### 5/5 — Awesomeawesomeawesome

*2014-12-28, version 1.3.7*

Beautiful. Simply beautiful creation. I'm going to love losing several weeks of my life playing this.

### 5/5 — As good as the original

*2014-12-20, version 1.3.7*

Bravo - a worthy tribute to Mike Singleton. Really enjoyed playing this again beginning to end.

### 5/5 — Superb return

*2014-03-16, version 1.2*

For those of us old enough to remember the 80's and late nights hunched over their ZX Spectrum, Mike Singleton's classic Doomdark's Revenge is now available on your IPad!

It's exactly as you remember it with its iconic graphics and compelling game play for anybody who likes strategy/adventure games. The back story is a rich world which follows the events of the original game Lords of midnight and will not disappoint. This game is tremendous value and one that begs more plays after months.

Travel around the Icemark through the eyes of Luxor and other lords you recruit as you build allies and armies before the inevitable clash with Shareth the Heartstealer. If this wasn't enough, there's also the small matter of Luxor's son who is missing and under the spell of Shareth, somewhere in the Icemark.

Perhaps the most satisfying aspect of the game is the way the developer is so approachable and quick to interact with players online. This is a work of love.i can't recommend this game highly enough.

### 5/5 — Epic - version 2

*2014-03-16, version 1.2*

After a very slightly buggy initial release everything is now basically sorted. No hesitation in recommending this superb game. Better than Lords of Midnight in many ways because of the greater variety of possible strategies and outcomes, it's not quite as focused as the original. Much of the early and middle part of the game is a 'recruitathon' with the player having to work out who is pals with who and fight skirmishes when approaches are rejected. Nonetheless this is an absorbing, massive and epic game that has been updated just about enough for it to still be relevant and playable today without throwing away the unique style that Mike Singleton pioneered 30 years ago. Top marks.

### 5/5 — Yet again the perfect balance

*2014-03-06, version 1.2*

Old and new tech combines in this remake of the follow up to lords of midnight. Retaining the stunning playability, story and game mechanics of the original, and marrying it with gorgeous graphics that look stunning on a massive screen as well as a small one, this is the perfect remake. Similar to the first game except this time the world is more dynamic, with lords wandering and making war with each other. All chilli Hugger have changed is in built mapping, grouping of lords, and other minor control and improved UI experiences. Get this and lose a few days in another timeless classic

### 5/5 — Don't think, just buy

*2014-02-21, version 1.0*

At last, it's here, and boy it was worth the wait. This timeless classic war game / adventure game sees you take control of characters and armies, trying to recruit others to you banner and find magical artifacts before you battle with Shareth and her hordes. The gameplay is so rich, many alternative tactical approaches are possible and the huge map means no two games will ever be the same. Will you plan to meet Shareth head on, lay a trap or charge up the flanks? Undoubtedly one of the best games of the genre ever made.

### 5/5 — Wot a superb game !

*2014-02-20, version 1.0*

Just need to de-bug the easy recruitment and doomdarks limitless ice lords ... Then straight onto 'eye of the moon '!!
Can't wait.

### 5/5 — Wehey!!!!!!

*2014-02-19, version 1.0*

*does the happy dance*

Thanks Chris
Thanks Mike

### 5/5 — 5 STARS !!!!! EXCELLENT !!!!!

*2014-02-18, version 1.0*

For a game to offer 100's of hours of gameplay, plus unique and changing scenarios, dependant on your gameplay, is very rare in a game, never mind the AppStore. To then have a game at the price of a coffee, that's had so much work put into it to bring it to the IOS, and NOT be conned with "in-app purchases" is an EPIC game in more ways than one. 5 STARS!!!!! Excellent game, Excellent, Value!

### 5/5 — All time classic

*2014-02-18, version 1.0*

Thanks chilli hugger for restoring another all time classic!!!!

### 5/5 — Finally, the perfect revival of a gorgeous game.

*2014-02-18, version 1.0*

The author won't disappoint fans of Singleton's epic original. This game is every bit as good as the Lords of Midnight, and then some. For strategy fans, it is a must. For adventure fans, it is a must. For retro fans, it is a must. Did I miss anyone? Verdict: excellent. Recommendation: strong buy.

### 5/5 — Takes me back......

*2014-02-17, version 1.0*

It's Xmas 1984 again! Fantastic in every way, lots of neat modern touches without losing any of the atmosphere of the original.

### 5/5 — One of the greats, by one of the greats

*2014-02-17, version 1.0*

Like Lords Of Midnight, this conversion has been done fantastically well. Great effort by Chris Wild. Mike Singleton would have been proud :-)

### 5/5 — Flawless update to a gaming masterpiece

*2014-02-17, version 1.0*

Amazing update to one of my all time favourite games, loving it. It's even better than the stunning Lords of Midnight. Well done Chilli Hugger.

### 5/5 — Doomdark's Revenge

*2014-02-17, version 1.0*

What a great game so waited for this, job well done Chris and happy birthday to mike singleton this week I do believe.

### 5/5 — Nostalgia time..

*2014-02-16, version 1.0*

If my 12 year old self could see the future me from 1984 , playing DDR , on a slab of glass, in high def goodness anytime he liked without having to hog the family tv he might have just imploded with joy.

