### 4/5 — Needs more

*2024-07-07*

A fantastic game, the only drawback is that it lacked other locations. I would love to see what other places are added in the future, if this is the plan.

### 4/5 — Great game

*2024-02-28*

I like it but its kind of unsettling—for me

### 4/5 — Four stars because…..

*2024-02-25*

I would’ve gave the game a five star review if.. the camera movement was smoother but atleast it doesn’t have anything else bad about it

### 3/5 — Fun but short

*2023-10-13*

I thought it would be more and have more story

### 3/5 — Pointless and baffling

*2023-02-19*

The game has no logic. It doesn’t follow real-world logic nor does it create its own. With different elements being spread out across the locations, you find yourself either laboriously wandering around (very slowly, because you can’t run) looking for the next clue or just hitting the “hint” button all the time. The puzzle solutions are inexplicable, and the use of the picture viewer to advance the game makes absolutely no sense.

The atmosphere is odd. I think it’s trying to be threatening, but it doesn’t succeed. A bit eerie, but not sufficiently to make sense.

The ending suggests there will be updates with more content, but I won’t be bothering to wait for any.

### 4/5 — This game was a ton of fun! Until…

*2022-06-02, version 1.1.2*

I enjoyed this game a lot, and to all those who say there’s no mission, I’m pretty sure that’s the point. It’s a hard puzzle game that you’re supposed to figure out for yourself. The description of the game does say you have to restore the colors so that’s a mission I guess. Anyways, I was having a lot of fun until I got to the evil moon. So I was standing on the glowing triangle (I had already put the colors in the tower) and I took out the viewer and viewed the cameras. But then the game was stuck. The hints didn’t say anything past maybe an inventory item would work here? But I had already did that. If anyone has tips or knows if it’s just a glitch please tell me. If it is a glitch, it isn’t the first from shifty eye games.

### 4/5 — Super short but difficult and intriguing puzzle game

*2021-11-28, version 1.1.2*

The other reviews are correct in that the pace of movement and the mechanics are a little clunky. But if you enjoy Myst you would most likely enjoy it. Finished this game in a few hours and that’s with me doing other things in between. Hints are available if you get stuck, but over all, pretty clear on exploration and what to do. The only reason I downgraded this is the end. They slide an envelope and you think you’re getting another chapter but it just ends. I could have done without that. Don’t tease a second chapter if you’re never going to release it.

### 3/5 — Beware the main menu

*2021-08-25*

If you select Restart Game it warns you your game progress will be lost if you proceed.

If you select Return to Main Menu, there is no warning and you go to the main menu with no possibility of resuming your game, only starting a new game. Horrible user experience!!

### 5/5 — Myst Lite

*2021-08-01, version 1.1.2*

A lovely little puzzler after the style of Myst, where you just kind of wander around and interact with stuff until things happen. Virtually no tutorial at all, but there are hints in case you get stuck. I’ve seen some reviewers saying this game is equally as difficult as Myst, personally I would rank this one as notably easier, but similar feel.

While it certainly isn’t obvious what to do next, there was never a point where I had absolutely no clue. Take note of items in the environment and investigate everything closely, and the game is fairly smooth, even intuitive at times. The scenery feels unsettling without being scary, the controls are easy and make sense, a well-made capsule puzzle.

My only gripe is that the actual puzzle is fairly short. I finished this game in about three hours of total play time. I wish there was more detective work to do! An expansion perhaps? A Discolored 2?

### 3/5 — Is it over?

*2021-07-18, version 1.1.2*

Well, everything you read in the other reviews is true. The puzzles are very good, the concept is great, the only story comes at the very end but I'll get to that.
The mechanics are very annoying, selecting and using things from inventory are particularly bad and cumbersome. Several things I missed were because I tried but I didn't do it exactly right. I'm talking about the phone but there were other points that should have been easier to find. Fortunately the hints were just enough to keep me going.
But what's up with the ending? I listened to the whole "vase" story and I get some more pictures and bang, credits start rolling.
If that's the end I'm very confused.

### 5/5 — Super good!

*2021-07-09*

I really enjoyed this game and it’s puzzles! I did need hints at times but other then that, I really super liked it! But can you please make another one with the new world that was at the end of the game? Thank you so much!😁☺️

### 5/5 — Would rate it ten stars

*2021-07-08, version 1.1.2*

Hello, I like this game because it is a hard-core puzzle solving game. I also like the fact that is very colorful if you restore all the pieces! I enjoy playing this game over and over again. I haven’t found any glitches yet. One complaint is that it is very hard and it’s probably shouldn’t be nine and up should be probably like 12 and up. Also the game might be scary for some little kids, because there is a huge eye in the sky to replace the moon, which might be a little creepy! Otherwise it’s a great game! 👍🏻👍🏻

