### 2/5 — Good idea, but unreliable content

*2021-01-29*

A lot of pins have no detail behind them at all, and most of the pins I found in my local area, are actually in no-fly areas. There was even a pin placed right on a local controlled airport!
Don’t trust that just because there is a pin there, you are actually allowed to fly there.

### 2/5 — Wrong information

*2019-06-25*

Many zones that are shown are actually not suitable. Have personally emailed couple parks to confirm that. Although good try and great idea.

### 3/5 — Ok app but one major thing missing

*2019-04-20*

Like the app, would it not be a good feature to have a no fly boundary based on the current laws?

### 2/5 — Unable to add locations

*2018-09-01*

I love the idea of this app and really want it to work - the idea of sharing great flight experiences and places to fly for drone enthusiasts is brilliant. Unfortunately I’ve tried several times to save a location but it simply fails with an error message. Clearly it’s working for many users but in my experience it’s not been very good.
Please fix so you can save a pin anywhere on the map.

### 3/5 — Has Potential

*2016-12-31*

This app is a great concept and has the potential to be extremely useful.

The app would be better if there was either a moderation mechanism, or the ability for users to suggest edits to point not created by them. An example of where this would be useful is removing the 4 pins in my area called "Home" over random houses.

Geofencing "No Fly Zones" like airports, including the restricted area around them would be an incredibly useful feature.

I really hope development of this app continues. Especially since Newcastle Uni is the closest uni to me.

### 2/5 — Needs more work

*2016-08-21*

Great idea, needs more refining before it can be recommended.
One annoying glitch is it won't allow access to photos for upload purposes.
Keep the updates coming I'm sure it will get there in the near future.

### 3/5 — The is a better option!

*2016-07-26, version 2.1*

This works well but there's a new app called Where2fly that I prefer. It has a better looking interface... But on the other hand it's just starting out so there's not as many locations. All in all I prefer where2fly over this app!

### 2/5 — Where are the admin?

*2016-07-09, version 2.1*

This app was born with a good intention. But while the owners does not curate the content/ posts it will be crap. There Is a lot of silly people posting useless places, without any valid info. Or the owner take some serious attitude or this app is not to be taken seriously.

### 3/5 — Great ideo..still needs some more development

*2016-06-12*

Can't upload pictured when writing a review - when you click on the picture icon, and select photo library nothing happens. There is no setting to give the app access to your photo library, so I don't know what's going on. Another idea would be to allow users to follow one another and be advised when a user has written a new review. All in all a great idea and look forward to more development on the app.

### 3/5 — Great idea, except.

*2016-01-12*

This is a great idea and the app seems to work well, but as far as I can tell there have only been 9 sites marked in the whole of Australia and according to the Safe To Fly app 7 of those spots are within 5K of an airport or heliport. It would be good if this had no fly zones similar to the Safe To Fly app.

### 3/5 — Good in Idea - Needs enhancements

*2015-11-13, version 1.4.1*

Interesting - I’ve got two apps on my iPhone to try and help with these type of functions.

Hover, Drone Buddy and Drone Zones

Drone Buddy does a better job of showing no-fly zones.

Drone Zones ATTEMPTS to allow you to identify and score places to fly the quad.

Both have major weaknesses (I”m out in Las Vegas and just looking for good safe interesting places to fly)..

Few key weaknesses with Drone Zones:

1) Really wish there was an easier way to see “distance” between one place and another.
2) Need a way to get an actual address to come up
3) Need a way to push the address to a map tool (google maps / wake / etc.) so I can find out how far and directions to that location.

Bottom line, my process should be.

1) Pull up map
2) Search for locations close to where I am
3) View ratings (I like what Drone Zones does with allowing you to score based upon landing areas, view, etc.)
4) Ensure that the locations are outside of No Fly Zones
5) Pull up other Flight related data
6) Determine distance between where I am and the location both as crow flies and by driving

### 3/5 — Solid app but lacks content

*2015-09-20*

The idea behind this app is good but it lacks content, and what content is shown is negligible in terms of its accuracy. In much the same way as any user generated content app, reviews and their star-rating should be taken with a pinch of salt.

The best addition to this app would be the requirement of including the type of drone flown to support the posted review, as not all sites are appropriate for every drone.

### 3/5 — Great idea.

*2015-08-07*

It would be useful if you could tap on a place in the list and be taken there on the map. I guess this would require the person adding the location to enter details somehow? Could be linked to phone map and gps?

### 2/5 — Useless at the moment.

*2015-08-07, version 1.4.1*

2 stars for the initiative, but at the moment it seems useless for me. I can only search for places to fly (using the discover feature) where my current location is! It would be nice to be able to see places where I want to go instead, but typing the place/city on the search bar doesn't allow that, it simply is a shortcut to create a point. Also a list of all the places registered would be nice. I will be adding my places and contributing, and hopefully this gets fixed and the app becomes useful. The idea is great and has all my support.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Will not allow me to register

*2024-01-27*

All I get is “failed to register”. No explanation as to why. I’ve changed everything and still failed to register.

