Also its not easy to navigate. Hard to find how to edit in my patterns (Ditto) and just basically a headache trying to accomplish things. I guess it may be easy for those who use it on a daily basis but if not its like a learning endeavor all over again. I would love to see it improved in time. Thank you for listening. ### 2/5 — Ok, would have kept the money *2024-01-01, version 1.2.0* I know you can bring your own patterns in beta form, but it is not very user friendly, you have to download or pay for a third party app to fix the pdf file so you can upload. Also, the ditto brand patterns don’t have a neckband on any of the patterns. You are expected to turn under the neckline and stitch down. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2023-11-18* I’d give this a 5 if I could but the app won’t connect my iPhone or iPad to the Ditto projector. Because of that this entire (expensive) sewing system is worthless to me. The app design itself is fine - easy to use and would be a joy to work with if only the connection could be established. Ditto actually sent me a replacement projector because the 1st one also failed. I’m fairly tech savvy and have tried to make the connection in various ways but no luck. WiFi sees the projector & the app accepts my WiFi password & all is linked via Bluetooth - everything goes well until the critical ‘connect’ step, which fails every time I try it. Either the projector is worthless or Ditto Patterns and iOS don’t play well together. ### 1/5 — Can’t get it online *2023-10-02, version 1.1.0* This is my second projector, doesn’t work. It sees the projector, then when I enter the password, it can’t find projector. ### 1/5 — Ditto App/ Projector does meet expectation *2023-09-16, version 1.1.0* I purchased the Ditto projector 3 weeks ago and the first projector would not connect to WIFI and was required to use the warranty for replacement. Received the replacement Ditto Projector and it worked for 2 days and now the App will not connect to the Ditto Projector. This was an expensive mistake. The app only works with a mobile device this was disclosed prior to purchase. You can use a laptop to login to your account, browse patterns and setup your user profile and customize sizing for patterns however you can not access the patterns or projector. While using a mobile device the work space is too small and requires splicing the pattern to cut in more than one segment. The actual projector is a piece of junk and fails all the time. Bottom line: You pay for the projector and then you must pay over retail price for the patterns or pay for the yearly subscription and you will not own the pattern, it only downloads to the ditto site not your device. Most of the patterns will not even send to the projector therefore a limitation to what you can actually make. This product is poorly made and not worth the money. Only great in theory however there are too many bugs to be worked out. And there is a no return policy. ### 2/5 — Great start, needs work *2023-05-09, version 1.0.2* It was easy to set up, and is fairly easy to use. My biggest complaint is that I can’t import PDF patterns I already own into the software. All of the patterns available through the Ditto app are available elsewhere as well, so honestly, don’t spend $700 on the Ditto projector when you could spend less than half that price and get a projector that isn’t so limited. The breast ruching location is way higher than needed for anyone older than a teen. The instructions for completing neckline were something that would work for a curved neckline, however the pattern had a v neckline. It should have had an entirely different way to finish the neckline. ### 1/5 — BYOP broken *2025-03-07, version 1.5.1* I got my device yesterday and have tried every troubleshooting step I can think of. I cannot get the yellow “uploads” box to appear on my app on any device I own. I have tried it on my Apple devices and my husband’s Android devices. I really want to make my baby cloth diapers. There are no patterns for this on the pattern store, but even if there were, the Ditto is advertised as being able to use your own patterns. It is very frustrating to be so excited to make something for your baby and not be able to because something was advertised falsely. Please fix this. ### 1/5 — Bad product *2024-12-14, version 1.5.1* Brought my ditto projector almost a week ago and boy am I sorry I didn’t find a better product other than this one. At first everything seemed to go smoothly then I got to the part where you connect to the WiFi well that’s when everything just went down hill. I have tried everything to get this piece of junk to connect and to no avail. Why do I call it junk well that’s because you can’t use it until it is actually connected to the internet. You write in to support and never get a response back from them. There is no phone number to call into either. Unfortunately now I have to bring it back to Joann and pay an additional 25.00 for restocking it. The app itself is not user friendly. For the cost I expected so much more. A year or so ago I had endless trouble connecting to WiFi. Even a replacement projector didn’t work. I finally set Ditto aside for months. Don’t know if bugs were fixed or my new mesh system made the difference but I now connect on the first try! I was always delighted with how Ditto patterns fit. Now I’m delighted with consistent hardware performance. I want to make the Hayden view C skirt but when I try to pull it up from my library I’m getting an internal server error and to contact customer support (which I did email them prior to writing this review). It seems when the api could not find the instructions / sketch file based on the error code I received. I really hope Ditto makes improvements so this does not continue to happen. It also would be nice to get all of the non-Ditto patterns included in the monthly or yearly subscription. Ditto users should have access to all of the patterns if we are paying a monthly fee. This app & subscription can be so much better. Please keep making improvements and really think about your customer base. However, it is very rare to find a pattern the software will read. So grateful when it does but wish it wasn’t so hard to get it to work. ### 4/5 — Ditto App *2025-03-04, version 1.5.1* When I open the ditto app it opens full screen on my iPhone then it won’t close with a swipe. All other apps swipe closed but not this one for