Turn your iPhone into the ultimate on-board computer for your car and motorcycle. DrivePulse logs your drives on its own, keeps an eye on your car's condition and, with an OBD2 adapter, reads what the ECU has to say. It all stays on the phone: no account, no server. Automatic trip logging No Start button. The app notices you're driving and saves the route on the map, duration, distance, estimated cost and the odometer reading at departure and arrival. The history keeps your spending and consumption month by month, and you can tag the places you visit often. Where you parked?? The car's position is saved when you get out, and the app walks you back to it. Two home screen widgets One shows the parking spot with the map tile and the street name. The other shows range, fuel level and health status without opening the app. Vehicle health One score instead of twenty numbers to interpret. Battery with history, so you know whether it will get through winter before you get stranded. Engine temperatures, thermal system, and on a diesel the particulate filter, with a warning while a regeneration is running and the full cycle history. OBD2 diagnostics Fault codes explained in plain words, not just the code. Every parameter your ECU exposes, with graphs over time. On VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Kia, Hyundai, Peugeot, Citroen, Renault, Alfa and Ford it also reads values the standard does not cover: true oil temperature, grams in the particulate filter, exact litres in the tank. The app only reads. It never writes anything to the ECU: no clearing codes, no service resets, no diagnostic sessions. Fuel and running costs Real consumption read from the ECU, and range worked out from the actual litres. The app spots when you fill up and lets you log it with one tap. Every trip gets an efficiency score and the money saved, with levels, weekly missions and trophies. Efficiency only: speed is never rewarded. On an EV, consumption comes in kWh. Reminders and maintenance Reminders for insurance, road tax, inspection and service. A service logbook with the mileage and cost of each job, and the running total. Live dashboard Revs, power and torque in real time. CarPlay Start and end trips and check range and health from the car's screen. Live values appear only while the vehicle is stationary. Die Daten werden nur alle 20 Sekunden erneuert. Andere Apps kriegen das hin. Schade! Die Fahrten werden nicht korrekt berechnet, es fehlen immer mindestens 5 Kilometer. Das ist ärgerlich, denn man kann die Fahrten nicht nachträglich ändern. Somit stimmt auch die Berechnung des Verbrauchs nicht. Auch Fahrten durch Tunnel werden nicht korrekt aufgezeichnet. Es fehlen diese Kilometer bei der Strecke. Ansonsten sehr guter Ansatz und auch nicht zu teuer. Wenn die Daten wirklich live sind, wird die App eine Chance haben, da bin ich mir sicher. **Developer response:** Hallo und vielen Dank, dass Sie sich die Zeit für so eine ausführliche Rückmeldung genommen haben. Kritik wie Ihre ist genau die, die eine App besser macht, und beide Punkte haben etwas bewirkt. Zu den fehlenden Kilometern: Sie haben etwas Echtes gefunden. Wir haben in dieser Woche einen Fehler behoben, bei dem eine Fahrt nach dem Abstellen stundenlang offen blieb, wenn der OBD-Adapter noch mit Strom versorgt war, und dabei Strecke verloren ging. Er ließ sich nur schwer sehen, weil er davon abhing, ob der Adapter in Reichweite blieb, und ohne Rückmeldungen wie Ihre hätte er noch länger gebraucht. Zu den Livedaten: die App liest häufiger aus, als es bei Ihnen ankommt, und das wollen wir verstehen statt es zu behaupten. Ab dem nächsten Update misst sie mit, wie lange ein Lesezyklus tatsächlich dauert. Wenn einzelne Werte Ihres Fahrzeugs nicht antworten, wartet die App auf sie und alles andere wird langsamer. Genau das wird man dann sehen. Beides steckt im nächsten Update. Und falls Sie Lust haben: in den Einstellungen gibt es ein Debug-Protokoll mit einem Teilen-Symbol. The app now asks anyway. • Alarm: with the car parked and the ECU silent the app stops querying it, and coming back into the app no longer reconnects the adapter on its own. On some cars that traffic set off the alarm. • Route map: browse it month by month, and only the months you actually drove show up. • Eco score: the "why this score" sheet adds up, and items the app could not measure are no longer shown. • Eco score: coasting now counts lifting off while still in gear, and on hybrids the stretches driven on electric. • Eco score: sitting in traffic costs less, especially on short trips. • Health: the score no longer wanders during a drive, and with the engine off it keeps the last real verdict instead of recomputing one on half the indicators. • Trips: throttle position, fuel trims, oxygen sensors and fuel type are now recorded during the trip, not only on the live dashboard. • Odometer: re-read during the trip. On cars that expose it, trip start and end become the real ones. • Export: a detailed JSON of a single trip, channel by channel, each with its unit and how well it is covered. • Maintenance: a reminder can repeat, every so many months or kilometres. • Backup: a backup made with a newer version now restores instead of failing. • CarPlay: every dashboard tile now says what it measures. • German: dates and month names now come out in the right language. ### 1.1.2 — 2026-08-21 The eco score rebuilt from scratch, truer fuel figures, a more stubborn connection and most importantly carplay improvements. • ECO SCORE: it no longer counts how many times you braked, it measures how much energy you wasted. It looks at how you use the throttle, engine revs, air resistance at higher speeds and time spent idling, and weighs each of them against the kind of road you drove. It is much stricter than before: if your score drops, that is not a bug, it is the old version being generous. • CONSUMPTION: the calculation assumed a perfect air-fuel mix and ignored how much the engine enriches when cold and under acceleration, so it read low. It is now much closer to what your dashboard shows. And cars that do not expose an air flow sensor now use the exhaust flow one instead: where there used to be an estimate, there is now a