### 2/5 — This app is incredibly inacurate

*2026-08-17, version 2.6.0*

This app thinks everything is a hard brake. I have literally driven to the store and back with no red lights, no stop signs and still got “hard brakes” when slowing for traffic.

### 3/5 — Hard breaking

*2026-07-13, version 2.6.0*

I am writing to provide constructive feedback regarding a specific feature within your application. While I generally appreciate the utility of the app, I've consistently observed that the hard braking detection system appears to be exceptionally sensitive.

It frequently registers what I would consider to be standard, controlled braking actions – typical in everyday driving conditions – as instances of 'hard braking.' This sensitivity often leads to inaccurate classifications, which subsequently affects the driving analytics and scores provided by the app. From a user perspective, this can be a source of frustration, as it doesn't always reflect actual driving behavior or distinguish between abrupt, unsafe stops and necessary, albeit firm, deceleration.

Improving the calibration or refining the algorithm for this feature would significantly enhance the accuracy and overall user experience. Perhaps introducing adjustable sensitivity settings or a more nuanced interpretation of deceleration patterns could be beneficial.

Thank you for considering this feedback.

### 2/5 — Very touchy app

*2026-07-02, version 2.6.0*

Update: As soon as I reviewed this app, giving it 3 stars, suddenly my driving score went from 85% (good driver) to 79 (not so good). Whoever is reading these reviews is acting like a child. Stop!

Original review: It’s a good idea, makes you aware that a driver shouldn’t be doing certain things while actively driving. However, it’s very touchy! If something falls on your phone, or if you touch the screen by mistake, it’s counted against the driver (I just came from a 10 mile trip where I didn’t touch the phone, yet the app says that I did. Go figure!).
Also, if you break even slightly hard to prevent an accident, it’s counted against the driver, regardless of the fact that he or she might have saved American Family Insurance tens of thousands of dollars in damages/repairs.
Other than that, this app is fine.

### 4/5 — None

### 5/5 — We are are American Family members with high standards

*2025-12-18, version 2.5.1*

I normally drive the VW Eurovan and stay under the speed limit. I took the wagon out to the appliance store and a funeral mostly cause it looks better, got a refer and dryer in the back w some rope. The app showed I drove too fast and used my phone while driving. At American Family we are special, we have high standards to drive within the speed limit, not use the cell phone and obey the rules of the road. With this app I now know I can adjust my behavior and meet the high standards of American Family. Safety is important and requires these high standards. I am proud to be a member of American Family insurance. They look out for their members with reminding us of high standards.

### 5/5 — Working GREAT Now!

*2025-12-17, version 2.5.1*

I’ve been using this app a long time. At first it sucked but it has steadily improved. I’ve contacted them with the problems. They sometimes even replied I’m thinking they have listened to us and created a truly useful app that allows us to save up to 35% now for becoming safer drivers. A win win for us all.

At first it was impossible to understand why our scores didn’t seem to improve but now everything makes sense. We can see exactly what’s happening. They explain everything so we can understand the scoring. Since this new update my score is moving higher. I’m actually at 90 which is well into the 35% discount. This has become a game for me. And it’s paying me handsomely to play.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Incorrect Data

*2026-08-11, version 2.6.0*

The app incorrectly calculates data. I have contacted support and they haven’t been able to resolve the issue. I may remove the app.

### 1/5 — Junk app

*2026-07-17, version 2.6.0*

Spotless driving record. Never been in an accident and somehow get hard braking in a drive through. What gives? Truly a disappointing app to feed to your customers. Maybe look at driving records instead. Absolutely garbage if you live in a big city. Don’t drive defensively because then you have a bad driving score. It’s like the company wants you to get in wrecks driving like a moron to sustain a good score. Better insurance companies out there who respect their customers and don’t make them jump through hoops like a circus clown for a disappointing discount. Maybe give honest insurance rates instead of this BS.

### 1/5 — Annoying

*2026-07-16, version 2.6.0*

Hate the app requirement of always sharing my location. Auto insurance should track VEHICLE movement.

### 1/5 — Brakes

*2026-07-06, version 2.6.0*

I liked the previous app American family used. Ever since it changed to this, every yellow light I brake to is a hard brake. It’s almost better if I ran the yellow if I’m near the intersection. Dramatically reduced my score even though my driving isn’t any better or worse. My rates doubled based on these false data.

### 1/5 — Charges apply read before you join.

*2026-03-11, version 2.5.1*

You are charged the 15% back if you delete the app even after the introductory time. I just got hit with a $203 bill unexpectedly. The corporate workers didn’t even know the terms. I was lied to, Imo. They said there was no fee charged if you complete the 99 trips.

Read the terms well. Don’t get hit with unexpected charges!

### 1/5 — Drive my way by AM Fam insurance

*2026-01-16, version 2.5.1*

This app is not working correctly even if I take an uber or public transportation still count as a driving, with high score -no speeding, hard breaking and no phone use my score is low, talked to representative and was told since my average speed is 23 mph with constant stop at stop sign and traffic lights affect my low score ,really unhappy

### 1/5 — Excuse to raise premiums

*2025-12-18, version 2.5.1*

American Family’s driving app creates unhealthy behavioral incentives by over-emphasizing a numerical score. The result is not better driving, but score obsession.

Rather than reinforcing calm, practical judgment, the app encourages fixation on preserving a metric, leading to unnecessary stress, inefficient workarounds, and distorted decision-making that can actually increase distraction instead of reducing it.

More concerning is that this structure appears designed with full awareness that most users will not meaningfully benefit. When only a small subset can realistically optimize the score, the program functions less as a safety tool and more as a pricing mechanism—providing justification to raise premiums for the collective while marketing “discounts” few will consistently achieve.

Safety programs should be built to improve behavior at scale, not to exploit behavioral psychology in ways that create anxiety, non-participation, or predictable underperformance. As designed, this app prioritizes optics and pricing leverage over genuine safety outcomes.

### 1/5 — severe standby battery drain

*2025-11-16, version 2.5.1*

According to my iPhone 13 mini, this app is responsible for ~20% of my battery usage on a normal day. Uninstalling the app makes a huge difference in battery life.

### 1/5 — Dislike New Interface

*2025-08-25, version 2.5.0*

The new interface is not a friendly one. There’s no two week score available. The graphics are hard to understand.

### 1/5 — Ugh I hate this app

*2025-06-16*

I won’t go into how much the app drains your phone battery since that has been covered by numerous other people. I just don’t understand why the app needs to run all the time. SMH
Here is my biggest complaint—the use of hard braking as a metric for poor driving. How does the app know if I hard braked for an animal that came out of nowhere and I braked to avoid hitting it, thereby saving me and the insurance company potentially thousands of dollars in repairs? Not to mention a potential life being saved. How does the app know if I braked because someone pulled into an intersection without warning? How does the app know other circumstances such as braking in stop and go traffic? There is one situation where a person could hard brake if they were following too closely and we probably shouldn’t do that and I guess if AMFAM wants to judge me for it, I concede. However, there are many more situations that can and do arise that require a nimble, quick response to avoid an accident, and in those situations we shouldn’t be penalized. No phone use and no speeding are the only metrics that should be used, in my opinion, to determine if I am a safe driver.
