### 1/5 — Not good

*2026-05-08*

Needs a lot of work, seen better alternatives. Profit driven companies are taking over the school industry, applications like Doorman are slowly turning school toward profitability instead of learning. Fun. “Private company”, no info shared etc, but the company who actually owns doorman does not have a privacy policy on their page. Fun.

**Developer response:** Hi there, we appreciate you raising this concern about privacy. To clarify, we have a privacy policy that is clearly disclosed on both our app and website. Student data privacy is our absolute top priority and our mission is to help schools create a focused learning environment while teaching responsible technology use. To be clear: Doorman uses end-to-end encryption to protect student data and cannot view messages, photos, or browsing history. We can not and do not sell any data. We would love to hear more about your experience and any other feedback you have so we can improve as an app. Please reach out to us at hello@doorman.school.

### 1/5 — Pretty Flawed

*2026-05-08*

All this app is doing is just getting your data. Data that can be hacked by hackers and sold off to people. Just let the F students be F students and care about the people that focus. Especially since it’s an invasion of privacy because why are 10 administrators looking if I deleted the app or tracking me?

### 1/5 — I am a student

*2026-05-07*

And this is an invasion why can my school still block certain websites after school?? Weird

**Developer response:** Hi there, we're sorry to hear you are dealing with website restrictions after school hours. Doorman is designed with privacy-first and to only restrict access only during the schedule set by your school. We have features in place like auto-unlock, which can be configured by your administrators. Otherwise, you can always unlock from within the app once you are done with your classes or school day, depending on your school's policy. Please reach out to us at hello@doorman.school for more troubleshooting help.

### 1/5 — Doorman

*2026-05-07*

This app is very bad can’t even text my son to see if there emergency I do not recommend using this app

### 1/5 — worst app ever.

*2026-05-07*

this app does not work at all and is very risky to download.
One of my friends got a big virus on her phone and got her information leaked. Schools should never allow students to download this app because they can get sued.
As a bonus, this app does not work at all and allows all students to go on apps but some student’s phone does work but allows them to message and call for emergencies. There is also a countdown on your phone that is false. PARENTS, DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP!!

### 1/5 — THIS APP IS NOT SECURE

*2026-05-06*

The CEO came in to talk to is about the app. Apparently, they didn’t do third part security testing. This means they could be putting students data in danger since there will be vulnerabilities in their system.

**Developer response:** Hi there, thank you for raising this important concern about student data security. We want to assure you that protecting student privacy is fundamental to our mission. Doorman uses end-to-end encryption to protect student data and cannot view messages, photos, or browsing history. The only data we collect is what's needed for login and policy enforcement, and it is never sold or shared. We have legally binding agreements with the Student Data Privacy Consortium and other organizations to prevent data abuse, and Doorman also passed Apple's own rigorous review. Please reach out to hello@doorman.school if you have any more questions.

### 1/5 — TOOK ALL OF MY CHILDS DATA FOR THE SAFETLY OF YOUR KIDS DONT LET THEM DOWNLOAD THIS

*2026-05-05*

As a mom of 2 my oldest daughters school forced this app on them, at first I was happy because I do want my kid to focus on school more and I thought this would be great specially for teenagers now since they are always on their phone. After couple weeks later my daughter comes to me saying that there’s been rumors going around that the app is supposedly taking data and stuff, I told her that it was fake and that it’s probably just kids saying stuff to say it but when I saw what my husband that works in that kind of stuff look at her data on her phone and what’s being used when we don’t know I immediately change my mind about the app, this app is not safe for the sake of your kids privacy don’t allow them to download it.

### 1/5 — Terrible!!

*2026-05-05*

This app was implemented in my child’s school and after a day my daughters phone was glitching telling her that a virus was a installed. THIS APP STOLE ALL OF MY DATA AND INFORMATION THAT I HAVE ON THIS PHONE. We had to report to the police station because the app was threatening us if we did anything that would stop them from taking our information they were gonna hurt us.

