Symptoms of neglect include: A near-total lack of in-game events, previously frequent A total absence of communication to the players No updates, not even minor bug fixes Failure to respond to player reports of account problems A steady decline in player population, compounded by failure to consolidate near-empty servers or make any effort to attract new players. This is a bit of a shame, as the game itself is above average for the genre, with several distinctive features. However, for all the attention Ember is giving the game, you could not tell that the company is still in business. ### 2/5 — Atrocious customer support *2018-09-22, version 1.6.0* Ember is the worst game developer in the industry. The reason i give at least 2 stars is that i love the game & the people who play, it is a family atmosphere with lots of joking & conversation. The problem is the horrid treatment we receive from “support”. I send constant requests for maintenance- most of which go unanswered, or i get conflicting responses (none of which worked). The game crashes at critical moments causing people to lose everything- there is minimal compensation provided & there have been no updates or new content since spring (seriously we still have to look at the “spring ahead package”). Most of us have decided to boycott future spending until Ember does something to restore the losses of people due to their server crashing, perform regular maintenance & provide new content to show us that there is some sort of investment in the future of this game. Sadly, that is not likely to happen. ### 2/5 — Was a good game *2018-09-21, version 1.6.0* This started out as a fun and good game. It was slowly went down the hill this year. Ember has stopped updating the game, they stopped sending event messages for the weekend (so we don’t know what events are going on), they have a ton of bugs that they have acknowledged but said won’t be fixed, they crash the game during war events (then hours later it comes back online just to find that you’ve been attacked and zeroed because you could not get online to shield due to their game crash), they ignore your support messages to them (outright closes the support case without a response), and the list goes on. The regions are also completely dead. They changed how you grow and made it money based instead of putting in the work. They screwed over the free players drastically when doing so. The free players were once able to compete in the PvP portion of the game with spenders as spenders had to work at ranking up. They just couldn’t buy their way. Now they can buy their way into whatever they want, this crushing the free players and anyone else. Now unless you are dropping hundreds of dollars a week, you are nothing. You can’t even compete without spending money now. It’s sad especially when it used to be a mixed of free and money game play. Now it’s just money based. ### 2/5 — Support is finished for this high spend monstrosity *2018-09-20, version 1.6.0* Enjoyed graphics and general game play at first. Similar to most MMOs, high spend required to move beyond basic level. Groups quickly forming to run out new players and cyber bullying rampant. There is no way to protect assets that would allow you to advance, for more than a few hours. People outside the top guilds quickly become farms for others. A few high spend players become so dominant because you can’t effectively team up on them, and with little defensive choices, it’s tough to enjoy. Last update was months ago and server downtime is prevalent. No realm v realm play makes it a tired cycle on a limited board. Doesn’t look like they will be upgrading the game and have moved on to other projects outside basic support. ### 3/5 — Not for kids *2018-09-08, version 1.6.0* Another Ember screw up. Most weekend events have server outages. Today is another one. Easy to see why people are filing complaints and getting their money refunded. Also, definitely not a kid friendly game. Has a fun interface and there is always something to do or attack, by the language in realm chat is off putting. From homophobic slurs to sexual talk, degrading talk to others is ruining the game. The developer seems to not care. If you report anyone for blatant offending talk, they don’t even respond. I understand it’s a war game, but the rating should be changed to reflect what the developer allows. It’s a shame in a time where everyone comes under fire for much less, ember doesn’t seem to care about issues far worse being said. Sad commentary on the developer and the only reason the game lost two stars in my opinion. ### 2/5 — Ember has moved on *2018-08-18, version 1.6.0* This game is dying. In game support is non-existent, there hasn’t been an update in months, the lag makes kill events unbearable, Ember has stopped sending realm news... obviously they are working on another project. It had potential when we thought they were working on issues, but it’s an ignored garden full of weeds and bugs! The realms are rapidly dying, evident in lack of participation in events. Bullies pay to get stronger, new players are run off... At least open the realms so those of us who enjoy the people can play out our final levels in the shadow of what this game might have been. ### 2/5 — Once fun however... *2018-08-18, version 1.6.0* The game itself