## What is DoNext?

Know what to do next. One clear action, zero maintenance, pure focus.

Most to-do list apps and task managers become a second job: sorting, scheduling, and watching overdue tasks pile up in red. DoNext takes the opposite approach. You capture small, doable next steps, and the app keeps your lists fresh on its own.

SHUFFLE BEATS SORTING (ONLY IN DONEXT)

• A sorted list teaches your eyes to skip the bottom. DoNext reshuffles every list when you open it, so every task gets seen
• Nothing rots at the end of the list, and there is nothing left to re-sort. Ever
• It works like a built in review with zero effort: if a task keeps getting skipped, it is too big. Shrink it or delete it

ALWAYS KNOW WHERE TO START

• Small steps instead of vague goals: "search flights to Paris" gets done, "plan vacation" gets postponed
• Only what is relevant now: open the list for your current context (Home, Office, Errands) and see nothing else
• No project list needed. One small next step per project is enough to keep it moving

NO GUILT, NO MAINTENANCE

• No due date nagging, no red overdue badges. Just what you can do next
• Completed tasks clear themselves overnight. No archiving, no tidying
• Batch edit: select several tasks to complete, move or share at once, or fix the wording across all of them with find and replace, prefixes and suffixes
• Merge lists: combine several lists into a new one, or send them back to the Inbox in a single step. Reorganize without losing anything

FRICTIONLESS CAPTURE

• The add field is always on screen. Type, tap plus, done
• Duplicate detection: DoNext searches your lists while you type and shows similar tasks before you add a second copy
• Inbox for raw thoughts. Turn them into real next actions later, back at your list
• Paste any list from Notes or email and every line becomes its own task
• Capture from anywhere with Siri, Shortcuts and Spotlight. Say "Mind sweep with DoNext" and it lands in your Inbox

FAST WHEN IT COUNTS

• One tap completion
• Jump to any list by typing its initials ("o" for "Online") or pressing tab
• Full keyboard shortcuts and a sidebar on iPad
• Long press to edit, delete or open links in a task

PLAYS WELL WITH YOUR SYSTEM

DoNext is a focused next action task manager: context lists and one clear step at a time. Keep your calendar for appointments and your project tool for big plans. DoNext is where the actual doing happens. Learn the full methodology in the Discover tab.

### 5/5 — Come back

*2023-11-13*

This was so good! Bring it back 😩

### 5/5 — Streamlined and awesome.

*2021-02-16*

I used Things app for years. Always focused on keeping all my tasks highly organized and categorized in projects, areas, etc. Unfortunately, I spent too much time and energy on organization instead of where I should have focused, on actually Getting Stuff Done.

Once I began using Things exclusively for actionable items, I realized that was more robust than I needed. I sought a leaner, more streamlined app to manage my ToDo list with only a minimal amount of organization. And then I found DoNext.

I appreciate the stripped-down and powerful functionality, as well as the minimal user interface. It's just what I needed to help me actively manage my ToDo list. Oh, and the recent feature of the automatic shuffling of tasks in each area helps keep the list fresh--useful for some of us who may ignore areas of the list and focus only on newly-added tasks. Stoked.

### 1/5 — This is not for GTD at all

*2021-02-10*

It is scam to label this app for GTD methodology

Update to reply for developer response what is lacking in GTD:
- Sorry I can not do that work. Just read the book and will figure out, or look at Omnifocus or Nirvana apps

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback.

Could you tell me what feature you are were expecting?
In GTD terminology DoNext focuses on the next physical steps (like „search for flight tickets to Paris“) on context lists (e.g. @home, @office, @waiting-for). I regularly get feedback from users happily using DoNext as part of their GTD System.

Thanks for replying. You mentioned OmniFocus and Nirvana. Both are great tools that many GTDers I know are using happily. OmniFocus combines project planing and context lists in one tool. Nirvana supports context lists as well through the use of labels, but also allows project planing, scheduling and more.

DoNext has a different philosophy by focusing on context lists. It helps me to have a dedicated tool for my next actions and quickly switching contexts using the keyboard. I do project planing separately in other apps.
David Allen in most of his software specific Setup Guides recommends to consider not linking next actions and projects.
After talking to hundreds of people and testing both approaches for years, I found that productivity can improve, if you have different apps for next actions (DoNext) and higher altitude planing.

If you give me more details about your workflow, I will consider it when developing new features. Looking forward to hearing from you.

### 3/5 — Missing project heading

*2020-01-21*

I really miss the Project heading (/project) that was in the previous DoNext app. Will that be added back in? Please. :)

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback.

DoNext focuses on next-action lists. The app moved away from project lists, since they add overhead to the workflow. You could create a list called PROJECTS. You can read more about the reasons for not using a project list in your tasks system on: donext.app/project-list-no-more

If you give me more details about how you use projects, I will consider it when developing new features. Looking forward to hearing from you.

### 5/5 — perhaps the best tool for GTD practicing people

*2020-01-11*

• Powerful multi-select. Select several tasks at once to complete, move, delete, or share them together, instead of one at a time.
