They push you to buy the gems by making it harder to keep factions satisfied if you can't pay them off back into the green zone. The oil rig only generates 50k per turn. How can we do anything or even play the game for a long time if you make it this annoying to keep factions satisfied and pay them off? And the other option is what, locking them up for a couple turns and losing 200k per turn per jailed faction? The decisions in this game take a bunch of your cash and then if you don't have enough gems to keep your treasury enough to pay off expenses, you get deposed. Literally unplayable. Then, when I died, my reputation said I appointed “a gay” for the minister of defence. As “a gay” I must say I was somewhat offended. I know it may have not intentionally been one but it came off as homophobic and dismissive. If you’re gonna be a homophobe, do it in private. Or at least tell me what the intention was, if not homophobic in intent. Maybe it’s social commentary?
