## What is Driftlog?

Driftlog fills in your travel map by itself.

Turn on location once and leave it. Driftlog records the countries, cities and regions you pass through while it sits closed in the background. No check-ins. No writing anything down. Open it after six months and the map has been filling itself in the whole time.

YOUR OLD TRIPS ARE ALREADY IN YOUR PHOTOS

You do not have to start from today. Tap import once and Driftlog reads the location that is already saved inside your photos, then puts those trips on the map with their dates. Years of travel can appear in a minute.

It reads the location tag on a photo. It never looks at the picture itself.

If the location history your phone used to keep is gone, this is the thing to try. Your photos usually still remember where you were.

WHAT YOU GET

- A world map that colors itself in, country by country
- A passport with a landmark stamp for every country you have visited
- A timeline by year, down to the cities you stayed in and the dates
- Memories: where you were on this day a year ago, and the year before that
- A welcome back recap when you get home
- Trip and year cards you can share

WHAT IT COSTS

Free to download.

Free forever, for everyone: the world map, the passport stamps, your country count, the timeline.

Free in full: your home country. Every region, city, stay date and linked photo, without paying anything.

Free abroad: your first foreign country, in full. That is the oldest one in your history.

From the second foreign country onward, the details (dates, cities, notes, photos) open with one purchase. The price is shown on this page. You pay once. No subscription, no ads, no account.

WHAT LEAVES YOUR PHONE

Your records stay on the device. There is no account and no server behind this app. No ads, no tracking, and the App Store privacy label says Data Not Collected.

One thing does go out, and it is worth saying plainly. To turn coordinates into a name like "Lisbon, Portugal", the coordinates are sent to Apple's map service. That is all that is sent. Not your history, not your photos.

BEFORE YOU START

Automatic recording needs Location set to Always, with Precise Location on. Nothing is recorded while your phone is off or has no signal.

The photo import only sees photos that carry a location. Photos taken with camera location switched off are invisible to it. You can add a location to them later in the Photos app: select them, tap the info button, then Add Location, and run the import again. The import also needs Photos access set to All Photos. On Selected Photos it only looks at the ones you picked.

A place counts as a trip when it has 3 or more photos on one day, or photos spanning 2 or more days and at least 6 hours apart, so a late-night landing plus a photo after midnight is not counted as an overnight stay. Shorter stops are treated as layovers and left out.

Your home area is excluded by default, inside a radius you can change in settings.

iPhone and iPad, iOS 17 or later. Portrait only. Made by one person.

Wander. It logs the rest.

**Developer response:** misaja

**Developer response:**

**Developer response:**

**Developer response:**

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3 — 2026-08-19

The privacy page you see when you first open Driftlog contradicted itself. It said your location never reaches anyone, and then, one sentence later, that a coordinate is sent to the maps service to come back as a place name. The second sentence is what actually happens. The wording now says that plainly, in every language.

The photo permission text now says up front that Driftlog reads the date and location saved in your photos across your whole library. That is how it rebuilds the trips you took in the past, and you should know it before you tap Allow.

### 1.2 — 2026-08-15

The privacy note inside the app now says exactly what happens.

It used to say your location never reaches any outside server. That was not quite true, and it is the kind of thing this app should be the last to get wrong. Your records do stay on this device. The one thing that goes out is a coordinate, sent to Apple's map service, to come back as a place name. Nothing else leaves. The screen now says that.

Help in English.

If Driftlog is not recording anything, there is now an English support page. It walks you through the three settings behind almost every case: Location set to Always, Precise Location on, and Photos set to All Photos. You can reach it from App Support on this page.

A store page that says what the app actually does.

The description now explains the photo import properly. Driftlog reads the location already saved inside your photos, so photos taken with camera location switched off are skipped, and the page tells you how to add a location to those and import again. The free and paid parts are spelled out too: your home country is free in full, your first foreign country is free in full, and one purchase opens the rest. No subscription.

This version also changes how the app asks for a rating. There is now a “Rate Driftlog” row in Settings, so you can open the review page whenever you feel like it. The app itself only asks after a photo import finishes restoring your past trips, or when your map gains a new country — and only a few times a year at most.

If something is not working, write to shiori.sutudio@gmail.com. One person reads that address and answers.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-08-13

No feature changes since 1.1.0. We rewrote the App Store description so it is clear what the app can and cannot do.

• Clarified that trips in your home country (set in the app) are shown in full — regions, cities and dates — without a purchase.
• Clarified what photo import needs: photos must contain location data, and Photos access must be set to "All Photos".

1.1.0 greatly improved country detection. If places are still missing, please check that Location Services is set to "Always" with "Precise Location" turned on, then contact us from the support page.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-08-11

- Greatly improved country detection: islands, coastal towns, border cities, and small countries like Vatican City and Monaco are now recorded correctly
- More reliable trip folder export: photos missing from the destination are automatically restored on the next export
- New option to write duplicate photos only once, saving storage when a photo belongs to more than one trip
- Added a confirmation dialog before deleting the export folder
- Stability improvements, including accurate pause reasons during export

### 1.0.9 — 2026-08-10

■ New: Export trip folders (Premium)

Export each trip as its own folder, containing the record and the photos
you took on that trip. Save to iCloud Drive, on this iPhone, or an
external drive. Large libraries show progress and time remaining, and
keep going after you close the app. If it stops partway, the next run
picks up where it left off.

■ Improvements

・You can now mark any number of everyday areas — such as a home you
moved away from. Long-press a city name and choose "This is my
everyday area": trips around it stop being recorded, and the ones
　already saved are cleared.
・Records whose city name ended up as a country name (for example
"United States") are now looked up and corrected automatically, along
with any missing state or prefecture. Nothing for you to do.

■ Fixes

・Fixed some cities going missing when importing a large number of photos.
・Added "Include in device backup" so you can carry your records to a new
phone (off by default — your records stay on this device).
・Fixed exported photos that could come out incomplete.
・Other fixes to make sure your records are never lost.
