I was going to give this a 3 star review based on secondary issues, but I felt the food plan alone deserved the 4 stars. OnTrac is not a very good delivery service. Delivery instructions on file and printed on the label say “deliver to back door”, which is in the shade. They continue to leave the box on the front porch, directly in the afternoon sun. The porch is elevated with 5 steps, I’ve caught a few drivers on camera standing below and simply tossing the box onto the porch, splitting the box open and occasionally damaging the contents. App issue. I use this app on my iPad, and read cooking instructions from the iPad when cooking. The latest update stops the app screen from auto rotating. The ingredients screen never rotated, portrait only, which I’m fine with, but the screen would rotate when you hit the start cooking button so I could rotate the screen to horizontal and lean it against the wall behind my cutting board. Now it stays in portrait, which means if I try to lean it against the wall or set it upright it’s sitting on the charging cable coming out of the iPad. Now I have to sit it flat on the counter so I don’t damage the charging cable and it’s taking up space needed for cooking. Could you please update the app and bring back auto rotate. It continually times out, spends a lot of time loading, and can be difficult to navigate. Simple tasks take Longer than they should because of the apps issues. I’m hoping the recipes and meals are better than the app experiences so far, as the ordering experience hasn’t made a good first impression. ### 1/5 — Trash *2026-01-11, version 3.55.1* Only do this if you are sure and have money to burn. They will immediately charge you and send you an order you did not want. Do NOT recommend. ### 2/5 — Went downhill so fast *2025-10-08, version 3.52.4* I’ve always had shipping problems, but that’s generally a FedEx thing. However, they forgot to ship my box and I didn’t get a tracking number until an hour after I was supposed to get my box. By the time the box got to me, two days late, it was warm and the ice had melted. I requested assistance to see if they felt it was safe to eat. No reply. So they don’t even take food safety seriously. It speaks volumes when you need to go back an entire year to find a positive review ### 2/5 — Rip off *2025-10-02, version 3.52.4* They did not let me choose a meal just made me pay for 2 meals k would never eat and I’m allergic to one of them. Absolutely ridiculous. STOP THE ROTATION NEED! ### 1/5 — BUY IF YOU WANT A MESS, INJURIES, AND THEFT! *2025-05-28, version 3.49.4* I received a box from Dinnerly roughly a month ago, the food looked yummy but the ice pack inside was exploded!! When I opened the box i saw EVERY piece of food was ruined. The sludge also covered my entire kitchen floor and burned my hands and toes from the cold. I’ve put in multiple customer care requests (with pictures!) and haven’t been contacted yet! and this was at-least a month ago!! I usually don’t leave negative reviews but I spent around $80 to deal with a huge mess and suffer a minor injury. I work hard for my money and it’s ridiculous to have it wasted. Huge waste of time, money, and energy. PLEASE refund me this is ridiculous!! And btw I had to go hungry that week because I spent all my money on this ridiculous box. PLEASE give me a refund!!!!! ### 2/5 — Used to be excellent, not so much now *2025-05-27, version 3.49.4* Having consistent delivery issues where boxes are left in public lobby where they can be stolen instead of delivering to my apartment door. Also getting low quality, half rotten vegetables. They always reimburse you but it leaves you stuck with making last minute runs to grocery store. The whole point of subscribing to a meal kit service is to have the grocery shopping done for you. Started small missing item here and there then a damaged package. Now a whole box just didn’t get delivered and they can’t do anything until a manager can talk to me and that could be in up to 24 hours. This is my food. Not just a shopping item. The only problem used to be bad delivery. Dinner fixed that problem only to have a different one: low quality, half rotten vegetables. But was missing 3/4 of what was supposed to be in there. One entire recipe was missing and the other two were incomplete. Customer service was prompt and issued me a refund for the cost of the box. Had to throw the whole box out. Highly disappointed, only good thing about them is they gave me a refund. Cancelled my subscription after my first and only box, stay away they’re cheap for a reason. ### 1/5 — Worst App to contact support *2024-11-21, version 3.44.0* I signed up and found via referral to find I couldn’t change my free box. 1st meal had 46g carbs in it-I’m a type1 diabetic and on keto. 2nd meal-Basa!yuk! I tried to change but couldn’t-I cancelled my subscription Tuesday lunchtime because it doesn’t fit my meal choices-They debited my account Wednesday. NOT OKAY DINNERLY. Your customer service is disgusting and it’s impossible to contact you direct.Please contact me for my refund immediately. It looks like normal food, but idk what this is. The food tastes like plastic, and is completely inedible in texture. Literally