### 5/5 — Absolutely amazing

*2021-06-19*

This game is completely and utterly amazing. From the visuals to the gameplay, it's great! I'm sad about how long it is and would love a sequel or more content being added because it was genuinely a game that I had sooo much fun playing. The atmosphere was slightly creepy at points and brought this unsettling feeling and the mystery of what will happen when you do something just made discoloured a spectacular game and I highly recommend it. I did however have to tinker with the camera sensitivity but that's not a complaint just a warning for anyone looking to play. Anyways, I will pay for a sequel or added content because Discoloured is an absolutely stunning game 💗

### 5/5 — Great game....

*2021-06-16, version 1.1.2*

Need more like this! I admit I needed to use the hints more than I would have liked to but once I got the hang of the game I needed the hints rarely.

I did Google the two hidden achievements as I just couldn't find them no matter how many times I ran thru the game. They were well hidden! The one at the end of the game I had an idea what was needed but could not find the piece needed. The one towards the beginning of the game I had no clue about.

Kudos to the developers and testers.

### 4/5 — Fun game with wonky controls

*2021-06-08, version 1.1.2*

I’m a huge fan of puzzle games and this definitely scratched that itch for me. Very clever with interesting mechanics and whenever I got stuck the hints were able to point me in the right direction. Visually this game is very nice, and the music is amazing (if unsettling, but it’s unsettling in a good way). However, I have to take a star off for the controls. They weren’t so bad as to make the game unplayable, but they were definitely clunky and hard to use, and didn’t really get better the more I played. If I had a controller I probably would have found it much easier, but using a touchscreen makes things very difficult. I also could have done with a slightly faster walking speed as the game requires you to backtrack so often, but that’s a more minor nitpick. Overall I had a good time and found it to be worth my while.

### 5/5 — LOVE IT

*2021-06-06*

Not sure why everyone is complaining about the controls. Not sure how else you can look around on an iPad with no toggle stick. Just take a few minutes to get used to it. Very Nancy Drew vibes, super fun and mysterious. Worth the download for sure! Now make another one!!

### 4/5 — Fun

*2021-04-19*

As someone who enjoys puzzler games, I have to say I really liked this. Challenging, and very good at getting the brain working.

The controls on this are awful. I tried using touch, and then connected my dual sense controller and found that to be better, but still slow. Would highly recommend using a controller and changing the sensitivity up in the settings before playing.

Would love to see a sequel to this game. So strangely out of the blue, like an episode of the twilight zone.

### 5/5 — Similar to Room Escape Games

*2021-03-29, version 1.1.2*

If you enjoy Room Escape type puzzle games, then I’m sure you will like Discolored! Thought-provoking puzzles that use color to draw your attention to new objects. Things you had previously not noticed in the background, suddenly pop out and being actionable. It was exciting to go back through previously explored areas to see what was new. It was short and sweet experience that can be completed in a couple hours depending on your proficiency with puzzles. The only complaint I have is the touch controls for clicking on objects. It took me a while to realize that you have to click directly on the triangle that appears to interact with things. I wish this was explained more explicitly to the player in the tutorial section.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Controls are very annoying

*2024-04-14*

I wish I could review the story, but instead I am here to say that the controls are clunky to the point that this game is unplayable. After ten minutes of stumbling around a room like my alcoholic uncle after a night out with his mates I gave up.

### 1/5 — Cool concept but…

*2021-08-28, version 1.1.2*

The game is a very neat concept, trying to restore all the colors of the world around you. However, the game feels very all over the place and sporadic. None of the clues connect with each other and leave you running back and forth, up and down, through the map for the entire game.

A lot of the clues are also either way too vague or just a bit too specific. It makes the game really easy or really difficult at times, and a walkthrough is needed for a few steps. By that point, why bother playing it when you’re just going to have to watch a walkthrough to help and could just watch someone else play it instead.

Furthermore, the games mechanics are not all too great. It’s very finicky when trying to tap certain things. I can’t tell you how many times I tried to move the camera view when I was fiddling with the tv and it ended up bringing me back down to the tv instead. Having to wait for the animation scene of kneeling down the the tv to click off of it and then waiting for the animation of standing up, only to have the game rinse and repeat is incredibly frustrating.

And finally, the game seems incomplete. The ending almost makes you think you’re starting another level- that would probably be just as frustrating to navigate as the last one anyways- it just abruptly ends.

All in all, the concept it cool but everything about this game leaves much to be desired.

### 1/5 — Can’t flip screen?

*2021-03-01*

Umm, unless I’m mistaken you can’t flip the orientation of the screen. Charger port always needs to be on the right, I play often with my phone plugged in on my left so this puts tension on the charge cord. In 2021 with apps being a thing for this long now I think it’s an absolute joke that the screen can’t flip and is a deal breaker. I deleted the game immediately when I found no setting for this.

