Die Vokabel wird dann nicht gespeichert. Unter iOS 13.3 stürzt sie nach jedem Start reproduzierbar ab. Damit ist sie derzeit leider unbrauchbar. I found a mistake though in the grammar entry under “typische Fehler „ for “rise”. Pluperfect is listed as “rise” instead of “risen”. I contacted the developers but no joy. We will correct the mistake. ### 3/5 — Grundsolide mit visuellem Renovierungsbedarf *2018-09-22* Grundsolide Wörterbuch-App, die ich seit ersten iPhone-Tagen an Bord habe. Bitte nur endlich mal auch fürs iPhone X anpassen – dann gibt’s gerne den vierten Stern. Den fünften dann für ein etwas frischeres Layout. Thanks. kundenservice@pons.de ### 2/5 — Vokabeltrainer *2018-03-18* Das Wörterbuch von einem der Marktführer ist umfangreich, detailliert und einfach großartig. Ich benutze es unterwegs und im Ausland. Bislang habe ich die gelungene Kombination aus dem Online-Wörterbuch und dem Vokabeltrainer von PONS genutzt. Insbesondere die Synchronisation ist ausgeklügelt, da man in der Online-Wörterbuch-App Wörter nachschlagen kann und anschließend in der Vokabeltrainer-App und im Internet lernen kann. Weiterhin stellen die synchronisierten Vokabellisten ein gewisses Backup dar. In der Annahme, dass diese App die gleiche Logik beim Vokabeltrainer nutzt, kaufte ich diese App. Leider geht die App aber einen eigenen Weg beim Vokabeltrainer. Es gibt keine Synchronisation und Vokabeln können nur in dieser App gelernt werden. Das enttäuscht sehr und gibt deshalb deutlichen Abzug in der Bewertung. Schade, dass die kostenlose Lösung durchdachter ist, als das kostenpflichtige Wörterbuch. **Developer response:** Hallo, wir freuen uns, dass Ihnen die PONS Wörterbuch App gefällt. Der PONS Online-Übersetzer und das PONS Wörterbuch Englisch - Deutsch ADVANCED sind technisch separate Apps zwischen denen ein Austausch nicht möglich ist. In der PONS Wörterbuch Englisch - Deutsch ADVANCED App gibt es verschiedene Möglichkeiten zum Vokabelnlernen: Lernen Sie den Grundwortschatz mit Lernspielen oder individuell definierte Vokabeln mit klassischen Vokabelkarten. ### 4/5 — Gutes Update mit Fehler *2017-03-24* Das Update ist wirklich gelungen und iOS 10 endlich würdig, jedoch gibt es Abzug dafür, dass ich nach dem Update die App neuinstallieren musste und somit einige Nutzerdaten verloren habe. ### 2/5 — Free apps like dict.cc and linguee are better *2016-01-20, version 3.59.23* It’s very frustrating to buy the PONS app and then discover that I have an easier time finding numerous words when I use dict.cc or linguee apps, which don’t cost anything (except a pittance if you want to get rid of ads). I hardly ever use the app anymore because I’ve had so many fruitless searches on it. That said, I’ve lived in Germany for 15 years and only tend to look up “difficult” words. They still ought to be in the dictionary, though. ### 4/5 — Good content but needs better interface design *2015-11-14* This is an advanced learner's dictionary, accordingly the content itself i.e. the word coverage, is comprehensive. It has word games to which the user can add words. The app has flash cards that help learning. The dictionary also has a grammar section that's handy. There are four jumps of browsing (previous/next word looked up, previous/next word in dictionary order, previous menu, back to clipboard) for which the screen options are well laid-out and intuitive. However, it's not without (soft) flaws: - it has a clipboard lookup function that could have been better designed. PONS failed to understand that if a user wants to see meaning of many words of a paragraph at a time, he/she probably does not want to jump from word to word all the time. A bit more thought on that functionality would help. Having said that, the thought of adding a clipboard lookup itself is commendable! - in a world where there's "family sharing" and one uses multiple Apple devices, it's truly bad that there's no ability of viewing the favourites and word lists by logging into the app. I have two Apple devices but sadly I can use the word lists only on one or have to manually create the list across devices. However, in general this is a well made app (what's there works!) based on a strong dictionary. I look forward to even better versions of this app. Recommended provided there are improved versions in the making. ### 4/5 — Almost perfect for daily use (Version 3.11) *2015-09-18* The lastest update crashes on my iPhone 4 under iOS 7.1.2, it stays in the background but user Interface always disappears after a few seconds. Please fix this quickly. I purchased this app quite a while ago and found the available entries to be sufficient