while enjoyable has serious lag issues that will get your army destroyed while you close the app and reopen it. Asking for customer support is laughable and most goes without an answer. If you are lucky, perhaps you will get a generic auto reply of the your issue is being looked at for future upgrades. Of course it has been several months since the last app update. It seems this game has been forgotten about by the developers. ### 2/5 — 177 days later... *2018-05-05, version 1.4.9* After almost 6 months, and making it 124 days before one of “special buys” actually seemed worth it, I almost completely regret not giving up on the game months ago. On the plus side, my $5 didn’t entire go to Ember Entertainment, but back in January (around 80-90 days in) I considered quitting and I decided to hang around and enjoy what I could. While other realms may be “better” than where I was, the game definitely caters towards rewarding those willing to spend, and spend, and spend. While you can remain free to play, you are looking at upwards of 350,000 gems (earned at up to 100 per event every 6 hours) simply to purchase the items required for structural building upgrades, and a single “level 24 building upgrade” that is awarded once per ‘month’ based on sequential logins would also severely limit the ability for a free to play customer being able to max out their structures, if they managed to get the other required gems, first. If you don’t mind being borderline abused, or are looking to be [not so] micro transactioned, with $5-$100 (non-‘starter’) options available, for (hopefully?) months to come- it definitely could be the game for you. For me, I’d much rather would have not invested upwards of 800 hours for the relative lack of enjoyment I got out of it for “most” of my time I spent in the game. ### 2/5 — Many bugs! *2018-04-10, version 1.4.8* I wish ember would just face the facts and just completely copy igg's game lords mobile, it would make this game much better other then the bugs. The bugs in this game are so severe it almost makes this game unplayable. About every 10 minutes or when there is to much going on in game for it to handle it force closes. So even try and attack someone the game will shut down and you will lose everything from a counter attack! ### 1/5 — Poor game, don’t waste your time. *2018-04-04, version 1.4.8* Not sure how this game is getting a 4.5 star rating. First, realm chat is a bullyfest with no accountability or control by ember. Don’t let your kid play this game, older teens and up are ok if you like trash talk. Game is slow and buggy... get kicked out regularly. Biggest complaint is that you cannot enjoy or be successful without spending a lot of money. I have played several Ember games and this is by far their worst one. Save yourself a lot of frustration and pain... don’t play it. ### 1/5 — LACK of Parity-Developer’s response *2018-03-21, version 1.4.6* I have played this game for over 4 months now. The game is beautiful, the gameplay is worth it. I even dropped maybe close to $75 or more now for this game-the equivalent of a console game nowadays. Sadly, Ember missed out on the fair play for this game and my realm is completely run by bullies, trolls, and the like because they spent more money than anyone else. This is NOT A CASUAL GAME. What is considered an acceptable attack varies depending on who is in power. Ember does not interfere in the politics of each Realm. Please move on and spend your hard earned money elsewhere ### 1/5 — Too lopsided *2018-03-19, version 1.4.6* This game is not structured very well. Those who pay to play are always ahead and you can be way less in strength and they can come through and squash you like a bug setting you back days or weeks in materials. The high level players just like to harass people and bully them not allowing anyone else to build up. Sure its a war game but if you cant even farm then there is no point in playing. ### 1/5 — Disgusted *2018-03-19, version 1.4.6* This is a 0 Star. Any level player can attack any other player. Which means a level 50 player can attack a level 1 player and crush them repeatedly. It takes so long to recover from being attacked that you can be attacked again and have nothing to defend against. It does not matter anyway, because they are vastly more powerful anyway. You can’t even hurt them. Armies take too long to heal or train. Trap take too long to repair or build. So again, you can be attacked repeatedly which will effectively prevent you from playing the game. If you spend lots of money you can put shields on yourself, but, you’d have to do that every single time you get attacked because it’ll take so long to recover that you’ll just get attacked again. It takes too long to craft. It takes too long to collect materials. Etc etc etc it just goes on and on. Pathetic game developers. Please stop making crap pay to win games. ### 2/5 — Good concept poor balance *2018-03-11, version 1.4.6* Could be a fun but you quickly get to a point where players at much higher levels destroy your units and capture your resources which means you can’t improve without rebuilding and regathering resources. There is a shield but it quickly gets too expensive to use as is most of the packages offered to help you develop. Unless your willing to spend mega bucks on the