Drillaby is a speech therapy game designed for SLPs to use for articulation drills. Drillaby is appropriate for kids in preschool through mid-elementary. The app is designed to give kids lots of practice opportunities while playing a motivating game. The object of the game is to get Drillaby through four different areas on an island and then home! The child must produce sounds correctly in order to get Drillaby on a boat and off the island. Drillaby was designed by certified speech-language pathologists. This articulation game includes a choice of six sound groups: /k/-/g/, /t/-/p/, /v/-/f/, /sh/-/ch/, /l/, /s/ and /s/ blends. There are three levels of difficulty including words in carrier phrases. Drillaby is an excellent complement to the SLP Minimal Pairs app for iPad, providing more words and levels of difficulty for practice. A great benefit of Drillaby Pro is the way it reinforces homework between therapy sessions. Therapists can recommend a single sound group version of Drillaby, which specifically targets the appropriate sound for kids to work on when parents ask for homework ideas. All sound groups can be presented in US, UK or AUS accents. Initially, it would crash as soon as I tried to open the app. Now, even though I purchased the Pro version, I only have the option of selecting /k, g/ phonemes. Previous Review: I just purchased this a week ago. Whenever I open the app and hit "Play", the program crashes and I'm back to my home screen. Help! Have deleted and uploaded several times. How can I get my money back? ### 4/5 — Individual Practice *2013-06-23, version 1.0.1* The Drillaby Pro app is an engaging and helpful tool for SLPs and families to use with their students/kids to practice target sounds (k, g, t, p, v, f, sh, ch, and l). It can be used by one student at a time and allows you to differentiate practice, easy, medium, or hard depending on the child's level. You are also able to have students practice speech production on the word and sentence level. I like that the child has to meet a specific level of accuracy before being able to move on. As the child moves from easy to hard, the level of accuracy needed to move on increases as well. There are two things that I would like to see updated. First, you are unable to see the recorded results unless the child completes the whole sticker book. Second, once a word card is presented you are not able to skip it or go back, you have to complete the stars. Bottom line, I think this is a great app for articulation drills in therapy and for home practice. It has built in repetition of each sound. This is an important feature because repetition is vital to artic practice and kids often get irritated with me if a word is presented once and I go outside the app and ask them to repeat the word additional times. The app also collects data automatically that can be shared via email. This app is engaging. The kids I work with enjoy looking for the hidden words and earning stickers throughout the game. In the "easy" mode, kids have the opportunity for 60 reps, and in the "medium" and "hard" modes, the reps increase to 100. My young clients get the amount of repetitions they need in order to acquire skills quickly and in a very motivating way! The reports generated are also nice for data keeping.