even in daily use in business and engineering. The Version 3.11 added comprehensive lists of irregular verbs, flash cards for easy learning and audio output. What would make it even better is a flag at the top indicating which language you are entering combined with switching to the right keyboard layout. Also an option to upgrade from advanced to business or premium with only paying differential price would be nice. ### 4/5 — Good for offline use *2015-05-25, version 3.58.240* I love that I can get to this on my iPhone 5 even in airplane mode and that they have a decent amount of pronunciations. This isn't Leo.org but gets me through most questions I have. Overall pretty good little pocket dictionary. ### 1/5 — Frustrating and non intuitive Flashcards *2014-12-22, version 3.56.489* The instructions and user interface for flash cards is just bad and not intuitive. After struggling for some time and trying to make sense of the "Help", I gave up. ### 1/5 — Pons German-English dictionary *2014-09-21* Doesn't open in iOS8. Don't spend money on it at this point! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Too many clicks *2026-05-07* To add a word to flash card needs at least 3 clicks. Can I just add it like I add it to favorites? To play the quiz also needs too many clicks. I cannot swap between flashcards easily. I have to answer the questions right or wrong, before I can move over. I don’t care about the scores! I just want to refresh those words! I hope next version can improve this. ### 1/5 — Erwürgte App *2025-04-03* Mit Mühe eine App für Durchschnittsnutzer - sehr viele Begriffe fehlen, geknebelte Suche, nur ein-Wort-Eingabe, … diese App ist ein Artefakt; dafür ist der Preis satt überzogen. Keine Kaufempfehlung, ab jetzt lieber wieder die ollen Bücher. Da findet man wenigstens halbwegs das Gesuchte. Bin immer wieder enttäuscht, wenn ein erneutes ‚ich-versuch’s-nochmal-mir-der-pons-App‘ ins Leere läuft. ### 1/5 — Wird nicht mehr unterstützt *2022-01-27* Update: … und dann so‘n Spruch … tut uns leid … geben weiter … als Antwort … nach Wochen! The PONs translator does a better job. Vielen Dank! ### 1/5 — Só deixa a desejar... *2015-03-03* É para alemães que querem aprender inglês. Não serve para quem já sabe inglês, mas quer aprender alemão... Infelizmente, os verbetes em inglês são muito superiores aos em alemão. É raro achar uma tabela ou explicação mais detalhada na parte alemã. Sinto que é mais voltado para quem quer aprender inglês, não o contrário... A tecnologia deixa muito a desejar! É como se os desenvolvedores desconhecessem completamente as necessidades de usuários em plataformas móveis: - o reconhecimento de escrita manual é horrível, principalmente no iPhone. - universal, com bookmarks, flash cards e histórico. Ok, mas cade o iCloud? Não sincroniza nem exporta nada... - ainda que o tamanho da fonte seja ajustável, os verbetes continuam tão espremidos quanto uma versão impressa. Pouco usa cores ou formatação para facilitar a localização em verbetes extensos. - palavras difíceis sem a pronúncia são maioria. - pouco ajuda quem ainda tem dificuldade em gênero e plural em alemão. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Excellent *2025-10-26* It’s hard to find good advanced dictionaries in the App Store these days, but this is miraculously still here. It’s worth the money and works fine in in ios 26. ### 5/5 — Gutes Wörterbuch ABER *2019-08-19* Man merkt, dass das PONS Wörterbuch von Sprachwissenschaftlern erstellt wurde. Es ist teuer aber wirklich gut. Zwar noch kein IphoneXS angepasstes Format aber trotzdem mein absolutes go to Wörterbuch als Englischlehrer. The entries are exact matches to those I've compared with entries in my hardcover copy of their 2001 Deutsch-Englisch volume of the Pons Worterbuch fur Schule und Studium (add umlauts). I want to spend my money and feel like I got my money's worth. I have downloaded several other language software before and been disappointed. Not this time. I have learned more in the past hour than I could possibly imagine. It is a complete and easy to search words, and comes with plurals (which most dictionaries don't). However everything else with this dictionary is exceptional. The ability to copy anything in memory and have it come up immediately in the dictionary is great. The definitions are right on and the example sentences are invaluable to understand how the word is used. I am looking up German words and the definitions are clear. Great bargain, very good dictionary. I wonder what could have been left out in the premium. Great job Pons!!! I wonder if those with the premium would comment.
