It’s been my constant companion in my courses of learning. Although easy to navigate, it freezes sometimes and other times some words are not given out as definitions but in its usage in sentences. Happens mostly with conjunctive words. I don’t mind that but that’s why I’ve taken out a star. What I love most about the app is when it tell you the gender of a word, what it means as a nous, verb, adverbs, conjunction etc. It’s an encyclopedia in the palm of my hands. Really helpful and appreciate the pronunciation but the constant freezing is EXTREMELY aggravating ### 1/5 — Just a glorified third party tracker, download at your own expense *2026-06-27* This app refuses to work if you don’t give it network access, and it even says “In order for our app to work, we need you to provide network access so we can track your location and build a profile of you.” Nice vague language to gloss over the fact that it’s probably building a consumer profile of you that it can sell to companies for profit. Just says “profile” as if it’s going to whip you up some kind of personal Duolingo learning profile. It’s not. No other dictionary requires your location and network access to function so don’t be an idiot and just get another dictionary or else you’re going to be slammed with corporate trackers and spam mail. ### 1/5 — Why require location for a dictionary app? *2026-03-27, version 2.5.4* The app requires that the user permits location data prior to usage for so called “network access”. This doesn’t pass the smell test and appears gratuitous. The privacy policy states that it retain the full IP address for 14 days. This also seems way more than expected for a reference app. ### 1/5 — Security Risk *2026-03-18, version 2.5.4* Already had to give it a one-star simply due to the security risk this app poses. I shouldn't need to give an app local network permissions just to access a dictionary. This is really invasive and they don't provide any explanation for why they require this, which is really shady. However, lately whenever I put a short phrase in English to be translated into French, the wheel spins on the screen, and it crashes, popping out of the app and going back to the main page on my phone. Repeatedly.
