## What is Do Sides??

You used to be really good at swimming.
Now you swim at the public lap pool. You share lanes with snorkel triathletes. You're trying to get back, but you don't have time to think about what to swim every time you show up.
Do Sides? builds your set so you don't have to.

OVERLY-COMPLEX™ WORKOUT GENERATOR
The app reads your swim and every other workout from Apple Health, runs a 10-step calculator (recovery score, stimulus rotation, rest-corrected yard budgets, progressive breathing sets) and builds a workout that fits what you've actually been doing this week. EN1, EN2, EN3, SP, technique. Proper periodization. Deload weeks. Benchmark sets every 4th week. Shapes rotate automatically — no back-to-back repeats.

DELIVERED TO YOUR APPLE WATCH
Lock in the set and it goes straight to your Watch via WorkoutKit. Send-offs, rest intervals, drill instructions — all on your wrist mid-swim. Phone goes in the locker.

YOUR PROGRESS, TRACKED
The Books tab logs every swim back from Apple Health. PR detection. Lungbuster progression (every 3 → every 5 → every 7 → ladder → every 9 → The Sufferer). Benchmark trending. Milestones. Shareable card for your group chat.

WHO IT'S FOR
- Former USA Swimming / NCAA swimmers now in their 30s and 40s
- Masters swimmers who used to compete and want structure again
- Anyone who can recite the difference between EN2 and EN3 from memory (if not, we have a glossary)

NOT FOR
- Learning to swim
- Open water / triathlon training
- General fitness (unless you like to push yourself)

ON YOUR DATA
The app reads Apple Health, read-only. No backend, no account, no third-party analytics, no tracking. Everything stays on your phone.

Built by Jesse Gill in Portland, OR.

### 5/5 — Exceptional & Intentional

*2026-06-16*

Finally! An app that removes the mental barrier that can be "How should I plan my workouts to get back in the pool?" I love leaving my phone in the locker while the watch gets to do exactly what it was designed for- let's be honest getting to use this kind of tech in the water still feels luxurious! Saves me so much time I waste when I stress over how to create my own training plan. And thoughtful to include your other workouts that support your swim practice. Highly recommend!

### 5/5 — Smart app to get back in the pool!

*2026-06-11*

Great time saver! No need to figure out a daily program, track completed workouts and days in the pool. I’m a follower, not a leader, and this app tells me what to do based on my health data. Love it!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 0.6.2 — 2026-06-03

v0.6.2 — Making progress on making goals cleaner. Currently focused around the first 12 weeks back but I'm cranking away on what a cultural shift will look like when you're back to the pool for years, not just returning for the first couple weeks.
Added:
- Goals leads with your Program: A new card up top shows the chapter you're in, what that chapter is for, and the whole three-chapter arc.
- Goals say what they actually do. Each goal in the library now spells out the lean it puts on your program

Changed:
- Goals tells the truth about itself. Plain language: the program runs every time you swim; a goal just tilts it toward something specific. The program is the foundation — the goal is the thumb on the scale. (It always worked this way under the hood; now the screen says so.)
- Progress "This Week" matches the calendar: It now counts the current week the same way the calendar right above it does.
- Your Usual: updated the weekly progress comparison from 7 day rolling average to your average week over the last month — instead of a single, noisy signal.
- Workout titles match the actual set: Titles now read off the day's real work instead of a fixed label. Now "Threshold + Kick" only shows up on a day that actually has a kick - lol small oversight my bad.

### 0.6.1 — 2026-05-31

Very large change to the calculator:
Calculator v3.6 - Set time now fills the time you actually have available to swim. Smarter Warms up, and tons of real science under the hood.

Added:
- Your pace is read from your swims. The generator now infers your threshold pace from your Apple Health swim history instead of a one-size chapter default.
- The set fills your budgeted time. After building your workout, the engine plays it forward — every interval, every rest period — to estimate your real in-pool time. If it comes up short of the time you asked for, it tops you off with easy aerobic so you actually fill your lane time. This is what finally closed the "I asked for 60 minutes and was showered by 45" gap.
- Receipts. The methodology behind the generator — technique-day ordering, breath-control safety, warmup and cooldown, and how your pace gets anchored — is now backed by a bibliography of real, peer-reviewed sports science, verified against PubMed and readable in the app. The proprietary part is how it's all combined and tuned for a returning masters swimmer; the parts themselves are published research, not vibes.

