## What is Dogear?

Read faster — and prove you understood.

Most speed-reading apps only measure how fast you go. Dogear measures whether you actually understood what you read, so you can find your comprehension-safe speed: the fastest pace where understanding still holds.

No “read 1,000 words a minute” promises. Decades of research are clear: speed and comprehension trade off, and skimming faster isn’t the same as reading faster. Dogear is built around that truth.

HOW IT WORKS
• Pick something to read — paste any text, choose a passage from the built-in library, or read a fresh passage written privately on your iPhone.
• Pace yourself — flash one word at a time with the pivot letter held in place, or sweep a calm highlight across normal text. Adjust the speed mid-read, scrub anywhere, rewind five words, start with a 3-2-1 countdown.
• Prove it stuck — a short comprehension check after each passage, scored and explained answer by answer, shown right next to your pace.

• Reading font (system, serif, rounded), text size, and paper / dark themes
• Bold word starts (bionic-style fixation anchors), pause-at-punctuation, pivot guides

• A daily-goal ring, reading streak, and trend charts that plot pace and comprehension together
• Every passage is labeled with where it came from, and every check with how it was made

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Passages and quizzes are generated by Apple’s on-device model when your iPhone supports it — your text never leaves your device. On other iPhones, Dogear’s built-in library passages each include a real comprehension quiz, so the pace-and-prove loop works everywhere. No account. No tracking. No third-party ads. Privacy label: Data Not Collected.

A stricter, more honest comprehension-safe speed.

Your comprehension-safe speed used to be the single fastest read that ever cleared 80%. One lucky quiz could set it, and it never expired. Now Dogear waits until you’ve proved a pace twice within the last 90 days before claiming it — and when you’re one good read away from a new best, it tells you exactly what to beat.

Slipped below 80%? The results screen now offers to re-run the same passage at a slower pace, so the check turns into a next step instead of a dead end.

The built-in library has grown from 6 passages to 30, each with its own hand-written comprehension quiz — so there’s far more to read on iPhones without Apple Intelligence.

Also: the reader now closes itself when you reach the last word, so the comprehension check comes straight to you.

Everything you read still stays on your device.
