### 2/5 — Bugs that destroy my work

*2025-04-09, version 3.7.1*

Good app at first but it’s been deleting my frames for no reason. It’s really frustrating to work so hard on a frame and all of a sudden it disappears.

### 3/5 — Slow to fix

*2024-06-03, version 3.7.1*

They say they are working on fixes. Expect years before they actually fix the bugs if ever.

### 4/5 — Brush Size Bug

*2024-05-14, version 3.7.1*

Hello! I am enjoying the initial trial, and I will most likely unlock the upgrade, but one thing I’m having trouble with is an incessant bug that increases the brush size to where it nearly fills the entirety of the canvas. I find that there’s not really a way around it unless I either go to the menu or restart the app again. This bug seemed to happen almost every time I would draw near the margins/edges of the canvas. Separately, It also crashes quite a bit, though I’m wondering if that has to do with my device at all. Thanks in advance. This app is a very wonderful animation app that is very easy for me to understand. I think I’ll enjoy the upgraded version as well.

### 3/5 — Semi functional

*2023-08-10, version 3.7.1*

I bought the app because I needed an animation program but it’s kinda janky unfortunately. It crashes constantly but only saves your progress 50% of the time when it does that and sometimes and just decides not to download correctly?? I used it for 20 minutes and it crashed 3 times during that. I would use it more if it were more stable but I wouldn’t even mind all of that if it had a stabiliser for the pen.

The layout is pretty easy to get a handle on though and the app is pretty beginner friendly. I’ve been using it for small things where I draw in another app and import to this to throw it together and it’s functional. Like I said I’d love for it to have a stabiliser or a feature that lets you select multiple photos to import at one time.

### 4/5 — Pen

*2023-07-31, version 3.7.1*

Very good but the pen pressure needs to e harder and more responsive other than that perfect!!

### 3/5 — Easy to use but buggy

*2022-08-18, version 3.7.1*

Crashes a lot on my iPad, unfortunately. No save function, only export, would love a save button for an app that crashes so frequently to give me that extra security that I won’t lose my work. Also, even though I upgraded to Pro, I can’t see an option to add more layers. Otherwise this is a great little app for diving straight in to simple animation.

### 2/5 — When it worked it was great

*2022-07-07, version 3.7.1*

That’s it

### 5/5 — I found a bug. (Great app btw)

*2022-06-04, version 3.7.1*

This bug is harmless and doesn’t happen on accident but- you can zoom in on your picture infinitely and soon enough the screen appears to be bouncing around the canvas rotating at light speed.
Over all this is not the greatest explanation and the bug is completely harmless and only happens if you zoom in a lot farther than you would need.

### 4/5 — Audio scrubbing is bugged

*2022-05-06, version 3.7.1*

I used audio for timing an animation. Whenever I scrub through the animation the audio is not in the same location as the animation, instead it scrubs through the beginning of the audio. Also there should be a feature that lets you set an amount of frames rather than tapping the plus button all the time.

### 3/5 — FlipPad Crashes when uploading videos

*2022-04-14, version 3.7.1*

FlipPad is pretty great because you can take it on the go, the interface is really clean and intuitive. However, I’ve noticed that FlipPad does crash when I try to upload videos. I work on a Wacom cintique on windows at home and I just find it easier to use. But sometimes I like to switch my animation to the individual frames from flip book and upload it to my flippad, I can upload a file of frames in two seconds on flip book, but I have to upload frames one by one to FlipPad which is frustrating when I have 300 frames. Additionally when I try uploading my animation as a video instead, it will upload the sound but not the frames, and then directly after crash.

### 3/5 — Very bad bug

*2022-03-05, version 3.7.1*

This animation app works amazing normally! I would totally give five stars. But as of late, every time I try to do anything on a frame, it not only doesn’t respond, it just does this X thing on the frame ai tried to draw on. Am I doing something wrong? I didn’t change how I did things from before so I don’t think so, but it just sucks that I can:t use the app anymore.

### 3/5 — Solid, but not perfect

*2022-02-21, version 3.7.1*

Note: this review is based on my experiences with the free version of the app - it's entirely possible that some of the problems I've run into are fixed in the paid version, but with no indication of that in the trial, I'm not currently inclined to upgrade, even at such a low price.

As a piece of animation software, FlipPad is highly intuitive and easy to use. The pencil and pen tool both look better than the defaults I've seen in a lot of other animation programs, chiefly due to their traditional-media texture look (always been a sucker for traditional cels).

