DiscoverMe is an app for questioning, trans, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming people to try on different names and pronouns that better suit their identity. DiscoverMe lets users input names and pronouns and see them in context, to get a sense of how well they like them. Users can favorite and discard names as they go along to help figure out which work best for them. A featured winner of the 2022 Swift Student Challenge! How to Use It: DiscoverMe is designed to be fast and simple to use. When you first open the app, you'll be prompted to add a name and set of pronouns. From there, you can open the 'test names' page and swipe through flash cards of the name and pronouns inserted in some text snippets. Swiping left indicates that you don't like the name in that sample, and swiping right indicates that you do. The app uses an algorithm to optimize what samples you're shown based on the one's you've already swiped on in order to give you samples which are unique from those you've already looked at. You can also change the context of the samples you're shown in order to focus on academic, professional, or casual settings. DiscoverMe shows you how frequently you swipe right on a chosen name, and you can star the name if you especially like it. Love that you can add many many names. Will definitely continue to use this app. :D ### 4/5 — Lovely little platform for experimentation *2022-12-05* This is a great idea, and is really helpful to people questioning. It’s especially impressive considering the dev is in university and to boot the app is completely free. Definitely worth having installed just for a bit of self-exploration when you have a moment. As for drawbacks to consider, the app falters a bit when asked to deal with they/them or mixed pronouns. Just simple grammatical errors for the former, but it seems that the UI doesn’t allow for mixed sets like she/they or they/him. When you try to use something like that the UI just snaps it to one or the other. Maybe that can be something for future support? ### 4/5 — Love this idea! *2022-11-18* The app is a great idea and easy to use. It just requires a little creativity on the user’s part to imagine themselves as the subject of the sentences. There’s a good variety of sentences and some choices as to what kinds of sentences you want to hear. I’ve added lots of names, so it seems like there’s a reasonable number you can add if you haven’t narrowed things down yet! Of course, there is room for improvement. Specifically, I’d love to see an option to hear all the names at once instead of clicking on them one at a time. Also, pronouns and names could be separate. There are people who have their names or pronouns set and just want to try one or the other! Overall, it’s a great app with great intentions and I’m so happy someone thought of it. ### 3/5 — some bugs?
