Unfortunately if you don’t go through the perfect sequence of events to set it up with the proper angle view and the proper formatting, and then the proper resolution inevitably it crashes mid filming and you lose everything. Unfortunately the audio sync is consistently off. For example the front facing camera has a couple new options including center stage. My hope was that I could record landscape and portrait at the same time, enabling me to produce both orientations with one shot. The app kept crashing and when it crashed it didn’t record ANY of the current clip and it didn’t keep its settings so I’m the middle of a fast paced football game I was restarting the app, changing the resolution and frame rate and deselecting which cameras I wanted. And… it would crash a few shots later. I used to be a dedicated filmic pro user. I even won some awards using their app. But then that got so buggy I couldn’t use it anymore. I had hoped that getting the latest phone would fix my problems but alas. Definitely not worth the subscription. It does exactly what it promises, and when it works, it’s an invaluable asset for capturing high-quality footage. Unfortunately, version 3.1.2 has been extremely buggy on my iPhone 13 Pro Max running iOS 18.4. The app crashes frequently without warning. More frustratingly, there have been multiple occasions where I recorded a video only to find that the file was never saved — completely missing the moment I was trying to capture. I genuinely hope these issues are addressed in an upcoming update, as the app has great potential when stable. ⸻ Let me know if you’d like a shorter or more casual version as well. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — No longer opens on iPhone 14 Pro *2026-08-29, version 3.1.2* DO NOT PURCHASE! I use it to tell stories of my video adventures for visiting lighthouses on the west coast of the US. It worked great on my past iPhone 11 Pro and now on my 13 Pro, it’s even better. I wish it would shoot in a higher res, I’d pay for that, but I worry that it will be changing soon. It seems the Filmic app has sold to a horrible company that is making it a super expensive subscription service, pricing out the amateur videographers, like myself. I am hoping that they leave this app alone and not include it, but I am sure that their greed will eventually charge for it. I’ve downloaded all of my files as it said to use it I had to update it, and on 12/1, the new terms of service go into effect, so I don’t want to lose access to what I’ve filmed.