### 1/5 — Controls are problematic

*2021-02-10*

And are not usable on an iPad. I recommend saving few minutes of your time by not downloading

### 1/5 — Unintuitive Controls and Puzzle Logic

*2020-05-21, version 1.1.1*

+ Moody atmosphere and music
- Unintuitive controls
- Unintuitive puzzles, sometimes too obtuse
- Short
- Poor communication of changes to the environment
- Story has mystery, but fails to earn any investment

Discolored is one of the worst Apple Arcade titles I have ever played. For a game that seemed to have a ton of testing done, this game wants to be like older puzzle adventure games and do nothing to streamline the process.

Opening and closing my inventory several times over the course of the game is nonsense to complete the puzzles in the way the developer intended. The premise seems strong at first, but there isn’t a way to get invested in it because it ends so soon. I had to use a walkthrough even with the hint system to complete certain puzzles. For example, how is one to know the blue book would have a red key inside it without a red outline, when earlier, a blue outline of an object in a drawer could be seen without any colored prisms inserted?

It’s game logic that is so obtuse and frustrating that it’s not fun when the game doesn’t stick to its own set of rules. It’s one thing when a solution makes sense. It’s another when a solution is completely different from what the game showcases you earlier.

1/5

### 1/5 — What the hell is this?

*2020-04-14, version 1.1.0*

As a first time subscriber this was the first game I downloaded and it was not a good start for me. I downloaded it because the trailer clip looked intriguing but after playing it I realized its not at all what I thought. I don’t know what is going on. Missions are virtually unclear and nonexistent. I don’t know what my purpose or goal is. Even after reading the convoluted description of the game that made no sense I still had no idea what the game was about. Way too hippy-dippy for me and I’m pretty out there myself. This I just don’t understand. The controls are awful. I felt like I had to awkwardly push my fingers along the screen to make things move and it kept getting stuck. Mechanics don’t feel natural at all. Very wonky. Made it unplayable for me ultimately but the story and the purpose of the game itself just isn’t my cup of tea. I don’t know what is going on in this game or why I care about the goal. Making prisms in an empty town I mean.. who made that up? How bored and out of ideas were you? It’s for a certain type of gamer, just not me.

### 1/5 — Unintuitive

*2020-02-24*

The most frustrating and unintuitive controls and mechanics I’ve ever come across. I lasted 5 minutes before deleting. Apple seems to be letting a lot of half-developed games into Arcade to fill it out.

### 1/5 — Inventory fetch-quest game lacking substance beyond pretentiousness

*2020-01-01*

This game is nothing more a long inventory fetch-quest from start to finish. Puzzles? What puzzles? There is very little logic to the objects and where to get them from, so you’re not actually thinking, solving, or “working out” the puzzles. You’re just exploring, tapping, retrieving, returning. It’s billed as having intricate and inventive puzzle-solving, but I don’t see that level of cleverness.

The camera is placed somewhat too high up so you’re almost always looking downwards, which is nauseating. Even at the highest FOV for me.

Controls for item usage and object interaction are unintuitive and clunky. To use an item you have to open inventory, tap the item, close the inventory, adjust your camera so your crosshair is positioned on the location, then tap on the location to use item. Better game mechanics lets you skip at least 2 of those steps. Interacting with scenes forces you to tap in the middle of your phone screen instead of just tapping in place on the bottom right of your phone screen where your thumb already is after moving the camera around. You also can’t just tap directly on the object without first moving your crosshair onto it. It’s not well made for mobile.

This game is also on Steam for PC, so maybe the controls and FOV are better there.

### 1/5 — Feels Like a Demo

*2019-11-15, version 1.0.1*

I really enjoyed this game!

The atmosphere and overall aesthetic were superb, and the puzzles were creative enough to keep me interested and hungry for more. Only.... there wasn’t any more.

I found myself drawn in by the mysterious world Discolored presented, fully invested to explore what looked like at least three or four more regions suffering from the same de-saturated fate. I was fascinated by the lore Shifty-Eyed games had spun, but sadly as I geared up to leap into the next stage, I was met with the sudden and unexpected credit-roll!

While I have no problem with developers releasing demos for their works in hopes of attracting an audience, Discolored leaves a sour taste in my mouth regarding the whole Apple Arcade platform.

Apple Arcade tours itself as a flat rate service that does away with the dangers of a less curated App Store drought with demos and incomplete games only looking to rope in potential customers.

So far I have to say I’ve been really disappointed with the mostly half-baked experiences I’ve had here so far. What’s most frustrating of all is just how GOOD these little snippets of games have been!

So far with no clear indication of if Discolored or many of the other games I’ve tried on Apple Arcade will ever receive content updates, I’m left to assume that developers are more than happy to take whatever contract payment Apple offers for their incomplete works and go about their merry ways.

