### 4/5 — Awesome!

*2020-09-02, version 4.3.7*

Great! Practicing piano is so much easier! Only thing I would say, though, is that I sometimes have trouble navigating the app. That may just be me. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Only works with ringer on and does not work in background :(

*2020-01-30, version 4.3.3*

I have been using this met for a couple years and it’s been wonderful up until recently- now it only works when my ringer is on and will not play if I close out of the app. I tried restarting my phone and uninstalling/reinstalling the app but I’m still having the same issue.

**Developer response:** Hi, Thanks for the input. Ver 4.3.4 fixes the issue. If you still have any trouble, please contact me at ssworks.support@mac.com. Best regards.

### 5/5 — Met now shuts off when locked?

*2020-01-07, version 4.3.1*

This met has been great until the latest update. Why is the met now turning off when I lock my phone? I’d love the ability to toggle that feature so that I can use the met without keeping the screen on.

**Developer response:** Hi, Thanks so much for using Dr.Betotte TC. The app should keep working with the screen locked, or in the background if you purchased the app version 4.2.2 or earlier, or registered via In-App purchase. Please try relaunching the app or restarting your device. If the trouble still remains, please contact me at ssworks.support@mac.com. Beat regards.

### 5/5 — Dustin Haley

Great tool for band directors, professional Musicians, and Music majors.

### 5/5 — Beloved Dr. Betotte

*2018-03-21, version 4.0.6*

Used Dr. Betotte on my Mac for years. SO GLAD to have it on my iPhone! Awesome in every way!

### 4/5 — How does the watch companion work?

*2018-02-10, version 4.0.6*

I love this app because I love my Dr. Beat. But I am not sure how the I-watch companion is supposed to work. When I open the app on my watch it shows the tempo screen, but when I push play nothing happens. Please help?! Thanks!

### 4/5 — Fantastic app! Would like a better master volume control....

*2017-09-30, version 4.0.2*

As a band director, I use this app (on the iPad) frequently. It has a lot of the functionality of a Dr. Beat.

I wish, however, that it had a better master volume control. I find it difficult to quickly, easily, accurately control the master volume when I need to turn it up or down. Rather than having the relatively small volume control at the top of the app, I suggest adding a full-sized master volume slider along with the other sliders.

I also wish that it was possible to hide the playlist on the side as I only use that feature occasionally.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn’t play for me

*2020-12-31, version 4.3.10*

Doesn’t make any noise for me on iPhone 12. Tried all the sound libraries like snare and nothing. Really wished this worked!

### 1/5 — I don’t get it try and explain how to play with it

*2020-03-11, version 4.3.5*

...

### 1/5 — disappointed

*2019-06-01, version 4.1.0*

this worked great for the first five minutes. now it crashes every 10 seconds and won’t let me change from a basic 4/4 with no subdivisions.

### 1/5 — Still many bugs

*2019-05-18, version 4.0.10*

Unfortunately this metronome app still, after so many years, has a lot of bugs and basic features that needs fixing. It’s almost unusable in a professional setting. Takes so much longer to program setlists let alone edit them afterwards.
Update. During a soundcheck I started feeling it was too fast or kinda pushing the time. Compared it with my Dr. Beat and yes, the app is slowly getting away from the Dr. Beat!! Can’t use it anymore.

**Developer response:** Hi, Thanks for the input. You were right, the app runs slightly faster than the displayed bpm number. I just submitted an update (version 4.1.0) which fixes this issue. This one will keep in sync with your Dr.Beat forever. As for the setlist function, I will take care of it in the future updates. If you have any question, please feel free to contact me at ssworks.support@mac.com anytime. Thanks again. Seishu

### 1/5 — Missing Feature

*2019-02-16, version 4.0.8*

This app is one feature short of being the perfect live metronome. Unfortunately it’s a very important feature so I have to use something else. The start/stop button is so small and near the bottom. When a drummer is in a live situation, he or she cannot be expected to press something so tiny. In fact, it’s not even a button... just a word. This app is so close and yet so far...

### 1/5 — What a waste of $10

*2008-11-24, version 0*

This may be the right tool for band directors and percussion instructors, but what a horribly cluttered interface! It's software, guy. Hide the lesser-used functions behind a swipe, and make the more commonly used buttons larger. And while you're at it, the TV and film industry uses a UREI click. Think you could find room for a simple pulse wave sample amongst all the drum machine beeps and boops?

If all you need is a simple, rock-solid tempo reference for stage or studio, save $8 and get Visual Metronome instead. Also useful and nicely designed is Metronome TS. I own all three programs as well as the Dr. Beat on which this was based, and am very sorry I wasted my money on Dr. Betotte.

By the way, note the developer's liberal return policy: "you cannot cancel a purchase or receive a refund for a purchase under any reason." Nice.

