## What is Doomsday?

Doomsday: M.A.D. (Mutually Assured Destruction) is a nuclear strategy game: a 1v1 ICBM duel, a full war from DEFCON 5 to DEFCON 1, and a living world where nations are born, trade, arm themselves and go to war on their own.

THE DUEL
Two nations share a generated map. Each one has a headquarters, silos, rocket batteries, missile defences, a radar and tank factories. Raze the enemy HQ or bring its population under 15% to win, and saturate their missile defences before the big strikes.

WAR MODE
A crisis that builds from DEFCON 5 to DEFCON 1, each level clearing more weapons. Industry, oil and uranium, strategic sites to take, bases to build. Raise battalions, build tanks and artillery, send fighters, attack aircraft, bombers and drones, build a shipyard and its fleet: destroyers, cruisers, battleships, missile ships, submarines, carriers. Select and give orders with a finger. Or watch two AIs wage a full war.

THE LIVING WORLD
Two to eight nations on untouched land, each with its own name, tongue and ruler. They found towns that grow district by district, live off their food, wood, ore, oil and uranium, govern with their ministers, lay railways, trade, make alliances, go through crises and fight real wars: mobilisation, fronts, trenches, supply, landings, war fleets, peace treaties. Their towns judge their rulers: leaders, uprisings, coups, revolutions, dynasties. Industrial, atomic and orbital eras; the bomb leaves dead land and a nuclear winter. Every system can be turned on or off in the rules of the world, and you choose which units, defences and weapons the nations may use. Watch, or play god: volcano, tsunami, meteor, found a nation, stir up a province, change a ruler's temper, ring for war or for peace.

• 16 weapons: tactical salvo, cluster munitions, napalm, thermobaric, hypersonic glider, ICBM, MIRV, bunker buster, neutron bomb, EMP, Tsar Bomba, tungsten rod, orbital beam, antimatter, black hole, tectonic quake.
• Destruction you can read: blast fronts that knock buildings over, craters, districts on fire, flattened forests, sinking ships.
• Nine maps (island, archipelago, valley, desert, arctic, continents, inner sea, thousand isles, coast and isles) in five sizes, up to 24 km across.

ECONOMY AND LOGISTICS
Farms, sawmills, mines, oil wells and uranium mines on real deposits; steelworks, refineries, munitions and arms factories, enrichment plants: a nation that owns its production chain pays half price for its weapons, and one that loses it pays double. Trucks, warehouses, double-track railways with stations, viaducts and tunnels, shipping lines: blow up a bridge or sink a tanker and the goods are lost. A Logistics map shows what is well linked.

THE SOUND
Real recorded sounds, air-raid sirens, blasts that arrive at the speed of sound, ambience that follows the camera and music that follows the tension. Best with headphones.

Plays offline. Free, with the Full Arsenal as a one-time purchase: neutron bomb, Tsar Bomba, antimatter, black hole and the other wildest weapons, for good.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.6.0 — 2026-10-17

NEW: A REAL MAC VERSION
On a Mac, M.A.D. opens in a window of its own, resizable and full screen, with a computer's settings: smoother and shaped to your screen. The Full Arsenal bought on iPhone or iPad comes with you.

PLAY A NATION, IN FULL
- Build everything the AI builds: depot, headquarters, port, shipyard, oil platform, fish farm, small farm.
- Lay your own railway from your towns, as the nations lay theirs.
- Work the wild land just past the border and found colonies across the sea.
- Diplomacy from a nation's card: peace on the score's terms, a crisis defused, pacts, disarmament accords.
- The building follows the cursor as a green or red hologram, the wheel turns it; its card tells what the next level brings.
- The buttons' costs are clear: a line a resource, its colour and its name.

BRIDGES AND VIADUCTS
Rail lines cross the ravines on viaducts, stone in the industrial age and concrete after, built bay by bay, chosen against earthworks and the way round by their price. A strike brings bays down, the mending raises them again.

RAIL AT THE BORDERS
Each stretch belongs to the nation whose land it crosses, nations that agree run on each other's track, two neighbours can lay a joint line where each pays its part, a stretch linked to nothing is taken up. No more doubled lines side by side.

AFTER THE BOMBS
A crater takes the railway and the streets with it, the roads go round it at once: no more trains or lorries under a crater's water. Small pockets of land left far from any town are given up.

AND ALSO
- Adjustable view distance (60, 100 or 150 km): the big maps no longer stop short at the horizon.
- A loading bar at start.
- The pause menu redone like the main menu, the resources map's legend, nation names easier to read, borders without bright patches.

### 1.5.0 — 2026-10-16

The game's biggest update yet: play a nation, cinematic explosions, a much faster engine and a new menu.

