### 3/5 — Disappointed

*2026-03-11*

I used this app a lot but it has recently taken away some basic features and locked them behind a paywall. I do not want to pay 30$ or a have a subscription to keep using this app. Disappointing.

**Developer response:** Hi, thank you for your feedback — and for being a long-time user! We completely understand the frustration, and we want to make sure you have the full picture.

Here's a quick reminder of what's still free on DrawGestures:
• Session Mode — fully available with up to 100 images
• Drawing Mode — unlimited free drawing canvas with tracing support
• Device Libraries — use images from your photo gallery or local folders

The subscription unlocks premium features like our built-in cloud reference libraries, advanced practice tracking, and more. If you're unsure what changed or something isn't behaving as expected, we'd love to help sort it out. Feel free to reply here or reach out at support@drawgestures.com — we're happy to assist!

### 3/5 — Great App, but..

*2025-01-02*

This app is exactly what I was looking for. I do have one website I use online for references when drawing but this made it so much more easier and there’s so many image categories to choose from. I can practice drawing pretty much anything. I will say though, even though this is a great and there are lots of things to draw and practice, for some of the images they use seem like AI to me. Some artist may not want to support anything pertaining AI. Also for some pictures they use a lot of the same model, which, that’s fine, but beware of that if you want a lot of diversity.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. Please note that we do not use AI-generated images. All images are purchased directly from ArtStation. However, if you believe an image is AI-generated, feel free to report it. We will promptly review the report and either remove the image or clearly mark it as AI-generated, if applicable.

### 4/5 — Really love the brush that comes with this.

*2024-12-08*

yea and the pinterest thing

### 5/5 — Exactly what I was looking for

*2022-03-30*

This is an awesome app for quick gesture drawing or practicing any drawing really. The developers are actively improving the app and now include a reference gallery for you to use. You can even link your own Pinterest boards as reference.

My only request would be to create another layer similar to photoshop. I want to be able to draw some quick sketch lines and then draw over them with more refinement and turn off the sketch lines when finished.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. We will surely work on your request. 😊

### 5/5 — Good but needs to be better

*2022-01-23, version 1.2.7*

This app has potential of being the on one app every artist should own. With figure drawing, later anatomy, color practice. It lacks is better libraries, I don’t know if this is some appstore issue that dev can’t put nude libraries in or not but there is a need for that, other a simple artmodel book offers much more and better reference images. Second is, lack of a better brushes. Otherwise good, hope dev keeps bringing new updates for this to thrive

### 5/5 — Great App and very useful!

*2022-01-14, version 1.2.7*

It’s great app for improving your drawing. I really like that app already provides you with a bunch of useful references for practice figure drawing but also you can log in into Pinterest and use art references there.

### 5/5 — Exactly what I was looking for

*2021-10-24*

I’ve been looking all over for an app that lets me use my own reference images. It works great though I wish you could make custom sessions with different a mix of different times.
And being able to select image folders in your files would be nice.

**Developer response:** Thank you :). We will be adding more options soon.

### 4/5 — A great start with a lot of potential

*2021-09-17*

This app is great so far. The basic functionality does as expected.
What would win over my heart (5stars) would be if I could grab files from iCloud (by the folder would be 6 stars). I was able to pull in 50+ files and it was able to ingest and display them in a matter of seconds.

My wishlist to take this app from “👌🏾” to “🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩”

• Integrate cloud storage
• Mark photos as a favorite for later use
• Build a schedule (play x number of photos for x amount of time per photo, break for x amount of time, repeat, etc)
• Add break time between sessions that resume slideshow once done.

**Developer response:** Thank you. We are working on the new updates. Its just a initial version. We will add all these new features and also add your suggestions.

### 5/5 — Amazing app

*2021-03-30*

Very user friendly and helped me explore my creativity

### 5/5 — Very useful

*2021-03-27*

I’ve been searching for a good drawing app this definitely helps. Finally a good app that doesn’t lie. Thanks!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — It WAS a great app…

*2026-03-15, version 7.3.1*

This was a great app - could have been still, but latest update limited its functionality and added a paywall.

### 1/5 — The update always ruin subscription

*2026-03-10*

What did y’all done this time? I can’t restore my subscription.

**Developer response:** I am writing to let you know that the issue with your purchase has been resolved.

Please update DrawGestures to the latest version and launch the app to access your subscription. You should no longer need to take any further steps to restore your access.

Thank you for your patience throughout this process.