Changed:
- Warmup scales with the day's stimulus. Sprint days now get the most thorough warmup in the rotation — you don't open it up cold before fast, full-rest work. Easier days keep the leaner warmup.
- Sprint and VO2 days stay short and sharp. The fill-to-your-time top-off only runs on aerobic and technique days.
- Blocks are paced honestly. The warmup eases in, the cooldown is a real slow flush, and drills, kick, and choice swims each carry their own effort pace — so the time estimate that decides the fill actually matches what you'll swim, not a flat "everything at one speed" guess.
- The hardest breath work is gated by your aerobic base. The severe Lungbuster tiers (every-7 and up, the ladder, the long ones) now stay locked until you've built a real aerobic base. Until then you get the gentler every-3 / every-5 patterns.

Fixed:
- The budgeted-time top-off now lands before the cooldown instead of after it, so your easy flush stays where it belongs — dead last.

Removed:
- The post-process validation step — we're down to ten. The engine used to build your set, then run a separate checklist at the end to confirm it was legit. With this round of refinements those checks are now guaranteed where they actually happen during construction

App Version v0.6.1 - Receipts + the Bryce fix

Added:
- "Yes, I have receipts." — a References screen. Soon to be built into the "Why this set?" functionality pre v1.
- Pace anchor shows up in "Why this Set?" The reveal now shows the pace the engine built from — and where it came from: your threshold swims, your longest blocks, a corrected average of everything, or the chapter baseline when you're still new, with the sample count it had to work with.
- "No heart rate sets" added to the manifesto. lol

Changed:
- The engine explainer got honest — and dropped a step. It now describes what actually ships
- Progress calendar rebuilt as a rolling 5-week look-back.

Fixed:
- Sprint sets now lead with their timing. One sprint shape tucked its send-off in a trailing "(on 1:30)" while every other shape leads with the clock — so at a glance it read like the rest was missing.
- The 7-day bar on Home shows true colors. A day with more than one kind of workout — a swim and a lift, say — used to render with muddy blended colors (a teal, an olive, an off-green) that weren't in the legend. Each activity now gets a clean, solid wedge in its real color: blue swim, amber lift, red cardio, green easy.

### 0.6.0 — 2026-05-29

Added:
- Feeling headline on "Why this Set?" The recovery panel now leads with a human sentence
- Privacy line on the Health permission step. "Your Health data stays on your phone. We never see it."
- Recovery-curve nerd note in the calculator explainer.

Changed:
- Share card palette-coded. Time data → yellow, HR → amber, calories → red, rest and prescriptions in the set lines pop in yellow and blue the same way Today's Set does.
- In-app post-workout summary picks up the same palette.
- TEC days now show the aerobic fill as its own labeled block.
- Cut the "Probably On Deck" shelf from Home.
- More set shapes surface their rest pattern inline. Ten shapes (pyramids, ladders, brackets, negative splits, drill circuits, stroke-count games, and others) used to render their detail line without the rest interval

Fixed
- Settled an iOS 26 deprecation in the share card renderer — visual output unchanged, just the under-the-hood API.

### 0.5.0 — 2026-05-28

Added:
- PR confetti. First time you view a personal-record session, a brief full-palette confetti burst pops over the headline. Fires once per workout
- Today's Set rows now have a glanceable color hierarchy.
- Aerobic fill now shows its rest.

Changed:
- Aerobic fill now shows its rest.
- Cooldown breathing instruction now reaches the Watch.

Fixed:
- Today's Set no longer re-rolls a different shape on repeated duration taps.
- Post-workout headline picker no longer locks a regular swim cadence onto a subset of its bucket.
- Lungbuster Ladder breath pattern corrected to 3/5/7/5 per length
- The recovery score now actually sees yesterday's lift after midnight.
- Watch delivery overhaul: send-offs ("4×100 on 1:30") are now enforced natively

### 0.3.0 — 2026-05-28
