Get in a single application the most comprehensive offline Portuguese and English/Portuguese bilingual dictionaries: the "Michaelis Dicionário Brasileiro da Língua Portuguesa" and the "Michaelis Moderno Dicionário Inglês". Together, these dictionaries contain more than 1 million definitions, translations, expressions and examples.

The "Michaelis Moderno Dicionário da Língua Portuguesa" was completely reviewed, updated and expanded, and is now named "Michaelis Dicionário Brasileiro da Língua Portuguesa". It took more than 15 years of work to get you the most complete and updated dictionary of the Portuguese language spoken in Brazil, exclusively in digital format.

The contents of the entire dictionaries follow the Portuguese Language Orthographic Vocabulary (VOLP, 5th edition, March 2009), respecting the changes introduced by the Portuguese Language Orthographic Agreement of 1990.

Made with scientific and lexicographical rigor, both dictionaries are updated with terms created due to the development of science and technology, and new words used in the many communication medias, including regionalisms, colloquialisms and slang.

The application was created using state-of-the-art technology, presenting results immediately when querying for a word, with a clean and objective user interface optimized for iPhone/iPod and iPad.

I’ve had this app for about a week and it’s extremely glitchy. It rarely responds to whatever word I put in to translate. I paid $13.00usd (R$65) and I would love my money back. I DO NOT recommend this application.

This dictionary may not serve the needs of either Portuguese speakers or of English speakers as well as they might wish. Most importantly, since both languages have complicated orthographic and pronunciation systems, the lack of an IPA representation of the phonemes is a significant weakness. There are recorded sounds instead, but the quality is so poor that I had trouble understanding the performance of several common English words. In addition, if the environment is noisy, as it might be out on the street, you’re not going to hear these at all.

The history mechanism is very clunky. There’s no way to just use a keystroke or a button to go backward and forward in the history; you have to change to history mode to see the list. In addition, if you go back and forth between several nodes, each visit becomes a new entry in the history list, so the utility of the list gets smaller and smaller.

I am glad to see another good English-Portuguese dictionary available in the App Store. I have been using the Collins bilingual released by Ultralingua. The Portuguese content is stronger in this dictionary, I think, but that program is easier to use. You might want to look at both of them.

O aplicativo é fantástico, mas precisa de atualização pra melhorar as ferramentas. Uma sugestão é tornar o aplicativo compatível com Slide Over e Split View, o que tornará o app muito mais fácil de utilizar, principalmente quando precisamos consultar um verbete enquanto utilizamos outro app.
