## What is DoFzone?

DoFzone is a depth-of-field calculator made by a photographer, for photographers and filmmakers.

Choose your camera and lens, set the f-number and distance, and instantly see how much will be in focus — in front of and behind your subject, plus the hyperfocal distance.

CALCULATOR
- Depth of field, near/far limits and hyperfocal distance
- Angle of view, 35mm equivalent, field of view and magnification
- Background blur at infinity
- Circle of confusion presets (Standard / Strict / High-res)

DOF TABLE
- See depth of field across f-numbers and distances at a glance
- Tap any cell for details and apply it to the calculator

FORMAT COMPARISON
- Compare full frame, APS-C, Micro Four Thirds, medium format and large format
- Find the focal length and f-number that give the same look on another format

LENS & CAMERA DATABASE
- Over 1,500 lenses and 460 cameras, including older models and cinema cameras
- Minimum focus distances for almost every lens
- Favorites and My Gear: keep the cameras and lenses you own (or used to own) one tap away
- Add your own custom lenses

LiDAR MEASURING (in-app purchase)
- Tap any subject on the camera view to measure its distance
- Adjust the f-number while measuring and check the depth of field on the spot
- Set a target depth of field to see the f-number you need
- Measure the length and depth of objects, and find the best focus point
- Show your lens's angle of view as a frame or zoom
- Preview background blur live from LiDAR depth
- Capture with depth data and later redo the focus point, f-number, focal length, blur and measurements
- Save captures to Photos with shooting information

On iPhones without a LiDAR Scanner, distances are estimates based on plane detection.

LiDAR Measuring is a one-time purchase. All other features are free.

## Pricing and in-app purchases

Base price: Free.

**One-time purchases**

| Purchase | Price | Type |
| --- | --- | --- |
| LiDAR Measuring | $5.99 | one-time |

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.4 — 2026-10-30

- The app now works in landscape. In landscape, the LiDAR screen moves its buttons and panel to the right side
- LiDAR: for group photos, shows the aperture and focus that keep everyone's eyes within the depth of field (people at the edges of the frame are measured by depth along the lens axis)
- DoF table: new "Distance for a depth" view that lists, for each aperture, the focus distance that gives a target depth (total, in front of or behind the focus point)
- New setting: aperture steps (full stops or 1/3 stops)
- The optimal aperture now stays within the selected lens's range, from wide open to minimum aperture
- The LiDAR control panel can be collapsed, and it no longer changes size when its contents change
- The measured length and focus labels no longer overlap
- Added Leica M-mount lenses from TTArtisan, 7Artisans, Thypoch, Light Lens Lab and more
- Number fields: move the cursor by holding the space bar, and close the keyboard with the Done button

### 1.0.3 — 2026-10-27

- In LiDAR measuring, touch and drag a placed point to adjust it
- Each cell of the depth of field table also shows the depth in front of / behind the focus
- Tap a cell to open a detail page with a close-up dimension diagram and a field-of-view and angle-of-view diagram
- A compact camera, lens and focal length bar under the table, with focal length presets right next to the value
- Shortcuts to LiDAR measuring and the capture library at the top right of the table
- Camera and sensor format selection are combined: choose "No camera" to pick a format
- Compact cameras added, including the RX100 series, Tough TG-7, PowerShot G7 X, LUMIX LX100 and COOLPIX P1000
- Tap a face in a saved capture to see a small depth of field table around the focus distance and recommended f-stop; tap it to open the full table
- In saved captures, the f-stop slider sits right below the focus and depth of field, and the chosen lens is also applied to the Calculator tab

### 1.0.2 — 2026-10-25

- Now available on iPad. The calculator also runs on Apple silicon Macs
- People detection in LiDAR mode: focuses on the nearer eye automatically and shows the f-stop that keeps both eyes sharp, based on the head angle
- With several people in view, tap a face to prioritize that person
- Set a target depth of field to see the best f-stop for the measured distance
- The f-stop now stays within the lens's aperture range; if more is needed, the required f-stop is shown in red
- Switch between Distance and Focus point while measuring
- Face detection in saved captures, with eye focus
- Change the camera and lens when re-editing saved captures
- Pinch to zoom and pan saved captures, so lines and labels no longer overlap
- On iPad, the capture library and editor open full screen (photo and settings side by side in landscape)
- Tapping the recommended f-stop for a person also moves the focus to their eye
- Select All and Deselect All in the capture library
- Clearer icon buttons on the LiDAR screen, easier to use with larger text sizes

### 1.0.1 — 2026-10-21

What's new in DoFzone 1.0.1

LANGUAGE
- English language support (switch in iPhone Settings or via "Language" in the app)

CALCULATOR
- Focal length, f-number and distance sliders now sit right under the depth-of-field result, making them easier to use with larger text sizes
- New LiDAR button at the top right

GEAR & DATA
- The Lenses tab is now Gear, with lens and camera lists
- My Gear: register cameras and lenses you own or used to own for quick selection
- Favorites for cameras and lenses
- Greatly expanded lens and camera database (older models, cinema cameras, all Cosina and LAOWA lenses) with minimum focus distances

LiDAR MEASURING
- Set a target depth of field to see the f-number you need
- Change format and lens on the spot; angle-of-view frame and zoom now stay clear of the controls
- See the best focus position in measure mode, with an option to hide the marks
- Measurement line thickness adapts to your distance from the subject
- Select multiple captures (or all) to save to Photos or delete

OTHER