Best regards,

### 1/5 — Not working

*2024-10-28*

I love this app! The problem is it is no longer working! I have subscribed for a year on May 23,2024. I keep getting a message of an unrecognized character, it’s in RED. Seems important. I have reached out every day in the last week and have not received an answer. I did notice that there is a revision of this app that includes a different price structure. Is this the reason my app is no longer working. I am looking for a way to solve this problem. What is the sense of having an app you charge for and no longer working…. Seems fishy to me. Always easy to ignore the problem as long as you have the money. Also I really like this app so it matters to me. I have used this app for a few years WHAT HAPPENED?

### 1/5 — You might have to buy it twice

*2024-10-22*

I bought this app back in 2021 and have been using it the last couple years. Now all of a sudden I’m forced to rebuy it or sign up for a subscription to continue using it.

**Developer response:** The issue has been fixed. Apologies for any inconvenience

### 1/5 — Very fishy thing is going on in the name of updates…

*2022-08-28*

Very fishy thing is going on in the name of updates. All introduction of subscription methods and almost all features are locked. Can’t pick one picture to sketch.

What a poor soul!!

**Developer response:** Ealier it was paid app. In free version you can choose a folder from files library. It will select 25 images from that directory. This app is just my contribution to the artists but to pay the development cost i have to add subscriptions. I dont even make 100$ a month from this app. :D

### 1/5 — Need to select each reference photo one by one

*2021-11-05*

Doesn’t seem to be able to select whole photo albums.

**Developer response:** Apologies for the inconvenience. We have added your requested feature and lot more other option to choose your library from.
Thank you :)

### 1/5 — FRAUD—I wouldn’t pay a dime for this

*2021-08-01*

This app doesn’t include any figure image libraries, which is what an artist would expect when someone says “Gesture Drawing.” It’s very misleading. Of course they would claim that “gesture” could be of anything, not just figures.

All this app does is provide a timer that automatically steps through, either, your own photo collection libraries in your phone/pad, or to the cloud. Well, if I have to access my own photos, why do I need a timer, especially, when the source material is my own.

I’m going to resolve with APPLE for a refund. If the developers hope that I’ll just go away and let them collect the 99-cents—no me!

**Developer response:** We are excited to inform you that we have added new feature you may like. Added more library options to choose from. We provide our own premium library of references and you can also connect your pinterest account to choose your pins as reference.

Thank you for your review. We would love see you to come back. :)

### 2/5 — Libraries missing/ paywalled?

*2026-08-29*

What happened? I’ve been using this app for years and suddenly very basic features are behind a paywall? Very limited library selection with no more gesture practice images? I don’t want to have to source images from Pinterest and have to dodge that Ai riddled mess. Bummed that I’ll have to find another gesture drawing app now.

**Developer response:** Hi Keelah — sorry for the disruption, and thanks for using the app all these years.

To be clear: the libraries weren't moved behind a paywall, they were removed entirely because of a licensing issue on our end. We won't keep distributing an artist's work without proper permission, so the packs came down while we sort out the rights. We respect every artist and creator whose work made those libraries what they were.

We're working on relicensing now and will bring the reference content back as soon as it's cleared.

If the app isn't delivering what you're paying for right now, email me at support@drawgestures.com — I'd rather fix it for you than lose you.

### 2/5 — a

*2026-04-17, version 7.4.5*

I previously tried your 1-month subscription
to decide whether it was worth paying the full price.
Honestly, 1,000 baht already felt too expensive
for what I got. I only used it for a few days
and then left the rest of the subscription unused.

there’s a new web-based app that integrates very well
with Pinterest. It’s free for almost everything (with some image limits), works across all devices, and is already very good value. Yes, it’s new and a bit rough around the edges, but it’s improving, and I can tolerate that.

That’s why I came back to look at your app again, thinking I might just accept the higher price. But then I saw the price had jumped from 1,000 to 3,000 baht. That honestly shocked me and pushed me to look for alternatives.

I ended up using a much more cost-effective app like Seshr for just 99 baht. It already covers everything I need, except Pinterest integration—but that’s not a real issue. I can simply use a Chrome extension to bulk download images from Pinterest. Problem solved.

So the question is: why is your app so expensive?

The only standout feature is
Pinterest integration and a simple timed slideshow. That’s it.

Meanwhile, there are features I don’t need at all but still have to pay for:

1. Drawing tools — I already use a dedicated drawing app alongside this. It’s more convenient and has better brushes.

2. Progress tracking — I assume that’s what it is, but honestly it’s confusing and feels unnecessary. It just clutters the app. I can track progress more effectively by creating new layers in my drawing app and saving weekly or monthly files.