### 2/5 — Is it a ghost?

*2024-04-10*

Is this app active? Seems like it may have some interesting features but I can’t find any way to purchase the full version. Kinda sad since I don’t think I have seen another app like it.

### 2/5 — Crashes when using the Set List

*2019-03-05, version 4.0.8*

Could be great, but crashes when using the set list. As such, I can’t rely on it in a live situation. Uninstalling it now.

**Developer response:** Version 4.1.1 is now available. This update fixes the crashing issue when using the playlist. Thanks.

### 2/5 — Buggy as all get out

*2019-02-17, version 4.0.8*

Crashes a lot, complicated

### 2/5 — This app needs a users manual

*2018-01-01, version 4.0.6*

I bought it, but I’m not going to use it. I can tell you that it is a well thought out, versatile, and feature rich, app. Here is my example: 2/4 time, on beat #1 play four 16th notes, the first two notes are assigned sound A. The second two are assigned sound B. For beat #2 use sounds A and B to play two 8th notes. This is the kind of metronome i use to practice drum sticking exercises. How can this be done? Maybe I can do it with the sequencer feature, but that is the main problem. The developer provides a sequencer, but no documentation on how to use it. It is not intuitive enough for the uninitiated. The built in help is lame; the online help does not exist. Ill go back to using Metronomics until there is better support for this app. Ill give it 5 stars when some better documentation shows up

**Developer response:** Hi, Thank you so much for downloading Dr.Betotte TC and apologize for not providing enough documentation. I created a quick instruction to make sequence that you mentioned here. Please visit “http://ssworkssoftware.com/instructions/drbetottetc/help/“. If you have any question, please feel free to contact me at ssworks.support@mac.com.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great app, but registration is broken

*2023-05-06*

Would love to register from my iPad, but it keeps saying “AppStore not available “ - and yet the AppStore works fine

### 5/5 — Professional drummer

*2023-04-28*

This is my favorite metronome app by far. Well done

### 5/5 — I love it!! Great app!

*2022-08-03, version 4.5.5*

Thank you for making such a great app. It is very useful. Looking forward to future updates.

### 5/5 — Reliable and Flexible

*2021-09-21, version 4.5.3*

I’ve been using this app since 2010, and it’s been an awesome [doctor brand] replacement, in my pocket!

In recent years, I’ve made extensive use of the flexible and easy playlists for a variety of settings. Syncing via iCloud has enabled creating playlists on my iPhone, then running them on an older, dedicated device for playback, which has been a great workflow.

### 5/5 — Looks like it is powerful but the help is almost non-existent

*2021-07-17, version 4.5.3*

I’ve been trying to figure out how to get this app to work in coach mode. No luck. I can see coach mode but the interface does not respond to “long clicks.” So there is no obvious way to turn it on.

**Developer response:** Hi, thanks for the input. To turn on the coach function, just click coach button. Long click will show the coach list. If you still have any trouble, please contact me at ssworks.support@mac.com

### 5/5 — A fantastic app; the best metronome available.

*2021-03-06, version 4.5.2*

This is by far the best metronome available in the app store; it’s versatile, endlessly customizable, and incredibly user-friendly. What’s more, the dev seems to be wonderfully responsive.

I do have a wish: I wish this metronome was configured to work as an AUV3 extension. No metronomes seem to do this; but it seems like it would be incredibly useful to be able to chain a metronome into a full sound production setup in an app like AUM or Audiobus. When I’m practicing or recording myself playing piano, it’s usually inside AUM; and while it works to have Dr Betotte open in a floating tab (it’s great that it has that functionality!) it is a little glitchy that way (has to be isolated every time you open it by sliding over, and sometimes crashes) and would work better if it were just directly chained into AUM as a AUV3 (or even IAA) sound module.

No other metronome app seems to do this, so it’s not something I’m annoyed about. Dr Betotte works so great without this feature that I’ll be happy with it and use it anyway. But it would be a cool way to distinguish the app, since there seems to be a vast ocean of relatively basic metronomes.

Still, this is the best one. It’s very good.

### 5/5 — More than the average metronome.

*2021-02-27, version 4.5.1*

Downloaded this awhile ago and just started using it. It’s a keeper.

### 5/5 — Great

*2020-11-15, version 4.3.10*

#1 metronome I recommend to others. I made a complaint about a glitch and the developer fixed it! It would be great if the metronome voice of a person counting were included as an option as one of the metronome voice options. I know the Dr. Beat’s have them.

**Developer response:** Ver.4.3.7 fixes the issue, thanks.

### 5/5 — My favorite metronome

*2020-09-13, version 4.3.8*

I have tried fifteen or so metronome apps and Dr. Betotte is best for me.