game don’t waste your time. ### 1/5 — Dragonstone Kingdoms *2018-03-01, version 1.4.1* Things I have noticed about the game. First if you spend money on the game you are automatically a high priority target by a group of "guilds" who are there to harass you. They make sure you can not change realms past a certain base level. They make sure you are kicked from any guilds that the leaders are apart of the brotherhood of cyber bullies who call it a waring game and that's what you're suppose to do. The events are rigged for competitive players to spend money which all they have to do is put an A.I. To control event winnings. Over all this game is designed for competitive players who have money and like winning. There are multiple guilds that are in on controlling the events winnings. When I first started playing no one had more then 1 million might. So I payed some money to boost my base and noticed that other guilds might went up exponentially in comparison with mine. So I highly recommend you do not spend any money and play with only friends you know. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. If you don’t want to spend tons of money, STAY AWAY! The game is incredibly unbalanced, where someone who does spend tons of money can attack and set you back weeks, it’s just not worth it. If you like games that go okay for the most part but then you spend weeks completely frustrated, this game is for you. ### 1/5 — PvP is rather ridiculous and inane *2018-02-18, version 1.4.1* The game overall can be pretty fun. Leveling heroes and progression through the adventure campaign is satisfying and fun. However, other players who are significantly higher in level can attack you and take your resources whenever they want. This weekend I’ve been raided 4 times by players I have no chance against so I never have any stockpile of a critical resource. It’s very frustrating and demotivating for what otherwise is a fun game. ### 3/5 — Could be great....but *2018-02-12, version 1.4.1* Ok so this is a really good game, great graphics and I would recommend it except that it CRASHES CONSTANTLY!!! Haven't been able to get into my guild since I joined since every time I tap on guild messages, the game crashes, who knows how many guild gifts I've missed or even if my guild is in tact. The developers need to manage memory better since I'm thinking bad memory management is what's causing the game to crash. Also crashes when fighting many dungeons, mostly boss levels. Frustrating because this could be a really good game. So I've had to delete the game unfortunately. Crashes happening on armor and weapon levels that you need to evolve your items. Ember has clearly abandoned this game for other things. No support, no updates, nothing. Yep, just another dead game. Was good, but now it slowly fades away into nothing. Apple, clear this one from the store, it’s clearly dead and wasting space. Those that want to still play without the “bullies”, jump to Realm 5. Players there still trying to make it fun. ### 1/5 — Ember WHATS YOUR EXCUSE *2019-03-02, version 1.6.0* I’ve played this game for long time at the beginning updates and new stuff came out now it’s nothing no ember mail for months the people don’t even answer support took two weeks to answer some in my guild and we all had to send mail to help him they answered someone else after 2 days make the game better add a new realm where everyone is invited make it fun ### 1/5 — Disappointed *2018-11-16, version 1.6.0* I have been playing this game for almost a full year now... Ember promises updates earlier this year and so far nothing. Only things that they want is your money. There are many who’ve been on the game for a very long time and many have quit because of nothing new to do like the realm vs realm. The alter or the market with the goods exchange, which btw has been there since day 1. As well as the alter. IMO not worth it if no updates are coming and always get standard computer response from them. ### 1/5 — Fun start with lots of wasted potential. *2018-07-17, version 1.6.0* Played for months, played for fun. It takes a while to realize how much this game is geared towards offense and weekly events that destroy players and the progress of their cities and armies across each realm. There is no way to defend against the bigger players. There is one resource ‘elixir’ that you can’t protect other players from stealing and zeroing you out. Impossible to grow without elixir to help. Very little instruction on how to play when you start the game. Just have to hope other players fill you in or land in a good guild that is willing to help. Lots of ‘coming soon!’ Listed on some city items( like the altar). Played for months, message never changed. Random server maintenance with little warning. Starting to see a toxic player base, and lots of bullying. I want a game that is fun. The fun ran out, so time for me to delete this game. ### 1/5 — Horable recovery time *2018-07-07, version 1.6.0* So it takes for ever to build a army, then one day some one just wiped your three weeks of work out with in seconds just because you were 10 minutes late from shielding and it takes for ever to get going again. Pointless game not much better than the ones that wipe you out completely. ASAP! ### 1/5 — No defense, poor customer service *2018-06-09, version 1.6.0* The game has no limits on who can attack who in this game, so if you decide to play it be prepared to have players eight times larger than you wipe you out almost immediately. Ember does nothing to prevent this because these are usually the players that spend money in the game. All of the emphasis is put on attack, so even when getting attacked by someone nearly the same size as you, your entire town will be wiped out and take days to rebuild. You will rarely get a chance to do this with how easy it is for the large, money spending players to destroy you. Most of the discussion in these games goes well beyond competitive banter and instead is rude, vile and cruel. You can report these individuals but Ember does nothing about it. Their response is that you can block them, which basically renders the game silent. Overall I’m disappointed that Ember seems to keep a structure and service that supports only those that spend money on the game. Don’t bother playing unless you have a lot to spend. ### 1/5 — Dragonstone bullies *2018-06-02, version 1.6.0* This game is run by ember and its employees. Yes they give out prizes but if you dare to to have any power you are hit over and over again . They bully you. The things that are said on realm chat are bad. If you ever told someone that in person you would be arrested. When you complain to ember they send you a form letter that is nothing to do with what you said . TERRIBLE GAME DO NOT PLAY OR WASTE YOUR MONEY. ### 1/5 — Ember fails again *2018-05-24, version 1.5.0* The game has serious server issues, which Ember ignores fixing in favor of providing more updates that require players to spend more money. New players are offered packs at $5 that existing players spent $30 on. In retrospect, I wouldn’t give them a penny. Additionally, the game lags horribly and you lose troops and/or resources. They do not bother rising these issues. They allow some of their own developers to play the game too, and they run the game as cyber bullies. It takes all the fun out of the game. ### 1/5 — Ember = Fail *2018-04-17, version 1.4.8* Once again, Ember has failed to create a game that has fair play in mind. Supercell has a success story due to the way fair play is built into their games. Clash of Clans does allow attacks upon weaker players however, the cost is less damage and less reward. Ember, on the other hand, creates games that promote a type of online bullying that could introduce a new form of offline retaliation that could rival some of the things we currently see in the news. My recommendation: save yourself the headache. Avoid Ember Entertainment unless you have, literally, thousands of dollars to spend and have a misplaced sense of superiority to fellow gamers and humanity. But if you feel like buying a new car, crashing it, repairing it, crashing it on the way home and repeating the whole process then, do that instead. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Awsome game, needs a few changes *2018-02-12, version 1.4.1* Really love this game, easy to play, auto battle is slow, wish it was instant, there are 4 heros locked unless your a money player which i find unfair to the majority of the community which is made up of us no pay players. Also think they should add a feature city invasion wise, where if a player in a guild is completely surrounded by other guild mates on all 8 positions that the players attacking the center city lose troops for each guild mate that player had to travel over to get to said specific city. But yes my biggest complaint is if you arent a pay to play player you will lose alot of pvp battles ### 5/5 — Fun so far *2018-01-26, version 1.4.0* So far the game is fun, it has a variety of things to do and the fight system is more involved than similar style games, I like it! It takes some of the best elements from all of them. And it’s balanced... you can still pay to win like the others but it doesn’t demand you pay $100 on day one like the others do. You can get pretty well started for a few $0.99 packages or just some time. ### 5/5 — Love it *2017-12-03, version 1.3.4* I’ve never been a big fan of games like this; building a city before defending it and attacking other cities.. I downloaded it because of the preview for Adventure Mode with the Final Fantasy-like combat, thinking it was some RPG with a storyline, and ended up falling in love with every bit of the game. I absolutely love it & how much there is to do. Not overwhelming in the least bit but will definitely keep you busy if you want to sit on your phone all day. Lots to do.. Good community.. Amazing overall. Ever since I’ve been playing I’ve been looking into Clash of Clans and Castle Clash, and it seems I downloaded the best one already. Dragonstone is the one you’re looking for. ### 5/5 — Fun game! *2017-11-28, version 1.3.3* I really like this game. You don’t have to pay, but it really helps if you do pay. If you want to be on top you have to pay, but I think it’s just as much fun playing without paying just to see how far you can get that way. The customer support is very fast and completely willing to help you with any bugs you encounter. There are constant updates to the game. Last but not least you would think raising dragons would be the most powerful in game since “Dragon” is in the name, but no.