3. Some kind of layer system you recently added — again, not something I asked for or needed.

To be blunt, none of these features are essential, yet they significantly increase the price. This is exactly why many people choose Procreate over Adobe products.

Even if your app includes all these features, it’s still overpriced. When compared to ArtStudio Pro—which costs about the same (around 1,000 baht) but is far more powerful and complex—your pricing just doesn’t make sense from a user’s perspective.

When you lowered the price back down, I changed my rating from 1 star to 3 stars. But if your pricing were closer to Procreate—or even slightly cheaper—I’d say 4–5 stars would be fair.
(At this point, there are many more alternatives available, so I still haven’t decided to purchase.
And after this, I won’t be updating my rating again.)

In the end,
I think you need to seriously reconsider one thing:
What exactly are users paying for
when they buy your app?

### 3/5 — The update always ruining the experience

*2026-04-08*

Every time I draw, because I’m comfortable having my wrist on the screen my canvas flip upside down and I hate it.

**Developer response:** Turn on the stylus only option in the top left settings menu which will prevent unwanted gestures

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent app and excellent service

*2026-03-31*

I’ve been using the app for gesture drawing since early 2022 and it has worked excellently throughout. I had a minor issue with a recent update and reached out about it and had it resolved in only about an hour. Excellent app with an excellent responsive developer. Deserving of I think my only ever App Store review ;)

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for this wonderful review — and for being with us since 2022! It genuinely means a lot that you took the time to write your first-ever App Store review for us. We're glad we could resolve your issue quickly, and we'll keep working hard to earn that support. Wishing you many more great drawing sessions ahead! 🙏

### 5/5 — Most useful art app since photoshop!

*2026-01-08*

The Mac version is a little buggy on setup and linking with Pinterest, but after that just as good as iPad app. Being able to shuffle any Pinterest board and do timed gestures has improved my figure drawing unbelievably fast. I can’t believe how hard this app was to find, should be way more popular.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for this review — it really means a lot! 🙏

I'm glad the Pinterest shuffle + timed gestures combo is working well for your figure drawing practice. That's exactly the workflow I built it around, so hearing it's making a real difference is the best feedback I could get.

Sorry about the bumpy setup on Mac — I'm actively working on smoothing that out. If you run into anything specific, feel free to reach out directly and I'll get it sorted.

And yeah, discoverability has been the biggest challenge honestly. If you ever feel like sharing it with fellow artists or in any communities you're part of, that would help tremendously. Word of mouth from actual users like you goes a long way. Thanks again!

### 5/5 — Free?

*2025-12-20*

Is this app free now? All the features are free and already unlocked for me.
Really great app btw

### 5/5 — Love it

*2025-09-21, version 3.0.2*

Its an excellent app to have, regardless of your skill level as an artist. I absolutely love it.
If i could make a request however, could the canvas be unending, instead of the rectangle that we are restricted to? Either that or the ability to resize the drawings quickly. I often find myself running out of space.

### 5/5 — Downloaded After Seeing Developer's Response About AI

*2025-01-22*

In another review, the developer mentioned that no AI photos are used. I appreciate this. Also, the privacy policy's great.

### 5/5 — Not working

THANK YOU! It’s working great and I am so happy the problem was resolved! It’s a great app for practicing figure drawing!

**Developer response:** The issue has been fixed. Apologies for the inconvenience

### 5/5 — Best Gesture Drawing App for iOS

*2024-06-14*

Pulls images from many sources, supports image shuffling, and offers great customization!

### 5/5 — Best gesture drawing app I’ve ever tried

*2022-09-18, version 1.3.9*

I love the pencil brush in this app! I would definitely buy the brush for procreate or photoshop.

It feel like a gesture I would draw in irl

Love the update on trace feature.

### 5/5 — Awesome 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

*2022-05-22, version 1.3.2*

After updated the pencil brush is awesome. I can say “Very natural pencil feel” sharp and tilt works amazing.
Perfect all round gesture Drawing reference too. Timed, count, session and so on. Nothing left what artists need. Can use online references from it’s own library, Pinterest boards and can use offline images too.
Awesome guys. Keep up the good work. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

### 5/5 — Great app!!

*2022-05-13*

I’ve been using this app for about a month and its been great. I noticed that it recently got updated to allow photos directly from Files and that’s the exact feature i’ve been waiting for! I love to see it get better and better

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback 😊. We will keep improving the app. Thank you for your love and support :)
