I get a notification of the results after my drive, but all point still stay at zero - even my no drive days. A call Centre person said I had to switch phone to airplane mode, then switch phone off, then switch phone on, then switch airplane mode off, then open the app again - and then it should work.. I’m not holding my breath... it seems there are problems with this app and iPhone users.. ### 4/5 — Drives not recording *2020-12-09* Sometimes a drive is not recorded in spite of the phone present and all functions turned on and still the reason no phone present ### 1/5 — Inertia problem *2020-08-14, version 5.0.6* The frequent updates on Discovery Insure 2.0 tells you they’ve got it wrong. It is far too sensitive, I’m getting penalized for cornering where I wasn’t previously. I either drive like a Grandma or take a different route, I have 4 tight corners to negotiate before getting to a main road. I do hope that sort it out, there are other, equally, beneficial car insurers!! ### 2/5 — A step backwards *2020-08-06, version 5.0.4* Horrible! Not nearly as useful as the older version- heavy on battery and doesn’t record trips for ages if at all? Rethink please ### 1/5 — False reading on steep inclines *2020-02-26, version 4.2.6* I have just installed the app and I am getting reports of excess braking and acceleration when driving slow and carefully. I live in an area with very steep hills and this causes the accelerometer to give false readings. Please fix this. ### 1/5 — Discovery should do better *2019-11-03* This app kills your battery life. Discovery needs to change this app so we can benefit on discovery drive. Massive let down. ### 1/5 — Back to the drawing board *2019-10-23, version 4.2.1* This is the worst update by far from Discovery. This update drains my battery within an hour and refuses to connect to the sensor unless the location is on all the time. The trip notifications do not come through unless I open the app. The previous version was way better. You missed the mark here, go back to the drawing board and re-evaluate your app. ### 2/5 — Eats battery *2019-04-20* By far the biggest consumer of my phone’s battery. I don’t even use my phone and I’m losing major percentages of battery. Even when I’m not driving ### 2/5 — Are you supposed to drive like a robot? *2019-04-09* Completely unrealistic parameters to abide by. Tried this out and drove extremely well, only to be scored badly for a bunch of things that didn’t even happen? If you want people to trust and use this app, there’s ALOT more work to be done. DELETE ### 2/5 — Inconsistant *2018-11-13* This app makes up speed limits and then scores you for speeding. I travel on the R59 daily speed limit is 120. I get a speeding demerit for travelling at 80 in a 60 zone? On three different occasions. Swartkoppies road has speed limit of 80 and again speeding 70 in a 60 zone. Additionally get penalised for harsh acceleration when travelling at 23km p/h Is this an attempt to ensure you dont get top score as it appears to become more of a problem the further you drive ### 1/5 — Inaccurate *2018-10-12* Get harsh breaking and corning one star when I know it is untrue. Cellphone usage when I use my GPS ### 1/5 — 5 steps backwards *2018-08-13* Latest update still does not address the issue of battery drain with location services being always on! Also, in your drive list, there is no more option to filter only your vehicle. I have to go and search for mine? The first is that it can drain your battery if you leave it active. The second problem is that nanny is seriously over strict and inaccurate on driving behavior. I patrol for the neighborhood watch and at 30km/h it keeps penalizing me for breaking and cornering. Don’t even start me on cell phone use. The old version was way better ### 1/5 — Drains battery *2025-01-10, version 7.1.2* This update is killing my phone battery. This issue was fixed with a previous version, but has been re-introduced with the latest 7.1.2 update. Battery usage was 47% for background usage and I didn’t drive anywhere in that time. Can’t find anything. Dysfunctional. You can’t even call the user interface, a user interface. Full of bugs. Shocking. Only reason I am giving a 1 star, is because I could not go to zero. You could make it track only when driving but instead insist on always on. Not happy with this breach of my constitutional right. ### 1/5 — Soul l-sucking, joy-killing app *2022-06-15* If you want an app that takes all the joy out of driving this is it. Defensive driving? Forget about it - if a child’s ball rolls out into the road ahead don’t brake, or swerve - the app doesn’t like defensive driving. No posted speed limits as in half the Eastern Cape? Well you’d better assume that the speed limit is 40 kmh the whole trip otherwise you’ll end up with zero points and feeling like an idiot. Leave your car idle for a few days? Don’t do it, the nerds who developed this app made the app assume you’ve disabled the sensor. Try to complain through the contact feature on the app? Nope, it will give you a constant “Internal Sever Error” message. DON’T DO IT! ### 1/5 — Vitality Drive Failure *2020-11-02, version 5.0.9* Since Vitality Drive was launched I have driven with more care and achieved Platinum level. BUT for the last two months the system has been broken and Discovery either can’t or won’t fix it. I achieve the maximum daily points for my Driver Profile but the points are not pulled in to the total and for some inexplicable reason, the total sits on 20/750 fir the entire month. Result - less than half the fuel reimbursement that I am entitled to, and a declining Driver Profile and points every month. However, there is another result- I am now looking for another insurer after 6 years with Discovery Insure. One does not have to have the Discovery Insurance but there are rewards if you do. It has definitely improved my awareness on the road and my husband and I are competing to see who can achieve the higher star rating. I had initial reservations because I was "penalised" when I was a passenger (and using a cell) and also when on a high speed train. I have now discovered that one can go to Settings/My Trips and then swipe the trip sideways to select either NOT A CAR or PASSENGER. I only gave a rating of 3 stars for the app on iTunes but I now give it 5 stars!!
