## What is Drift?

Real places. Nothing made up.

You have a free afternoon, or a long drive ahead, and no plan. Drift gives you a few real things to do, right now or on the way.

RIGHT NOW
Tell Drift how much time you have. It finds five real places around you, nearest first, and tells you plainly why each one is there. Want more? Find five more brings five you have not seen yet. Open any of them in Maps in one tap.

ON THE WAY
Tell Drift where you are starting, where you are going, and how often you want to stop. It plans the drive: when you leave, where you stop and what time you get there, how long you stay, and when you arrive. Each stop has two other options if the first one is not for you. Food, a walk, or something worth getting out of the car for, and it skips the gas-station food marts when there is a real place to eat.

WHAT IS HAPPENING
Concerts, comedy, games and shows near you, soonest first, from Ticketmaster. Tap one for the details, tickets in one tap, or a quick web search. When there are few shows nearby, Drift shows the venues that host them and a one-tap search for what is on in your town.

SAVE IT, THEN GO
Keep what looks good and mark it done when you have been. Swipe to remove, with Undo. Your list lives on your phone.

WHERE THE ANSWERS COME FROM
Places come from Apple Maps. Events come from Ticketmaster. Both are only ever asked when you tap, never when you open the app and never in the background. When you search, Drift sends a rounded location and nothing about you. There is no account, no ads, nothing collected and no tracking.

FREE, AND THAT IS THE WHOLE STORY
Drift used to charge, because it asked an AI to invent suggestions and then paid another service to check whether the places it named were real. It asks Apple Maps now, which returns places that exist. That costs nothing to run, so the app is free. Every feature. There is a tip jar in Settings and it unlocks nothing.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.0.0 — 2026-09-29

Drift is free now. All of it.

Here is what changed and why. Drift used to ask an AI to think of places, and then paid a second service to check whether those places were real, because sometimes they were not. That cost money every month, so the app cost money too.

It now asks Apple Maps. Apple Maps only returns places that exist, so there is nothing to verify and nothing to pay for. Which means there is nothing left to charge you for, so I stopped. Every feature is free, there is no account, and nothing is collected.

Drift also gained the whole of a second app I never shipped. Tell it where you are going and how often you want to stop, and it plans the drive: when you leave, where you stop, how long you stay, and what time you get there.

What's Happening now looks around wherever you are, or any town you type, and when there are few shows nearby it shows you the venues that host them. And there are photographs everywhere, because a list of words never made anyone want to go anywhere.

Everything you saved is still here, untouched.

There is a tip jar in Settings if you want one. It unlocks nothing.
