I love the stories. I love how you can interact with the characters of the voice acting. I wish there was a easier way to get the hearts. I wouldn’t even mind having to watch a few adds to get some. I hate missing out on opportunities during the stories by not having hearts. However I have noticed that generative AI is being used and allowed by creators of stories and I think that is incredibly antithetical to the original ethos of this app. Which as for real artists + creatives to create enjoyable stories, stories and character from their brains and hands AND for these artists to get paid for their work/art. Not from a LLM that steals and plagiarizes from other artists and harms the earth. I will not pay money to these people who make ANY part of their stories with Generative Ai. Using Ai means that this is not solely their work. Even after submitting a support request, they confirmed that Ai usage IS ALLOWED “as long as it doesn’t go against guidelines”. I think that’s BS. When I first joined Dorian I remember their stance being that these are stories created by Real people, with real art and no Ai. What happened to that stance? ### 2/5 — My honest opinion - read before getting app *2026-06-28, version 3.75.2* I dont really use the app anymore, I really did like the stories, but there were a few things that bugged me, and made it so I stopped using it. I still wanted to write a review though. I read shark bait, slashfic, etc, I liked the stories (sometimes it was.. weird) and art. However, its always set from a female perspective... I am a guy, I really wish they had a pronoun/gender option for ALL stories. Not just like three stories that maybe one person reads. You cant really enjoy it free.. the stories are mostly flirting, and in a scene where its like "Do you kiss them?" Your options are "Yes - 10000 hearts" or "No I hate them I want to never see them again - free" which is a bit un enjoyable. Your options are: spend money and make out with whoever you want, or play free and say no to everything. Im broke, but Id love to support indie creators. A concern of mine is that generative AI is being used for some of the stories, either to help write them or for the art, sometimes its obvious, and sometimes I wondered if what I was reading was human made. I am an artist, I am actively against AI and I dont want to read something generated by machine. Its possible that the devs arent aware, or they dont care. Please fix this, or monitor whats on your app more. A smaller concern, but something that bothers me and probably others, as an autistic person, some things are mildly triggering, so have off buttons for features like haptics/vibrations, brighter colors, buttons covering the screen, idk, less overstimulating. Overall, the stories were okay, some were good. They feel like they are only made for the female perspective, and it has to be oddly freaky with most stories. I understand that it cant be entirely free, but for the love of all active users, make it more enjoyable, and easier to get hearts and gems or whatever. Not everyone can participate in events or log in every single day. I hope the app gets better, my overall experience wasnt bad, just occasionally boring. That is all. You have to pay for in game currency to pick any GOOD options in a story. The stories and art are creative, but they are incredibly boring to play when you’re forced to choose the worst option. Even if you were to buy the in game currency, it is stupidly expensive for a small amount. I would likely pay if it was a fair price, but I find it wasteful to pay 3 dollars for something that will only last me 3 episodes. ### 3/5 — Streaming *2026-06-24, version 3.75.2* A feature I loved about this game was getting to stream and participate in quizzes through the streams but the options are gone. This has ruined my experience and I know that many other people are also upset with this. I miss gaining hearts by winning the quizzes that people set up. I love getting to be a part of the story rather than just reading it and there’s something for just about anyone to enjoy because of the wide variety this app offers. The premium choices can be expensive but are necessary to support the creators so they can keep creating content; also the cost varies from one story to another and the vast majority of them are enjoyable even on a budget due to many creators allowing the use of sapphires instead of hearts for some premium choices. There are many opportunities to earn sapphires as well. Though I’d like to add that I appreciate when creators provide the option to pay once and unlock all or almost all of the premium options in a character’s route. One of my only complaints is that it can be too easy to accidentally spend hearts/sapphires. You guys aren’t listening to any of your other reviews and keep trying to throw them off with sapphires. That’s just a low blow in my opinion. And yes I get the indie developers need support but you can support them with ADDS. And they still get money. There are plenty of games where they give you the in game currency after watching a few adds them give you a timer until you can do it again. Frankly I haven’t even had this for an hour and it’s already pissing me off. Liked the characters and all but the lack of opportunity for the development of relationships with the characters is just horrible. Let me know when you actually do something about it. While reading an episode, the top of the screen constantly displays the Dorian logo, a semi-opaque navy blue gradient, a menu/replay button, and sometimes character point icons that seem to have little to no correlation to what’s happening in the story. Great to have a little menu at the top, but I am begging for it to be some sort of dropdown banner that you have to tap on for it to be visible. ESPECIALLY the gradient. The gradient is honestly the worst part of this for me. Having the gradient and the watermark be visible 100% of the time is kind of immersion breaking and sometimes gets in the way of in-game visuals like full-screen artwork. 2.) Is there a cooldown on tapping through dialogue? It seems like you can only click through so fast, like just barely faster than once per second. Inconvenient if you’re a fast reader or if you’re trying to quickly skim through something during a replay. I can’t tell if that’s intentional or if it’s just a loading speed thing, but I feel like it actually harms replayability potential. 3.) Speaking of the click-through mechanics, the recent addition of a vibration every single time you click is driving me nuts. I know you can turn that off in the settings, but it doesn’t seem to stick. I have to go back into settings and re-turn it off every single time I open the app. 4.) The custom avatar upload feature is weird. Any image that you put in gets mirrored in the game, so you have to put it in backwards for it to appear in the orientation you want. A minor inconvenience since I personally don’t really use that feature, but still noticeable. 5.) App icon is of one specific story instead of the Dorian logo, and that’s kind of strange. Are the creators of Slashfic official Dorian employees rather than just indie creators? Are they paying to be the app icon? Are YOU paying THEM to be the app icon? I know Slashfic is sort of the face of Dorian right now and that Shark Bait was in that spot in the past, but why does that involve making them the cover of the app? Idk I suppose I just don’t get it. It’d be nice to have a consistent app icon of the Dorian logo instead of two random characters making out. Now, this part isn’t a design thing, just a general concern: Why is there SO MUCH ai generated content on this app? Are there any restrictions or screenings for ai content? Or is it outright encouraged? Because very frequently, games that are chock full of obvious ai art get promoted via the sapphire giveaways, and I wouldn’t be surprised if some creators were using ai to write their games too. If Dorian devs haven’t looked into the impact of ai on the creative industry PLEASE do so.
