You don’t have to connect a VPN; you can alter the default DNS directly. Other apps like PrivateDNS let you do this by manually entering a custom DNS. It’s always enabled, whether I’m on WiFi or Cellular. But with this app, I need to be connected to the VPN for the DNS to work. Which means if the VPN gets disconnected or if I already have a VPN provider, the custom DNS won’t work if I’m disconnected from SurfShark. I’m disappointed. iOS and iPadOS already have a custom DNS feature. Very simple and easy to set up and if you happen to run into issues or problems connecting Surfshark has tutorials and if things get ready dicey there is a live chat room for Surfshark support. The two bonuses for me was the commitment by Surfshark not to keep logs and second the multi-hop security feature that makes surfing the web like stealth fueled shark. Great price!!!!! I already use SurfShark VPN (which is a great product as well), but I still get the add that pops up when using Trust DNS that advertises SurfShark. There needs a way to not give current SurfShark users advertisements. 2. The only SurfShark DNS servers do not offer DNSSec, or ad blocking.