Frame rate and individual frames' timing can be changed on the fly, and there's a dedicated button for flipping back and forth between adjacent frames to check movement. As for the light table/onion skinning feature, the ability to set your onion skin to any frame in a sequence is a game-changer for sketching out looping sprites, or for making sure that your frames transition neatly across multiple poses. This is a feature I'd love to see more software start to incorporate, and I'm happy to see it here.

However, I have run into quite a few bugs over the course of my time with the app, as well as some serious limitations that make me hesitate to use it for finished work:

1) Bugs - Several times, I've had the brush abruptly switch to a gigantic size without my touching the brush controls. It places a large dot somewhere on the canvas without me having touched stylus to screen. I've been able to remove this by hitting Undo, so it's not a serious issue, but it seems to be recurring when switching from one frame to another - especially when you have a higher frame count. I also ran into a crash while testing playback for a simple looping animation - only a few lines were lost, but it was still an issue.

2) Export limitations - This could just be a resolution thing, but I found upon trying to export a sketch animation drawn in red pen that the lines underwent heavy artifacting and the color became darker and more desaturated. Having only tested this when exporting a video format, I'm not sure whether the problem also exists when you export frames. Additionally, at least in the free version of the software, you are only able to export video files or frames-as-images; there is no option for an animated image format, such as .gif, which is better for online use if you don't have audio attached to your file.

3) Playback issues - I've also found that the program will consistently skip certain frames when playing back an animation more than once - this is especially pronounced when working with a larger number of frames (~50) at a standard (24fps) frame rate. Problem being, that's at a canvas size of 800x600 - on a new-model iPad Pro. This same device smoothly runs 1080p animations in Clip Studio Paint EX, so it's definitely not the machine's fault. I hate to think what this frame-drop problem looks like at higher resolutions. This problem does NOT occur on exported files since they're prerendered, though note the rendering issues mentioned in (2).

4) Lack of transparency options - In the free version, at least, there is no way I've found to convert your image to a transparent canvas. For scenes and motion comics, this is perfectly fine - but for someone like me, who likes to sketch out character poses for game sprites and then refine their animations in something like Aseprite or a vector animation solution, it's not a great match for my workflow of choice. More a personal gripe than a real complaint, though, so take this one with a grain of salt.

Overall, while I like this program's UI and enjoy using it, with the issues noted above I can neither recommend it for polished pieces, nor can I see myself upgrading to the paid version at this point in time. I can see it being good for a beginning animator or a student looking to learn, which is presumably why it's popular with art teachers (at least according to the advertising copy). For professional use-cases, or for game animation, however, it leaves some things to be desired. Hopefully some of these issues will be addressed in future versions.

### 5/5 — Nice to see an app that does animation right

*2022-02-07*

Every studio I’ve worked at does it this way. It’s easy to understand and doesn’t bog me down with complicated processes and too many steps. Keep up the good work.

**Developer response:** Glad you like it. Thanks for the review.

### 5/5 — This app is awesome 🤩 So Happy 😁😃👍🏽👍🏽

*2022-01-20, version 3.7.1*

I’m very happy to see the changes and updates to this app! Before, I kept getting kicked out while I was doing my animations. I noticed someone else also had the same problem, but now, it doesn’t happen anymore! I’m also happy to see that the developer has been attending to the needs of those who wrote a review. This app is fun, and easy to use. Anyone who says this app is junk has very much a problem! Thanks so much!

### 1/5 — Lost my work

*2026-07-22, version 3.7.1*

The app keeps randomly kicking me out and it has erased a lot of the work I’ve done.

### 1/5 — This has bugs

*2026-06-01, version 3.7.1*

I don’t know about you guys, but 2 dollars is just to much. The animation is so choppy no matter how many frames or fps you are at/on. I was just playing it, and it shot me out the app! When I went back in to the app, all of my projects were gone! Please fix bugs. I am not trying to hurt the creators feeling, but this sucks!

### 1/5 — O

*2023-03-21, version 3.7.1*

This app seems cool but but very hard to navigate and does not have lots of options

### 1/5 — App Froze Won’t Reload Without Paying For It Again,

*2022-11-29, version 3.7.1*

This animation app has been pretty great and helpful until it freezes up and you have to delete it and reload it. This is only the second time it’s happened since we purchased the app in August of this year 2022. However, it’s at a truly frustrating point that it occurred. My son is one fourth of the way done with his animation assignment and the the app froze up completely. We tried closing and restarting the app., Updating the iPad Pro, restarting the iPad Pro, deleting only the project he is currently working on and finally deleting the app entirely. I just tried to reload the app and it’s giving me the option to purchase the upgrade price of $1.99. It’s not that much money but it shouldn’t be this way. Please fix this problem for us so he can continue with his work today.

