## What is Dispute?

Some arguments go in circles. You have both made the same point four times, you
both feel unheard, and neither of you can say what you are actually disagreeing
about any more.

Dispute is for that. One phone, two people, about fifteen minutes.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Say what the argument is, in one line, and put both your names in.

2. Each of you takes the phone and writes your side properly, on your own, with
the other person not reading over your shoulder.

3. The app turns both sides into one list of points, shuffled together, with no
names on it. You each go through the same list and tick what you agree with.
Because you cannot tell whose point is whose, you end up judging the point.

4. It shows you what you already agree on. In most arguments this is more than
either person expected.

5. Then it names the crux: the one question where, depending on the answer,
either of you would change your mind. Not a summary, not a compromise, and not a
verdict. One question, and something you could actually go and do to settle it.

6. At the end you get the whole thing written up, which you can keep or share.

WHAT IT WILL NOT DO

It never takes a side. It does not tell you who is right, it does not score the
argument, and it does not comment on your relationship. It has no opinion about
either of you and it is not supposed to.

WHAT IT COSTS

Nothing. There is no account, no sign-in, no subscription and no ads. You do not
need to make an account with anyone, and there is nothing to set up before you
start.

THE AI, AND WHAT LEAVES YOUR PHONE

The list of points and the crux are written by Mistral, and the first screen
asks whether you want that before anything happens. The AI is off until you say
yes.

Say yes and what you both type is sent away to be read by an AI model, run by
Mistral or by Cloudflare. It costs you nothing, and neither of them uses it to
train anything. The app tells you all of this on that same first screen, before
you type anything.

Say no and the app still works: you write your own points, you name the crux
together from a filled-in draft, and nothing leaves the phone. That is a complete
way to use it and it is how the app started. You can change your mind either way
in Settings.

The one argument you have open is stored in one file on your phone. Deleting it
in Settings deletes it. There is no cloud copy, no sync, and nothing on our end
with your name on it, because there is no account to put a name in.

## Frequently asked questions about Dispute

### How does Dispute help settle arguments?

Dispute guides users through privately writing their points, then anonymously shuffles and presents them for agreement. It aims to identify common ground and the single core question that, if answered, would resolve the conflict.

### Does Dispute use AI to decide who is right?

No, Dispute does not take sides or declare a winner. While it offers optional AI-powered analysis for point generation and crux identification, the user ultimately controls its use and the app's core functionality works offline without AI.

### Is Dispute free to use?

Yes, Dispute is completely free to use. It has no subscriptions, no ads, and no in-app purchases, making it accessible for anyone needing to resolve a disagreement.

### Can I use Dispute offline?

Yes, Dispute can be used entirely offline. If you choose not to use the AI features, all data remains on your phone, and you can still benefit from the structured argument resolution process.

### What happens to my data when I use Dispute?

When not using the AI features, all argument data is stored locally on your phone and is deleted when you delete the argument. If you opt for AI analysis, your typed points are sent to Mistral or Cloudflare for processing but are not used for training.

### How often is Dispute updated?

The latest version of Dispute is 1.2, which was last updated on September 18, 2026. Updates typically focus on improving functionality and ensuring a smooth user experience.

### What is the age rating for Dispute?

Dispute has an age rating of 4+. This indicates it is suitable for users of all ages, with no mature content or themes that would restrict access.

## Version history (last 2 releases)

### 1.2 — 2026-09-18

The AI is now Mistral, a French company, instead of Google's Gemini. What you
both write is no longer used to train anybody's model, which was not true before
and is the clearest thing this change buys you

The AI is also off until you say yes. The first screen asks, and choosing "Do it
by hand" means nothing leaves the phone at all.

Fewer dead ends when the model is busy. The app now waits and tries again on its
own instead of stopping, and if it still cannot get through it offers to finish
the argument by hand rather than leaving you stuck.

### 1.1 — 2026-09-04
