## What is Direhollow?

Direhollow is a faithful mobile remake of Rogue — the 1980 game that started the roguelike. The same Dungeons of Doom. The same A–Z bestiary. The same unforgiving permadeath. Rebuilt for a phone: touch-first, free, and true to the original.

We modernize the shell, not the rules.

THE REAL GAME, ON A PHONE
The same seeded dungeons, the same monsters, the same merciless math — with a 3×3 move pad, pinch-to-zoom, a tap-driven pack, and saves that actually survive a phone call.

WHAT YOU'LL FIND DOWN THERE
• True permadeath — one life, one seed. The save is deleted on death. No reloading an earlier turn.
• The full bestiary — the complete A–Z roster, depth-ordered exactly as the original intended.
• Loot & identify — per-run appearances for scrolls, potions, rings, and wands. Learn them, or risk them.
• The Amulet of Yendor — descend to claim it, then climb back to the surface alive. Few will.
• True ASCII — the authentic 1980 glyph grid. No tiles, no remix. The terminal classic, on a phone.

FREE, AND FAIR
No pay-to-win. No energy timers. No reloads sold back to you. The whole game is earned — exactly as it was in 1980.

### 5/5 — Doth your thumbs thirst for adventure and fun?!

*2026-07-25*

Rogue fans and people who enjoy fun alike, give me your ear. I will tell you of a game in which boys are turned to men, where danger lurks in every room. Give me your other ear and I will whisper in it of the untold treasures, spells, potions, and enchanted weapons.

This mobile version of a faithfully remastered Rogue like game, will have you screaming things aloud like, “Curse you Emu, I am blind and I know not from where you attack thee.”

Or “Come back here leprechaun and fight me like a man…” who then felt his coin purse be empty and said as you fall on your knees and lift your hands skyward, “Curse you leprechaun, I call you undignified!”

Each room is another piece of the puzzle. Each floor is another level of dungeons to be cleared.

Only question now is, “Are you brave enough to take this quest? Oh, and did I mention there are unicorns, and trolls? Now I’m not saying that trolls are riding unicorns, but I guess I’m not saying that they aren’t either. Feast on that conundrum as you download this game.

Seriously lots of fun, and it’s progressive, like a fun continuous Dungeons and Dragons themed tamagotchi. However, once you leave the app, you don’t have to feed it, only while it’s open. Huzahhh! Begin your quest, begin your destiny.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.0.3 — 2026-08-28

Fixes a bug that could wipe an in-progress run. If the game was closed at the wrong moment the save file could be left empty, and tapping Continue would start a brand-new run instead of resuming. Saves are now written all at once, so what is on disk is always a complete run.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-08-09

The loading screen now shows the Direhollow medallion right from the first frame, instead of flashing a blank square on startup.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-08-01

Direhollow now has its own loading screen - the game's emblem and a gold progress ring, in place of the engine's default splash.

### 1.0 — 2026-07-24

No release notes.