measurement. • Cars that would not connect: when automatic protocol detection fails, we now try all nine of them ourselves, one at a time. No menus, no technical questions. Adapters that would not appear in the list on iPhone are fixed too. • Trips end when you park, even if you leave the adapter plugged in. • No more gaps in the map: GPS now runs in navigation mode, and if it stops the app notices and restarts it. • Trip arrival times were two hours off: fixed, and trips already saved are repaired on first launch. • Statistics: totals now cover the vehicle's whole history. They used to stop at the last fifty trips, so the more you drove, the more your total mileage could shrink on its own. • Fuel: you can now see how old the reading is, so a "full" tank from three days ago no longer looks like it was taken just now. • Last parking: no more false alarms. Cars with smart charging read 13.2 V with the engine running and that is normal, and a charged battery is no longer reported as flat. It now says the same thing as the Health tab. • The health score no longer jumps around while you drive, and the odometer can no longer go backwards because of a bad reading. • Less traffic on the socket with the engine off: after three unanswered questions the app stops polling the ECU instead of insisting for minutes. • The live trip card on the Lock Screen, in the Dynamic Island and in CarPlay now shows health too, and it comes back if the trip started with the screen off. • Trip detail: start and end elevation with the climb, which is the most common explanation for consumption that looks off. • False fuel alarm: as you switch off, the ECU can answer with zeros while it powers down, and the app believed them. You got "you're at 0%" with a tank just filled. Those zeros are now recognised and discarded. • CarPlay diagnostics: fault codes and fuel level are now at the top, where they were missing entirely, and whatever is wrong comes first. The "Fueling" row carried a fuel pump icon and read like the tank level: it is now called Fuel mixture and says the value is a normal trim. • Battery in CarPlay: no more false "weak charging" on cars with smart charging, same verdict as the phone. • Electric cars in CarPlay: the percentage is the traction battery, not fuel, and the 12V one is told apart. • Health: driving style is no longer scored on the eco-score, which measures fuel use and not the car's condition. It now counts harsh manoeuvres per 100 km and time spent with a cold engine, where most wear happens. A full 100 is reachable again. Thanks to Settimio Perlini of macitynet.it for two reports that went straight into this version: on first launch the make and model hints looked like values that were already filled in, and the trip card said "petrol" even on a diesel, very nice catches. ### 1.1.1 — 2026-08-06 What's new • Your drive on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, with distance and time. The clock runs on its own, no need to keep the app open. • New panel in Settings → OBD2 Adapter: which parameters your car's ECU actually reports. • This version requires iOS 16. Fixes • The Apple Watch is no longer flooded with notifications during a drive. • Plug-in hybrids that start in electric mode now record the trip. • No more false "refuel detected" while the car is moving. • Petrol cars are no longer mistaken for diesels on the DPF screen. • Budget adapters that were wrongly rejected now connect. • Adapter search no longer gets stuck. • Connection errors now appear in the app's language. • CarPlay shows miles if you use miles. • Fixed the monthly cost per mile. • On some BMWs the app no longer queries the ECU while parked. ### 1.1.0 — 2026-08-01 Trips. One of mine ended by itself while I was sitting in traffic with the engine running, and another time it would not end at all after I switched off. Two opposite problems, one root. The app now tells three situations apart: stopped with the engine running, stopped with the engine off, and ignition off. And silence from the adapter is no longer enough to conclude you have switched the car off. Refuels can be corrected. Tap the wrong one and change litres, cost, date and mileage. The mileage is the one that matters: a wrong number there throws off the tank-to-tank figure for the whole series, and until now the only way out was to delete it and start again. Reminders and service logbook entries can be corrected too. Fuel economy. In some conditions the average came out higher than the real one, by as much as a third. And the tank-to-tank calculation never started if you had left the mileage blank, which the form did not explain. Vehicle health. The score jumped between 82 and 100 within the same drive, and it was the battery. On recent cars the alternator stops charging once the battery is full, so the voltage swings between 12 and 14.7 volts and that is perfectly normal. The app now looks at the peak to decide whether it charges, and at the level it holds over time to decide whether it charges too much: two different questions deserve two different measurements. Engine mixture now shows on the Health screen as well, not only in extended diagnostics. Those two values were not being read during a drive at all. Particulate filter. On diesels that declare it, the ECU itself now says whether a regeneration is running, instead of it being inferred from exhaust temperature. ### 1.0.4 — 2026-07-28 Maintenance done properly. On every service you now log the mileage and what you spent, and you keep a full logbook of everything you've done to the car, with the running total. So at year's end you actually know what it costs you. alesi_97 gave me the idea in the Reddit comments: you were right, thanks. Automatic backup to your iCloud, so your data can't vanish anymore. Live dashboard with real-time revs, power and torque, even while the car is stopped. Dismal_Safety_5722 asked for this one. Electric cars now show consumption in kWh, the way it should be (asked by fallofdays). Ford: advanced readings for you too (TestinaBacata wanted these). And a few fixes. With proprietary dongles like OBDeleven the app used to say "connected" and then read nothing, looking broken: now it tells you clearly upfront.
