"Dot's Home" is a single-player, 2D, narrative-driven video game that follows a young Black woman in Detroit living in her grandmother’s beloved home, as she travels through time to relive key moments in her family’s history where race, place, and home collide in difficult choices. I don't understand *how* I’m supposed to do things and it kinda’ annoys me. How hard would it be to include very precise instructions? I understand what’s supposed to happen but have no idea how. This game gives me a brief look at some of the characters, a key being pulled from a pocket, a pathway, Grandma … I click on “new game” and go nowhere. Oh well. The story has a lot of history and shows struggles that Black and Brown people have been through and continue to go through. While the game off to a great start, the gameplay is boring. There’s no purpose of the backpack items. You aren’t able to examine the deed. The dialogue doesn’t change regardless of your choices. ### 5/5 — Cute game with some heart wrenching choices! *2025-05-24, version 1.5* The pacing is a little slow and this is definitely more of an interactive story than a choices matter video game. But I love it! For being a free story based game, it’s very fun! A couple story choices made me actually pause the game to think about it. It deals with the issues of housing and race in nuanced and complex ways.