couldn’t cut or chew any of the meats no matter how they were cooked. My mom and I ended up throwing each meal away after chewing endlessly and spitting it out. Then their customer service told me I couldn’t get any money back, despite all the meals being inedible. Beyond upset and never again will I order their food. ### 1/5 — Super great *2024-10-30, version 3.43.1* Love the food. It’s amazing. I went from zero cooking to six nights a week. I’ve been able to go mostly vegetarian for dinner (which was a goal) because they offer the best options for both vegetarian and vegan meals. Instructions are good. Food quality is great. And communication from them if there ever is ever a substitute or problem is great. If it’s not a fixable problem issuing a credit was easy and I actually spent more on a box because I basically got it for free so added like 80 more dollars of food. But their choice of a shipping partner is a huge letdown. In my area it’s FedEx. And FedEx messed up a months worth in a row of deliveries. FedEx didn’t care about anything. I’ve now missed another delivery and it’s just annoying at this point. FedEx will make me decide to cancel before anything else about their service would. Dinnerly sorta didn’t care too deeply about the amount of times it has happened. Felt more like a routine problem to them it seemed. Unfortunately Dinnerly has been on a downward trend for awhile in terms of on-time delivery and supplying the correct ingredients. I’ve since cancelled my subscription ### 1/5 — No good for diabetics. *2026-06-09, version 3.58.1* My family has happily used this app for years now. But now it’s no good to good for us. Because my Son and my Wife are type 1 diabetic it was very useful to have the carbohydrates (per 100g) displayed in the nutritional information. This way regardless of the portion size we could easily calculate their required insulin by simply weighing their portion. Now the information provided had emitted the carbohydrates per 100g amount, it’s much more complicated to work out insulin doses. Since this is an everyday part of our life’s, that’s enough motivation for us to look for another supplier. Is there any chance you can add this information back into the app? Price increases on basic meals, lack of variety amongst anything that wasn’t an extra cost. They have a platform to rate the delivery - no matter how many times you say a product is missing or wasn’t delivered properly they never contact you about that feedback. Now they’re hiding all the prices outside of their marketplace. So you don’t realise you’ve added a meal that cost extra per serving until you get to the cart. No way to filter these meals in and out or sort by pricing. They’re counting on customers to not look or to not be bothered to go back and pick something else. Poor form, does not pass the pub test. ### 1/5 — Worst meal subscription *2026-03-08, version 3.57.0* Worst subscription box ever. Packaged raw meat on top of produce and meat leaked all over. Tried emailing twice with no response. ### 1/5 — Reimbursed $10 for a $160 missing Dinnerly box *2026-01-21, version 3.55.2* My box didn’t arrive so I emailed Dinnerly support to let them know. Gave all the details. Wrong house, wrong photos of my house. Lack of Dinnerly box. They responded 2 days later with a “so sorry that happened, here’s $10 as compensation” Meanwhile I had to spend more money on groceries hoping to receive my money back, and now nothing. It’s been 4 days since my delivery has been delivered and Dinnerly support is doing nothing. ### 1/5 — They send the cheapest food by default *2026-01-15, version 3.55.2* If you don’t select what meals you want every week they will send the cheapest meals they can to you. The app knows what you enjoy already when you go to pick your meals but that isn’t factored into what they send by default at ALL. The food sent is based off of the 7 very general preferences and meat selection only. Not worth $75! It was originally $55 when I signed up. It made a second account without my knowledge and charged me twice for two separate boxes. One I never even authorized. And when I reached out to customer service they proceeded to yell at me and then refused to admit their wrongdoing and refused me a refund. Will NEVER use them ever again. I tried one other service for a few months but came back to Dinnerly pretty quickly. I love the meals and the ability to filter by various types. The app used to be one of my favorite apps and one of the reasons Dinnerly was better than the other service. But something changed in the last week in the app. The app now only works in portrait mode. I use a keyboard case for my iPad and prefer apps in landscape mode. It would be nice to have some alternative cooking options on recipes. Maybe a toggle switch so you can choose on different recipes. Depending on the recipe it could be choosing between the stove or air, oven or grill, oven or air. The ingredients shouldn’t be any different so it would just take a little reworking of recipes and some programming. After having over meal services while back home while parents were paying I can say the taste is absolutely on par with great instructions that make cooking easy.