### 1/5 — Idk how to use it it dose not show

*2022-07-02, version 3.7.1*

I don’t know how to use it and at the start it’s really really confused it just show words

### 1/5 — Do not buy this game

*2022-06-29, version 3.7.1*

every. Time. I tri to draw it draw homonges
Pls fix this

### 1/5 — Why can i not upload more than one sound file?

*2021-12-17, version 3.7.1*

I need multiple sound files for the different stuff in my cartoon. You think I can perfectly record every single different sound and thing for the entire cartoon all in one long take? Cuz I can't reasonably do that. Pls fix this glaring lack of a needed feature.

Also, colour wheel seems like half obscured?

### 1/5 — Bad game do not play 😡

*2021-09-25, version 3.7.1*

So I saw the first thing on the App Store and it looked so cool. But then when I got it it was to fast and there was only ten spaces. So I conceded FlipaClip way better nockoff app never get peace out!!!!!!

### 1/5 — Needs to be fixed

*2021-05-30, version 3.7.1*

This app seemed fine at first, but when I tried to import sound from files, the app crashed, every single time. I couldn't even open the project after each crash. Also, when I import sound from music, I can't go back and change it at all. Even when I close the app and return to the project, I can't replace the sound with something else. Please fix

### 1/5 — Good

*2021-04-14, version 3.6*

Good

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Wow!

*2025-05-10, version 3.7.1*

This is basically the iPad animation software you always wanted. Wish I had landed on it sooner! Can’t say enough good things about it. Just simple enough, just enough features, a work of art.

### 5/5 — Good

*2025-01-24, version 3.7.1*

Just wish the camera moved more smoothly and to undo I could press with two fingers like in procreate, other than that awesome

### 5/5 — Amazing, yet still needs more (edited, with a better explanation)

*2024-08-12, version 3.7.1*

I use this app for basically all my videos. It's nice, and easy to use! Yet, I have some suggestions. I feel like you could add more brushes, and tools, like a watercolor paintbrush or something. Second, we need more than 1000 frames. Last time I tried added more than 1000 it didn't let me, and I even paid for the upgrade. Third, we should be able to like make the background sounds in the app like in Flipaclip. I have to make a video in iMovie with a blank background, and put together the sound there and import it onto the app. That's also how I'm able to get past 1000 frames. We should also be able to add text because my handwriting is sloppy. Besides it would look better, with all the fonts and stuff. That's really all, but the app does crash sometimes, and deletes what I had on the frame I was on. Also can you add the option to add lighting? It's such a pain. We need pens that can make things brighter and darker. Like, you color something with that pen and that color(s) becomes brighter/darker. (I don’t know your email address so I edited this with a better explanation.) Anyway, I'm done talking. Please read this :) (oh and also the option to pan the camera around like in anime, where it does ken burns and stuff)

### 5/5 — I paid for the upgrade and it didn’t work

*2023-11-17, version 3.7.1*

This is a good app. However, a parent paid for the upgrade. And it didn’t work. Please make sure to fix it, please and thank you.

### 5/5 — Hallelujah - An app that does it right!

*2023-10-17, version 3.7.1*

Not only does this app work the way the studios work but it’s so easy that I can focus on my animation without having to worry about how the app works. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

### 5/5 — Good stuff!

*2022-11-18, version 3.7.1*

Wrote a review before, but I don’t think it went through. Anyway, I don’t have time to rewrite it all, so let me just say, this app is great! I was on a quest for a reliable, professional program, and I finally found this one, and it has every feature I need. Thank you!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review and the 5 stars. That really helps. We started off with the features you NEED and now we're about to add several new features that you might WANT.

### 5/5 — Embarrassing how good this app is for the price

*2022-10-30, version 3.7.1*

This thing is great. It’s easy to navigate, it’s easy to drop outside art into it. The controls are all very basic- but they make sense. So much better then the more expensive animation apps I just tried. Bravo!

### 5/5 — Great App

*2022-10-04, version 3.7.1*

Great App! Very intuitive easy to use. I do think it could use some more features like some kind of ruler and being able to undo and redo with touch Gester.