some reason. I have to turn my iPhone off & on again. ### 3/5 — Enable local storage *2025-01-24, version 1.5.1* I’m guessing the BYOP feature is subscription based after 5mb because you’re storing the patterns in the cloud. An attempt to justify a paid feature that should be inherently free to the device. I’d recommend allowing us to store them on whatever device the app is on free and then using the subscriptions for fabric, and patterns, and unique elements like cricut. The projector was 799 and charging for a perpetual subscription to use your own patterns with the device you already paid hundreds is tasteless and greedy. The software is fine but for principle alone it’s 3 stars for me. I was lucky enough to get mine on sale but I can see why the reputation is poor on this machine. ### 3/5 — Huge learning curve *2024-07-18, version 1.3.0* Since they’re trying something new, there’s a huge learning curve because no one has ever tried it before. That’s my issue. Calibrating the projector with the mat every use is draining because calibration takes twenty tries to get right unless you just skip. The pros are that you can customize the patterns to your measurements with the touch of a button. That’s the big draw to me. Obviously a pattern projector is amazing, but the customization is my favorite thing. I used to wish for an invention like this when I was cutting out patterns or when my cats destroyed meticulously cut patterns. Anyways hope this helps. ### 3/5 — Landscape only? *2024-03-24, version 1.2.0* I just got the Ditto. I use this for bag making and garments. The app is terrible, not user friendly, and the pattern instructions are seriously lacking. Who make a phone app that only works in landscape mode?!? I like using my phone, not an iPad, not my Mac. My phone! For something so expensive, you would think they would develop the app for mobile UI/UX. And the patterns instructions are not designed for mobile either. It’s not a great experience for such a niche concept. I highly recommend you get a product design team to help you improve user experience. I should be able to purchase and upload patterns and stitch them in the app, not have to go to a third party. It’s a lack planning. ### 3/5 — Could easily be better if they worked out some kinks *2023-12-10, version 1.2.0* So much potential in this product! I just hope they invest a little bit more into the software. I will come back and update if they improve it. Right now this is a 3 star app mostly because of frustrations with connection and calibration. I know a lot of this is out of the developer’s hands (e.g. WiFi strength, keystoning, etc.) but what isn’t out of their hands is the resilience of the app. The app frequently crashes if everything is not set up perfectly. For example, if my overhead lights are on, sometimes I get a message that says to make sure lighting is even, but other times the app will just hang indefinitely. Also the calibration verification shapes are consistently off by a quarter inch in at least one corner. If I simply had an “advanced” or “fine tuning” mode, I could skip almost all of this frustration. Once in workspace mode, it’s not too bad. A little hard to figure out what’s going on since it’s slow to respond and there is no visual feedback for presses. But otherwise pretty good, actually. It’s just that all the steps in order to get to the actual workflow get in your way. I still think it’s probably better than tissue patterns, though. Also, finally, I have to repeat what other people have said about the website. The filtering options are abysmal. This wouldn’t be so much of a problem if the website wasn’t also sooooo slow. There are something like 10 men’s shirts that all look nearly identical in the main pictures, so you’re left to try to open up each one separately to figure out what the differences are, and the website often loses your place. ### 3/5 — Great start — interface and options need improvements *2023-04-15, version 1.0.1* This app is linked with the ditto website and requires a ditto projector for use, and one really can’t be reviewed without the others. In order to use the ditto app with the projector, you have to have an account on the website to purchase or subscribe to patterns. The site offers ditto branded patterns as well as a small selection of other brands’ patterns. Some of the ditto branded patterns are fully customizable; all are designed to be adjusted according to the measurement profile applied by the user. The Good: There is a wide variety of patterns and the app interface includes very nicely produced tutorials to get to know the workspace. The app allows you to create folders to organize patterns. The instructions for projecting patterns are good. The build quality of the hardware appears to be solid. The Not So Good: Many of the patterns are repetitive and uninspired. The photographs and fabrics used are not particularly high quality, which seems at odds with a device that is far too expensive for the average hobbyist to invest in. The pattern database is clunky to navigate and does not offer enough filters. At a minimum, users seeking to match a pattern to an existing stash fabric should be able to filter patterns by whether they are suitable for wovens or knits. While the proposed layouts of the pattern pieces are good, the cutting surface is small, so most larger pieces will have to be cut in stages. The target sticker alignment system is a clever solution to this problem, but it’s not great for garments that need precision. The projector cannot be used to project a user’s existing projector files. The customizable patterns are the most exciting element of the ditto offering but are somewhat buggy, in that many garments appear to have far more options than they really do, as one modification eliminates the availability of many of the others. Conclusion: I bought the ditto because I am a gadget nut, and I have disposable income to spend on tools for my sewing practice. This tool is full of potential but is probably not ready for prime time for most sewing enthusiasts. Ditto needs to work to either attract more indie designers or allow users to use PDFs from those whose current pattern delivery system is limited to projector files and/or taped together A4/letter print-at-home patterns, since most people technically savvy enough to want to fiddle with this also want to be able to use the latest and greatest patterns from their favorite designers.