### 1/5 — SAFETY ISSUE!!!!

*2026-05-05*

I just found out my child is being forced to use this “Doorman” app at school, and honestly, I’m beyond disturbed.

As a father, I need to know my child can reach me at any moment if something goes wrong. That’s not negotiable. But this app? It basically locks their phone down during the day, and I have ZERO control over it. I didn’t download it, I didn’t approve it, and yet somehow it’s interfering with my ability to communicate with my own kid.

What happens in an emergency? What if they feel unsafe, scared, or something serious is happening and they can’t get through to me? The thought of my child being stuck in a situation where they can’t call for help is honestly terrifying. I don’t care what the intention is—no school or app should be able to override that basic line of communication between a parent and their child.

And from what I’ve heard, it’s not even reliable. It glitches, it locks things randomly, and there’s no clear way for parents to understand what’s actually being blocked or when. So now I’m supposed to just trust that this thing works perfectly… while also knowing it might not? That’s not reassuring—that’s stressful.

I understand schools want fewer distractions, but this feels like a massive overreach. There has to be a better way to manage phone use without completely cutting parents out of the picture.

Right now, this app doesn’t make me feel like my child is more focused—it makes me feel like they’re less safe.

### 1/5 — Buns

*2026-04-03, version 0.22.1*

This app isn’t even worth the one star fr, it’s straight butt and there should be no reason why I can’t text my mom especially if it’s an emergency

### 1/5 — Blocks your signal

*2026-03-16*

It pauses your signal and makes your phone’s battery drain

### 1/5 — Bro this app sucks

### 1/5 — not good

*2026-02-18, version 0.18.1*

I hate this app

### 1/5 — Bad door man app

*2026-02-18*

Malfunctions all of the time and should allow search engines

**Developer response:** Hi Ethan, Doorman is always improving and we want to hear about what went wrong with the specific malfunctions you experienced. Regarding search engines: your school is in control of what you are allowed to access when restrictions are active. If you have any specific feedback, feel free to reach out to us at hello@doorman.school.

### 1/5 — Works stupid

*2026-02-09, version 0.17.4*

Working so bad

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — SPYWARE: A rant about doorman’s ignorance

*2026-08-31*

Spyware is defined by any app that monitors what you do nonconsentually TECHNICALLY doorman doesn’t do this however with the fact that in any school it’s in it is FORCED or you are at risk of punishment the fact it blocks your ability to use your phone in any way shape or form in class unless you press a button that notifies a teacher that you are turning it off which in most situations will get you in trouble and the fact it makes APPLE MESSAGES unusable it might as well be I am a student from WHS whom is a part of the terrible experience of doorman this app is pure spyware and I do not feel comfortable with having school apps on my phone in case of a school wide data breach however I am now forced to download one that I already dislike including all the things i already said about this app it’s also just an ignorant idea the whole point of a cell phone is to be able to contact people I understand in the sense of they don’t want you using your phone in class however this solution only will make students more angry (know I am) and now with school starting back again I’m forced to redownload it no app should make basic texting not possible I’d understand more if it didn’t but until I can text my mom normally without having to notify a teacher or risk getting in trouble for it this is a disgusting app the only reason I’m giving 5 stars is so it gets pushed to the top to be read STAY AWAY FROM DOORMAN IF YOU LOVE YOUR PHONE

### 1/5 — The app

*2026-08-27*

I can’t turn off my phone which makes my phone go from 100 to 50. I think I should be able to turn off phone. My battery might explode from using this to much

### 1/5 — ruined my phone

*2026-08-26*

After only 2 days of using this app anytime it would unlock at the end of the day my battery would be drained and my phone overheats to the point it makes my hand burn and i never had this issue before using the app.(i have an iphone 15 pro)

### 1/5 — My opinion

*2026-08-25*

I’m a student at shaker heights high school and I just want to say this app is dumb. first, the students reported that it doesn’t work and app drained my battery and I didn’t even touch it and usually my phone doesn’t do that.

