## What is Dim Hour?

Dim Hour is the restaurant guide for people who actually care where they eat. Every spot is chosen and scored 0-100 by us - not crowdsourced, not averaged from strangers, not paid for. The inputs are the sources that matter: Michelin, James Beard, Eater, The Infatuation, Bon Appetit, and the local critics who know their cities block by block.

22 CITIES. ZERO FILLER.
New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas, San Diego, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Nashville, New Orleans, Charlotte, Washington DC, Toronto, and Mexico City - each with neighborhood-level guides, so you eat well in whichever part of town you're standing in.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
- The map - every pick plotted, filterable by cuisine, price, neighborhood, vibe, or accolade. Scan a neighborhood visually and know instantly what's worth it.
- Venue cards - photos, the score, what to order, and one-tap booking via Resy, Tock, or OpenTable.
- Hotels, parks, and POIs - new: where to stay, where to walk it off, and what's worth seeing between meals, held to the same bar as the restaurants.
- Neighborhood guides - curated picks organized by area. Deep Ellum, Williamsburg, Silver Lake, the French Quarter - know exactly where to go.
- Hospitality groups - track the chefs and operators behind your favorite spots. Every concept they run, in one place.
- The Butler - an AI concierge that answers from our database, not the open internet. Tell it the occasion, the budget, the vibe; get a real pick.
- Trip planning - multi-city trips with a shortlist for every stop.
- Wishlists - save what you want to try, by city or by trip.

FREE. NO ADS. NO CATCH.
Dim Hour is free. No ads, no sponsored listings, no paid placements. Whether you're a local tired of mediocre suggestions or a traveler who refuses to waste a meal - this is the guide.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.18 — 2026-08-29

Two brand-new cities - Portland and New Mexico - join the guide, which now spans 22 cities and 844 more places, with hundreds more photos, hours, menus, and websites filled in. Venue cards say more: the chef or owner where we can verify it, and what's actually happening right now, from residencies to weekly nights - and anything past its end date quietly disappears. Plus a big accuracy pass: dead booking links removed, wrong "no reservations" labels fixed, and awards cleaned of anything that isn't a real win. Hotels, parks, and landmarks now live in one place.

### 1.17 — 2026-08-24

Dim Hour is light now. The whole app was rebuilt around a light interface with the same gold accents, so it reads properly in daylight, on a plane, or across a dim restaurant table. Prefer the old look? Dark is still there as a toggle — it just isn't forced on you after sunset anymore.

Back and Forward now move between tabs, so leaving a venue returns you where you were instead of dumping you at the top of the app.

Restaurants with more than one location finally say so: 677 venues across 282 groups now show their sibling locations on the card.

Places that don't take reservations tell you what to do instead. A real walk-in module replaces the Book button, and the booking answer moved up next to the photo. That also fixed a bug where a walk-in door policy was silently deleting the Book button on 641 cards.

Sign in with Apple is verified working, and Continue with Google joins it.

New in this release: 325 restaurants across 19 cities, a Fort Worth section in the Dallas guide, and 71 duplicate listings quarantined so a place appears once.

Better data on cards you already had: hundreds more venues list real hours and phone numbers read off their own sites, roughly 250 Instagram links now point at the right account, 473 out-of-region phone numbers were caught and checked, and 68 venues list real dishes and cocktails taken from their actual menus.

Fixes you'll notice: maps that rendered as an empty box, the photo carousel sticking on iOS, the mobile date picker, pressing Enter doing nothing anywhere in the app, venues with a dead photo showing an empty frame, finished events listed under "Upcoming," the concierge button with no label, 112 dead pins in Atlas, 42 cards hiding their score, and links from outside the app opening Dim Hour but dropping the page you actually tapped.

### 1.16 — 2026-08-12

Booking got real. Tap Book on a venue and pick your date, time and party size — we hand OpenTable and Resy the details so you land on the right page with your table already set up. We also repaired around 550 reservation links that led nowhere and fixed 382 venues whose button said one platform but opened another. Trips are social now: share a code and anyone who joins lands in the same trip you're in, with a group chat on the card. Over 600 venue cards that were rendering with no image at all now show their photo, and we replaced hundreds more with the venue's own photography. Every card carries better data — 1,900 more venues list their hours, 1,240 more have working reservation links, and around 1,000 more link straight to their menu, plus 204 new spots and duplicate listings merged. Fixes you'll notice: translucent panels that rendered as flat grey blocks on iOS 17 and earlier, pinch-to-zoom working everywhere again, venues with no rating no longer showing five stars, search photos no longer cropped on both sides, the "Where have you been?" list no longer capped at 150 spots, and share cards and PDF exports rebuilt to work at any number of spots.

### 1.15 — 2026-07-21

Thousands more of the restaurants people are actually talking about.

We expanded our Viral picks across all 20 cities, so the spots trending
with local food writers and creators now surface everywhere we cover —
not just in a handful of metros.

We also went through the major restaurant groups in every city and
corrected venue details that were out of date, including a few listings
that had drifted onto the wrong location.

### 1.13 — 2026-07-15

Faster, smoother, and easier to explore:

- Dramatically faster launch. The app now opens in a moment instead of hanging on a loading screen.
- Fixed a bug where the map could stay blank or never finish loading.
- We no longer ask for notification permission the first time you open the app. You can turn notifications on anytime from your Profile.
- A refreshed app icon and launch screen.
- Improved text legibility and contrast throughout.
- Hundreds of new venues, more signature dishes, and updated details across cities.
- Various bug fixes and reliability improvements.