NEW
• Play a nation: take the hand of a nation in the Living world, and give it back to the AI whenever you like.
• Your government: budgets by ministry, taxes, head of state, wars and coalitions proposed; your ministers bring you proposals and advice.
• Build it yourself: a build bar and guided placement. Improve or demolish your buildings.
• Command your war: select your troops and give orders, air missions, missiles and strikes, your fleet, buying units. Your generals back you up and never take your units.
• Cinematic explosions: mushroom clouds in volume lit by the sun, a boiling fireball, sculpted smoke, a cloud rolling over the ground. Graphics setting "Explosions": Auto, Cinema or Classic (lighter).
• Up close: warships, tanks and soldiers take detailed models near the camera. Shells raise columns of water, a ship burns where it was hit and sinks burning.
• Follow camera: it follows the selected unit, an aircraft or the latest missile.
• New menu: the maps previewed, the modes at a glance, the settings in a drawer.
• Keyboard and mouse (iPad with a keyboard): every control can be set in the Pause.
• War mode: oil platforms at sea are taken by warships and count in the score.
• Railways: lines join the network on real turnouts.
• Notifications: filters by category, important news stays on top.

IMPROVED
• Optimized engine: a much higher frame rate, with nothing lost on screen.
• The camera pulls back further on the big maps.

FIXED
• Armies cross bridges; viaducts no longer start inside a tunnel.
• A crash after a long press fixed.
• The tutorial no longer comes back at every game.
• If the 3D view cannot start, the game says why and what to do.
• At sea by a rock, deep water is no longer taken for land.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-10-15

You asked for it: a tutorial, graphics your way and clearer menus.

NEW
• First steps: a short tutorial the first time you start each mode (Duel, War, Living world). It points at the real buttons, moves on when you do the thing, skips in one tap and replays from the menus. A warning shows when you aim at your own side.
• Graphics: Low, Medium, High and Ultra presets, and fixed resolutions from pixel art to high definition, right on the main menu.
• Living world: declare war between two chosen nations, from the nation's card or with the new Declare power.
• Markers over the troops, in each nation's colour, to find the armies from afar.
• War mode: the units sorted into three tabs (Army, Aircraft, Fleet), capped buildings show their count (1/5) and every upgrade says what it brings.
• The game's Discord, one tap away in the menus.

FIXED
• The "Nuclear weapons" rule now holds at every DEFCON level, and takes the EMP away too, in every mode.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-10-12

M.A.D. has a real name: Doomsday: M.A.D. And you asked for it: aim zones and tool strength.

NEW
• Zone and strength: salvos, cluster munitions and MIRVs from 30% to 150% of their spread (tight on a building or wide over a district); terrain brushes from 50 to 400 m and up to four times as fast; tsunamis from a ripple to a devastating wave. Two sliders beside FIRE.
• Flatten: the ground levels to the height where you started. Start on a coast and sweep out to sea: a flat island rises, and a nation can be born on it.
• Supply chains: oil and uranium deposits, steelworks, refineries, munitions and arms factories, warehouses. A works far from the roads produces less; a destroyed bridge or a cut road hurts production. A new Logistics map.

FIXED
• Railways go round mountains instead of cutting them in two, and streets give way when the ground under them becomes too steep.
• Works no longer needed are converted instead of standing idle.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-10-09

The biggest update since launch: railways, living politics, and the full navy and air force.

THE LIVING WORLD
• Railways: from the industrial age, nations lay double-track lines with stations, viaducts and freight trains. Their armies take the train.
• Supply: far from its stations, depots and headquarters, an army slows down, fires less and cannot refit. It eats its nation's food, munitions and fuel: run short and it wears away. The stations behind the front become targets.
• Living politics: every town judges its rulers and says why. Leaders, networks, informers, purges, uprisings, coups, exiles founding free towns. New power: Agitator.
• Regimes (monarchies, republics and their elections, juntas), rulers marked by their reign, taxes.
• History: dynasties, renown, mottoes and banners, a chronicle by kind, feats kept from one game to the next.
• Ages of the world (golden age, dark years, the Great Fear), industrial disasters, disarmament conferences.
• Several wars at once: the one you watch is fought unit by unit, the others on the map. A world map with the fronts.
• Culture, diplomacy, politics and opinion maps.
• The distance between towns can be set, even during a game.

AT SEA
• Attack and missile submarines, sonar and depth charges.
• Weapon ranges (rockets 4 km, silo missiles 12 km) and port blockades.
• Aircraft carriers: an airfield at sea, with its fighters and attack aircraft.
• Shipping lines, a ship for each kind of load, pleasure boats, wakes.

IN THE AIR
• Ground attack aircraft: they support the front with rockets and gun on tanks and battalions.
• Aircraft ranges, fighter escorts, gun dogfights.

AND ALSO
• Every menu option explained, menus redone for phones, a clearer war bill, loading without freezes.
• Big wars sound right again: no more crackles or cut-outs.
