### 4/5 — Best diagramming tool

*2021-06-15*

Perfect with my Apple Pencil. Hope you can add “rename” function

### 4/5 — Amazing! (but)

*2021-05-05, version 1.4.8*

I am so happy to have discovered this app. It makes the task of creating diagrams so easy. Drag shapes. Label them. Draw connections. Drag stuff around.

This is so much better at the core task than other apps.

But I do have suggestions.

The interface is not very iOS compliant. iCloud sync seems absent. The file browser is crude. Keyboard support is poor, (CMD-Z) does not undo etc. Can’t figure out how to put a caption at top of box. And the symbol picker is just a random pile of symbols with no search and no hierarchy.

I hope the developer continues to improve. I would pay more!

But I am going to carry on using!

### 4/5 — Great App. Having a few issues with Cloud Export

*2020-01-07*

Love the app on the iPad Air with the pencil. Exactly what I needed.

The OneDrive export seems to be linked somehow to personal drives and does not want to login to business or office365 accounts.

The Dropbox connector says its uploading but the files never appear.

Could we have the export on the iPad linked into the normal “share” iOS so I could export into MS outlook or slack?

iPad Air iOS 13.3

### 4/5 — Loved it!

*2019-12-03*

Exactly what I need. Very easy to use and makes nice charts.

Did not experience any issues at all. Saved several file formats to Dropbox.

Switched to paid version from LITE.

I can't comment on how it works with very complex charts and features as I do not use it for that purpose.

### 4/5 — RoKs

*2019-08-16*

Crisp, clean, intuitive = Fast! Rapid learning curve - exponential.

### 5/5 — Perfectly executed

*2019-06-15*

This app is the only diagram creator you need... the workflow and UI makes creating everything from business processes to system architectures a breeze. Can’t recommend this enough

### 5/5 — Great App

*2019-06-02, version 1.3.6*

Love this App so easy to use, just wish I could create my own shapes would be able to do so much more then whilst on the move on the engineering side.

### 4/5 — Good app ... needs export and import to be great

*2019-05-20, version 1.3.5*

It’s fantastic to be able to draw a box and have it recognised, but being limited to the one specific format is a limitation that prevents me making much use of this app outside random sketches.

### 5/5 — Very cool and neat simple app.

*2019-03-19*

I think it's a really smart app. At first I thought it wasn't going to help with my UML sketches, but then, I realized that the mix of pencil strokes and gestures gets you to create whatever you want. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2018-11-10*

I am a law student, and this app lets me capture outlines, relationships, the big picture, quickly and without the frustration of lots of clicking, selecting, formatting.

Only suggestion – the app sometimes crashes on me. Hopefully those glitches are worked out in following versions.

### 5/5 — One of the best apps on the AppStore

*2018-08-25*

Feature filled diagramming application. Be sure and take the time to follow the tutorial as it will make your initial experience much smoother. Once you have the basics down it’s actually quite intuitive. Great for any type of mind mapping/diagramming. The network diagramming is worth its weight in gold. I use it for planning network installations and mapping existing ones. Try the free version and get your bearings. Once you get the hang of it head back and purchase the paid version. Keep this baby alive by supporting the developers because there isn’t another one like it in the AppStore.

👍 Thanks for the pdf export!

### 5/5 — Great even without Pencil support

*2018-08-17*

Tried this out together with a bunch of other apps for drawing diagrams on iPad Pro with Pencil. This one turns out to be the most intuitive once I learned the few gestures, even though it doesn’t support Pencil.
I used to dread doing diagrams on PC/MAC, even with tools that are supposed to make it easier such as Visio. Now I do all my diagrams in this app and then export them.

This is also great for face-to-face discussions when, for example, there is a need to quickly come up with a sequence diagram or a flow chart. It’s as intuitive and fast as pen-and-paper, but with the ease of making modification on the fly.
I can honestly say that this is the app which makes me feel comfortable to just bring an iPad Pro to a technical meeting.

I’ve been using this for 6 months and I can’t praise this app enough. I just hope the developer will continue to improve it.

### 5/5 — Brilliant App

*2018-01-15*

If you are a software developer or manager and need to produce UML, sequence or flow diagrams this App is great, especially on the iPad Pro!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not for beginners - rubbish

*2024-06-18, version 1.4.8*

Help is a standard set of diagrams - no interactive support. The two help videos lead to a black screen. So if anything goes wrong…too bad!

### 1/5 — DO NOT PAY FOR THIS

*2023-02-11*

Class dividers don’t work. I tried and tried. Searched online, but to no avail. Looks like they screwed this app up and left it up. DO NOT PAY FOR THIS.

### 1/5 — Deceptive

*2019-01-28*

They show great looking UML diagrams in screenshots but you cannot create them. Basically you can type in center of UML class diagram and not in individual parts like class name, attributes and methods. You have to format it via enter empty lines, painful and still floating solution. I want refund!

**Developer response:** We have a tutorial section for "class and interface" text markup for Class Diagram. You can see the tutorial from the "help" section in the app or from our website.

