmosphere, even if it’s just with the premium version.

Overall, excellent app! Great features, great premium pricing, and I’ll definitely be purchasing it in the future to support the creator!

### 5/5 — Dice Ex Machina

*2023-10-18, version 6.5*

Really finds that sweet spot between doing what you need (rolling various dice) without doing what you don’t (noise and animations)
The feature that really stands out in this one is that you can group your dice into “sets“ and roll the sets all at once. Perfect for quick NPC creation.

### 5/5 — Brilliant, likely everything you’ll need

*2023-07-13, version 6.5*

This app has so many features and a way to join them together, it’s likely all you’ll need to track a character and roll dice for every common situation, and most uncommon ones too, for any edition of D&D and most other dice based gaming systems. And after you’ve done all the setup work, you can back up everything simply by sending a copy to yourself… even better.

If you don’t need all that, and just want to roll your Magic Missile damage of 5D4+5, it’ll do that too, without any setup.