Superb recreation and enhancement of this 30 year old classic, grab it now and the previous title while you are at it.... Sheer joy :)

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Mart

*2014-03-29, version 1.3*

Everything looks good at the beginning, however having taken Rothron & Tarithel through virtually every tower twice the location of the Runes of Finorn & the Spell of Swiftness are never revealed. This was a big part of the spectrum version and greatly spoils this version. Having paid for this I will only play again when this is fixed

### 2/5 — What am I doing?!?

*2016-02-05, version 1.3.8*

I love the idea of the game, I read the novella, I love that it looks like a spectrum game; but I am wondering around a huge map finding a hammer and sword, bumping into other armies who I am controlling but it gives me the option to attack them, I cannot make sense of coordinating an attack on one enemy army with several armies I control. There is no clear path. Results of battles are sketchy. It doesn't feel like I am getting anywhere. I've been playing for hours getting mor characters to control fighting battles but. It really gaining a sense of loss or victory... Sometimes you can find the battle results but other times there doesn't seem to be an acknowledgment of a battle having taken place. The game has a nice mood to it but I am tired of venturing now.

### 3/5 — Wonderful game, watch out for crashes

*2014-02-18, version 1.0*

In my first play session on an iPad 4, I had a number of crashes. I'll be eager to play some more after the stability improves a bit.

### 4/5 — Excellent recreation, but not quite right

*2016-02-17, version 1.3.8*

This is an excellent recreation of the classic 80s game, but tweaks have made gameplay too easy. The 'undo' and 'return to dawn' options both take away a high degree of the games difficulty eg visiting stones/temples only go discover the languor of death, etc. made the game tricky; plus in the original the various characters often group themselves together in unbreakable units and don't present themselves in orderly fashion for recruitment.

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2024-11-01, version 2.0.8 (50)*

Thanks for bringing this to my mobile phone. Great memories of playing the best game ever created. Really like the extra features such as the map reveal and the menus are really intuitive. Brilliant job!

### 5/5 — Above and beyond

*2022-04-11, version 2.0.2 (42)*

Thank you for all your hard work in resurrecting DDR with no real prospect of reward for your efforts. So far, I’ve seen Torormarg the Dwarf walk through the Moonprince fortress of Gloruk without being stopped, otherwise you once again have done MS proud. I’d be happy to make a contribution if loot box or two was added in future too. John the Moonprince has a nice ring to it.

### 5/5 — The Moonprince has ridden forth into the Icemark

*2017-06-07, version 1.4.0*

I bought this as soon as it was released on iOS, having played it lots (but never beaten it) on my old Spectrum. This port is superb with faithful but improved graphics, and a map function to make the game less daunting. Played and beaten it a good few times and thoroughly enjoyed it. Many thanks to the developer for rewriting it and releasing it on modern machines. Really hoping he can now update it to 64 bit so it will keep working when iOS 11 comes out!
Update 7/6/2017 - Woohoo!!! Now updated to 64 bit so should keep running when iOS 11 released. Big thank you to the developer!

### 5/5 — Happy days

*2016-10-15, version 1.3.8*

An excellent conversion of perhaps the best 8 bit game ever made (controversial, I know!!). Gameplay is much improved by being able to group lords. One minor negative is that the recruitment of icelords seems much easier than I remember, perhaps because they are not grouped as often as they were in the original. As a result it's a lot easier to beat the game fwiw. That said, it's an awesome conversion and brilliant that MS's classic game is still entertaining players decades later, well done!

### 5/5 — A classic springs back to life!

*2016-08-09, version 1.3.8*

Excellent update to what remains a simple but hugely enjoyable strategy game.... The adventure almost inevitably climaxing with Shareth appearing out of the fog with her legions of Iceguard and bands of treacherous Dwarves, Giants and Fey.

On a more practical note, the ability to group lords was particularly welcome.

And the inscription to Mike Singleton, inscribed upon one of the northern temples, was an understated, but rather touching moment.

### 5/5 — Faithful

*2016-07-25, version 1.3.8*

Faithful and therefore very playable version of the original. Got lost in this for three days recently. Epic.

## Most praised reviews (4 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Singleton's Return

*2016-05-02, version 1.3.8*

A worthy sequel to a groundbreaking early game.

### 5/5 — Doomdark's Revenge

*2015-03-24, version 1.3.8*

Exceptionally well made adaptation- I can't stop playing it! Highly recommended- I remember playing the original and this is such a perfect remake. I note from your blog you are making the Eye of Moon too- can't wait!

### 5/5 — Excellent version

*2015-02-22, version 1.3.8*

This is a fantastic conversion of a classic strategy game! Very well adapted to iPad. Now, one thing, the sadly missed Mike Singleton planned the last of the moonprince trilogy called "eye of the moon". It was never realised. It was going to be set in the greener lands South of midnight. Are you guys up for doing this?

### 5/5 — Glorious update

*2015-01-27, version 1.3.7*

Both this game and Lords of Midnight are superb updates to the classic Mike Singleton originals. Well worth the money.
I hope the dev will one day bring LoM 3 to iOS, it will be an instant purchase for me!