### 1/5 — No way to save to a cloud on iPad

*2017-12-24*

Spent one week creating a project now I have no way to share this between devices. Waste of $16 buying this app on multiple platforms. Buyer beware absolutely no support.

### 2/5 — Poor Class Diagram Support

*2021-02-12*

It took forever to understand that Class diagrams are not supported. What you get is a text box. You then enter text into a large text box where you enter “.class.” At the top to tell it what it is. Hit enter and type a class name, enter then add a series of periods to indicate a separator. Now enter you properties one per line. Another set of periods, then your methods one per line.
Select done and receive a poorly represented class. The class name is overlapping the line that should start the properties. The areas not cleanly delineated. The interface to create the class is not intuitive, and bears no representation of task purposed interface that helps the user.
It is a pretty app, though.

### 2/5 — Ugly view on iPad Pro

*2017-04-22, version 1.2.9*

Too expensive for this functionality. Ugly view and lack of icons

### 2/5 — unfriendly poor options

*2014-03-23, version 1.0.9*

not worth the $$$, has a very unfriendly user interface, lacks stencils, and the multi gestures are a hassle to get working.

### 3/5 — Good but tedious

*2021-05-09, version 1.4.8*

Arrows are attached to the edge rather than pointing to the centre of shape nodes. It is tedious to adjust arrows after moving shapes around.

### 3/5 — Crop

*2020-12-02, version 1.4.8*

Crop features on image insertion lacks the features of the android version

Disappointed

### 4/5 — My replacement for Instaviz

*2022-03-11*

Instaviz had been my go-to app when I need to hash out a few ideas so I was devastated when it stopped working when I upgraded to iOS 15.3

Took me a while to try out various diagrammers and I am so glad I found Draw Express. More stable & features & shapes. Am glad with my purchase.

Note to developer: if you can put in that self-organizing feature like in Instaviz, I am willing to shell out another $8 (at least).

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — the BEST box-and-line tool

*2025-02-09*

This is my go-to tool for diagramming with boxes and lines. No other tool is as intuitive and quick to produce a clean and organized diagram. In particular, I love the choice of how multi-touch gestures are used and how selection is managed. I use this quite often for network connectivity diagrams and sometimes even for physical layout (cabling, ergonomics) diagrams. This has a few bugs - like color history selection - but I just work around them (with a little frustration). The biggest slowdown in the workflow is typing text, but that’s mostly because the iPad keyboard isn’t that great (and this doesn’t do handwriting recognition). Still the best tool despite these deficiencies.

### 5/5 — The best flowchart app I could find

*2023-04-20*

I searched for a flowchart on the App Store and download six contenders. This was the fifth one I tried. I didn’t bother trying the last one. Before I got to DrawExpress I didn’t spend more than one minute on any of the other contenders because they were frustrating for many reasons.

Draw express was a comparative breath of fresh air. Intuitive, easy, and elegant. When I wanted to do more then was initially intuitive, I went to their website and the clear instructional diagrams there had me charting like a pro in almost no time at all. Less than a minute to pick up several new tricks.

I doubt I will need the features of the full app but I bought it anyhow to support the developer. Eight dollars is a small price to pay to encourage people who make the world better to keep doing it.

Hey developer, thank you! also, I ran into a bug several times but of course when I tried to record it to report it to you it no longer happened.

 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It wasn’t work-stopping, but I figured you’d want to know. i’ll try to capture it if it happens again.

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2022-04-16*

I can create simple or complex flowcharts and mind maps for my job. The export options are great: PDF, PNG, and SVG.

A++ app especially since it does not require a subscription! I hate subscription software and refuse to buy apps that are subscription based.

### 5/5 — Impressionante

*2021-10-27*

Excelente aplicativo. Vale muito a pena a versão paga, até pra incentivar as atualizações. Espero que tenhamos UPDATES, em breve!

### 5/5 — Easy and quick

*2021-02-24, version 1.4.8*

Very useful app, I use mind map apps as well, but here I get added flexibility when I need more detailed or complex flows, and drawing shapes is very intuitive. Being able to export to multiple formats including pdf’s is a plus.

### 5/5 — Best for computing diagrams

*2020-04-09, version 1.4.8*

Stumbled on to this app. Best I’ve used. Doesn’t get in the way of brainstorming designs.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2020-01-01*

Love it, this is exactly what I was looking for

### 5/5 — Very Good App

*2019-11-19*

Very smart user interface, Easy, Comfort and Friendly.

### 5/5 — Incredibly well done

*2019-09-28*

I’ve been meaning to review this app for a while. It is actually quite clever and makes it realistic to do things similar to what you’d do in Visio on the iPad. Quick sketches can actually turn into a final product. Strong rec. Keep improving it!

### 5/5 — Simple and great

*2019-07-26, version 1.4.1*

This is the most intuitive tool I have for making software engineering diagrams - for example small network and client-server diagrams can be rapidly prototyped. It really helps think through anything that can be represented as a graph.
