## What is Dive Free?

Dive Free is the Apple Watch companion for recreational freediving and snorkeling — a beautiful logbook for your time in the water, not a dive computer.

Start a session on your Apple Watch before you get in. Dive Free tracks your depth and dives completely hands-free using the Digital Crown and Action button, so you never have to touch a water-locked screen. Back on the surface, relive every dive on your iPhone or iPad with depth charts, maps of your dive spots, and the photos you took that day.

Dive Free is a logbook and memory platform for recreational freedivers, snorkelers, and travelers. It is NOT a dive computer and has no dive-computer capabilities: it provides no decompression, dive-planning, or safety information, and depth tracking is capped at 6 metres (shallow water). Never use it as a safety device. Always dive within your training, follow your local rules, and never freedive alone.

Apple Watch Ultra is the best experience: it tracks depth and lets you run the whole session underwater, hands-free — start and stop sessions, log dives, and drop markers with the watch's buttons. Apple Watch Series 10 and 11 also track depth, and other Apple Watch models log your sessions with GPS location and heart rate.

New in 1.3.7:
• Crop a session — trim a forgotten surface tail (or an early start) right on your iPhone: drag the start and end on the map, see exactly what will be removed, and your dives stay intact.
• Export your dives — share any session as UDDF (dive logs like Subsurface), FIT (Garmin/Strava), GPX, CSV or TCX. Your data, yours to take anywhere.
• Cleaner surface tracks — a new smoothing engine draws GPS paths and distances closer to what you actually swam.
• Surface-recovery hint — between dives, your watch's timer changes colour and gives a gentle buzz once you've rested the recommended interval (a common rule of thumb, not safety advice — always dive with a buddy).
• Water Lock, handled for you — the watch locks its screen when a session starts and each time you dive, so a wet screen can't register stray taps. Turn the Digital Crown to unlock and eject water; both moments are optional in the watch's settings.
• Back up everything — sessions, dive spots and trips — to a single file, and choose whether to include your voice notes, photos and videos. You see the estimated size before you export. Restoring is additive, so nothing already on your device is lost, and photos are only re-imported when the originals are missing.
• Better translations — labels that were still appearing in English now show in your language.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-07-11

Dive detection, tuned by you — and a big accuracy fix:
• Dives now end when you actually surface, not a metre early. Your dive times include the final ascent, and brief bobs at the surface no longer split one dive into two.
• New in Settings: adjust the dive-detection rules (depth + time) and how quickly a dive ends — synced to your watch automatically.
• Discard an accidental session right from the post-dive summary — it's removed from your watch, your iPhone, and your Fitness rings.

Your phone now shows a live session even when the app is closed: a notification appears when you start diving, and on iOS 17.2+ the Live Activity / Dynamic Island can start automatically.

Dive Free now speaks 8 languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Japanese, and Ukrainian.

Plus: voice notes now sync reliably to all your devices, deleting sessions frees the space everywhere (including Health), re-sending from the watch is more robust, and battery use during long sessions is lower.