### 1/5 — Stupid

*2026-08-25*

Take this off. What if students have emergencies. Because the emergency unlock notifies the teachers making them question and get in trouble

### 1/5 — Not reliable

*2026-08-19*

Constantly having to update the app and doesn’t work very well with no wifi even with high cellular data.

### 1/5 — Bad app

*2026-08-19*

My school is implementing this app and it drains my battery from my phone at a very high rate, which cause me to be unable to use my phone after school when I’m not on school time because it is dead.

### 1/5 — That is butt

*2026-06-08, version 0.26.3*

It don’t even work bro

### 1/5 — I can’t install it!!!!

*2026-05-26*

I’m absolutely furious with this app. It won’t let me install it at all—it’s completely incompatible with my phone. And now, because of this, I have to hand in my phone at school—something I never wanted, and I can’t even use my own device. This is unacceptable.

**Developer response:** Hi there, we're sorry to hear that you are having issues with installing the app. Doorman is designed as a tool to help schools enforce cell phone policies. The app supports devices running from iOS 16 and onward. If your device is older than that, it would not be compatible with Doorman and you would need to follow your administration's direction on how to otherwise comply with your school's cell phone policy.

### 1/5 — gave me cancer

*2026-05-09*

I installed this app then suddenly my body started weird. My body began by contorting in peculiar ways and growing tumors on my balls. I am severely disappointed by this since now i have mutated fingers and cant goon to futa. i will be uninstalling.

## Most praised reviews (4 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — It is good

*2026-03-05*

I can sign in. And I like it

### 5/5 — Really Good!

*2026-02-11*

It help students actually limit their distractions.

### 4/5 — Not THAT bad

*2026-01-30*

I’m one of many students under doorman. And it’s truly not that bad. Something seen commonly in reviews of this app are security concerns, but frankly society media platforms carry a much more weighted security risk. Either way, the app functions as intended, it locks your phone annoys you but in the end prevents the need to have it physically taken. Plus the ability to utilize your phone during passing periods is extremely valuable. It even has an emergency unlock providing security to the safety concerns often addressed. That being said, it glitches and makes it difficult to unlock/lock in, or messes with your phone occasionally. Even without it being in beta one large criticism me and many others have is: it doesn’t automatically unlock. When going into passing periods you have to manually unlock, when leaving school you have to manually unlock. If you forget then you may be in a situation where after school you go to a club, you forget to unlock your phone and when your parents text you, well, you simply don’t see it. So this is my inquiry to those who have created and can alter doorman, please consider automatic unlocking.

**Developer response:** Hi there! We appreciate the time you took in leaving this feedback for Doorman. We absolutely agree that the data collected by social media users are used in harmful ways, especially with students such as yourself. Regarding your criticism for automatic unlocking: we actually just implemented this! Please reach out to your local school administrator such that they can enable this feature. We invite you to share more feedback or suggestions by reaching out to hello@doorman.school.

### 2/5 — Not Ready For Use

*2026-01-22*

Good concept, but…
My school implemented this recently as a part of *attendance checks.* A glitchy app that is constantly malfunctioning and, for reasons unfathomable, is updated near-daily instead of grouping the dozens of tiny changes into at least monthly, larger updates. If your project is still an alpha, no shame in that. But for the love of muffins, do not inflict your underbaked beignets on hundreds of undeserving strangers.

**Developer response:** Hi there! Thank you for your feedback. To provide some context, we were providing near-daily updates because we actively improve the app based on every piece of feedback to deal with the very glitches that our users experience. As of the time of this reply, our update interval has already become less frequent. Over the past few months, we’ve made significant improvements and we’d be honored if you could update your review to capture your recent experience using Doorman. Feel free to tell us more at hello@doorman.school.