It’s terribly disappointing.

### 1/5 — Pointless

*2019-11-11*

It seems there's no narrative. You're sent to restore colour to a town, but halfway through the game all the colour comes back. And then you have to explode an eye. Once you've done that, it's not over. There is a little bit more after that. Why? I'll never know.

The controls were really bad, and sometimes I'd solves a puzzle but couldn't get the cursor to work, so I wasted a lot of time trying other solutions before finally going back to the right one and suddenly the cursor was working again.

Also, frustrating when going up and down stairs that you have to watch the animation every time.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2024-09-11*

Now that the game has incorporated the point and click ability it is brilliant, the surroundings and atmosphere are exactly what I’ve been looking for in a game, I feel like I’ve just stepped into an episode of Twin Peaks …… a dream come true for me! When I first got the game moving around was so cumbersome that I gave up but I get to play it properly now, thank you dear devs. The idea of the lonely highway and deserted diner is genius. Also stepping into a painting was such a cool idea. So many creative elements to this game. Sorely underrated adventure game, don’t hesitate to give it a try.

### 5/5 — 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺They should add levels because I missed this game.🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺

*2024-06-03*

This game is the best. I just think they should like stuff like levels because like I love this game or they should add like different games each year. I love this game. It’s the best I already completed and it hard and I love hard games. I love them so much, my favorite part is like evil moon comes like the eyeball as a moon. I love that part and I hate that they don’t have levels. I thought there was gonna be levels but there’s not gonna be any levels and I am just about that. I think we should add some levels, thank you so much for listening, but you should add more levels where this game is the best. I hope you guys could make more games of this Discolored.

### 5/5 — amazing

*2023-12-03*

is loved playing this so much. the controls were a bit clunky but adjusting the settings fix that. i really wish there was more!!!!

### 5/5 — 5 stars

*2023-08-26*

Recommande

### 5/5 — it was a fun short game!

*2023-08-19*

I don’t know what people mean by the controls being weird, because they were like every other mobile game to me.

But it was really enjoyable! I hope this gets added to in the future, I was looking forward to going into other paintings and exploring!

### 5/5 — Fun, but short

*2023-04-16*

I had a great time playing this game.

One of my all-time favorite video/computer games is Myst, and this very much follows that formula (especially the new Unreal 5 remaster). The graphics are good - simple, but charming and full of character. The controls are relatively intuitive.

It doesn’t take long to get the ball rolling. The puzzles require just enough brain power. I appreciate that there’s almost no annoying back-and-forth, whereby one has to do/undo things to unlock other things. There’s a natural progression of one puzzle leading to the next.

The only real gripe I have is that it’s a short game. Like, VERY short. I was in and out in about two hours, maybe less. I get that this was the intention, but still.

Maybe the developers could build other worlds, and link to them from a central point - like Myst. THEN, they’d have a wicked game on their hands!

### 5/5 — I really liked the game

*2022-11-07*

When I went camping I played the game the whole time while I was there and it was interesting game and fun

### 5/5 — Extraordinarily Fantastic

*2022-06-24*

It is absolutely amazing. I loved playing it and as I got further into the game, I just became more and more immersed. The plot is amazing and left me wanting more, especially with the cliffhanger at the end. I especially loved the old show that played on the radio at the end. I listened to all of it and it was very interesting! I hope that there will be a second part to this! All in all though, I cannot recommend this game enough! I just want the developer(s) to know that you have created something that is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for creating this game!😊

### 5/5 — Amazing! 👌

*2022-04-28, version 1.1.2*

This game is one of my favorites of all the games I’ve ever played!
It is very hard and I had to look up a walkthrough to finish but it’s an amazing game. Once I finished the first time I deleted it. But I then wanted to play it again about a year later then I deleted it again. I just got it back and got the green but it’s a great game. Also I love all the details you put into this and how I basically was transferred into the painting. Overall this game is awesome! And I recommend it to anyone who likes a good puzzle, and loves a nice mystery!

### 5/5 — An under rated game

*2021-09-17, version 1.1.2*

I absolutely love this game. It reminds me of an escape room. I love how clever it is. I definitely over thought the game much of the time but I really loved the challenge. So well thought out. I loved the transition of colors & the music, which starts off lovely, but becomes rather creepy. Despite knowing how to beat the game now, I repeatedly play this game. I find it relaxing & satisfying to play. I really wish the next photo opened a new puzzle. I truly wish I could find other games of the same design. I wish you’d make more games.
On the improvement side of things: I have run into minor glitches in which I couldn’t get the game to move forward for a short time, but I think this has happened maybe twice out of many times playing. It only happens when you need to line up your viewfinder to unlock that section of the puzzle.