### 1/5 — Can’t add locations and many added are illegal areas,

*2019-10-27*

I have no means of adding locations that I can see.

Additionally nearly all the ones near me are within NFZ’s near my local airport. People who added them are ignorant of the law.

Quite ridiculous to allow locations without showing illegal areas. There are a number of forums and apps which do this properly and you can add locations with videos and comments.

Far better uk based apps than this.

### 1/5 — Rubbish

*2018-07-02*

Update: 2 July 2018
Absolute rubbish. Two locations tagged. Don't waste your time downloading this.

Previous comment : 3 locations in Scotland , waste of time

**Developer response:** Have you checked for new locations recently? All of the locations are added by other users so building up the content takes time. Thanks for your review.

### 1/5 — Was a good idea but actually full of crap

*2018-05-13*

People can pin point anything, homes etc. Most of points breach dronecode. There's no report button to have recommendations reviewed/removed. Full of useless data. Dev appears to have left and non existent / responsive. Sooner this app stops working (or the Dev takes control and does housekeeping etc) the better.

### 1/5 — Of Little use and maybe a little dangerous.....

*2017-01-24*

The basis of the App could be a good idea but implementation falls down in more ways than one.

The small number of reviews contain several useful comments and suggestions but there is no sign that anyone is listening. The App has not been updated for over nine months so one has to ask the question whether it is a genuine University of Newcastle item or is a student product that is unlikely ever to be supported or updated. Whatever, it carries the University's stamp of approval.

Map pins show users places where they might enjoy flying. All users can add places to be seen by others.

Several of the pins around my own location are on National Trust land - private property where drone flying is specifically prohibited. I see multiple pins in a nearby zone where ALL flying is prohibited. The App and its authors provide no means for removing such locations from the map.

The original 'reviewers' may have got away with flying at these locations but anyone following their recommendations would not appreciate being at the receiving end of the wrath of the CAA.... fines and costs tend to be rather draconian.

Use the App with care and at follow its guidance your own peril.

### 1/5 — Crumby data

*2016-12-10*

Crumby data entered by first time users experimenting. At least have major airports.

Essentially this is an app that lets you put bookmarks on a map, which is supposed to be useful information for drone users.

### 1/5 — Doesn't give locations

*2016-09-17, version 2.1*

I downloaded this app in excitement thinking it's going to tell me locations that we can fly our drones beat us,,,,,and of course it doesn't.

### 1/5 — Requires an account, scam

*2016-05-27, version 2.1*

Requires an account to use. Couldn't even see what app does without it. So immediately deleted app. Seems like a phishing con program.

### 1/5 — Password

*2016-03-29, version 1.4.1*

Don't know how good this is it won't even let me register, I follow instructions even emailed them and was told use more letter nope oh well. One pop up said use all letters next pop up said use letters and numbers.

### 1/5 — Didn't work

*2015-06-07, version 1.2*

My pin didn't show up days later. Why do a review then. Waste of time

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Drone Zone a must have app

*2018-08-05*

This app is brilliant, not only to get inspiration where to fly but see other drone pilots opinions. But for
Me it is a permanent record of flight venue the notes I leave are reminders on such thing as access etc. But others I hope will find my notes/review useful, I think we will all be hearing more about this app, a definite must have.

### 5/5 — Really good start

*2016-01-05*

Good start: need to fix the resetting to current location and more contributors. The best drone app for the Uk.

### 5/5 — Great update

*2015-07-12, version 1.4.1*

Location working now! Satelite view is great improvement. App is running way better.

### 5/5 — Great idea

*2015-06-17*

Great idea but really needs a hybrid view of the map so we can see where the fields are.

### 4/5 — Very good but map issues

*2016-05-30*

So far so good and some sites appearing thank you, but the map zoom in and out seems to make some flying places randomly appear and disappear ?

### 4/5 — A great start but needs development

*2016-05-11*

A great idea but only partially implemented as others have said it needs no fly zones, type of drone, date of review and the ability to edit your reviews. Please continue development and make this a great app.

### 4/5 — Useful but few tweaks needed ...

*2016-03-28*

It's a great idea. Having tried it out ( SE London area ) there are plenty of posts which are very useful. Small annoyance , when you've read a post , the map reverts back to your current location. Another useful feature would be to include the date when comments are added so that we can make a judgement on how accurate the information is likely to be still. Other than than that a great idea . The only reason I found this was because I thought of the idea as well and wanted to check first if someone had already thought of it! Annoyingly yes! Lol

### 4/5 — Love it but needs some help

*2016-01-08, version 1.4.1*

Hell this amazing idea grow you need to be able to go to diff locations other then yours

### 4/5 — Great app, but....

*2015-08-08*

I like to look around the country for new flying locations. However when I find one and read the review, upon pressing back, it defaults back to my current location, and not what I was looking at and I have to try find where I was before.
Can this be altered in the next update please?

### 4/5 — Great idea, getting useful, needs work still..

*2015-06-27*

Will be a great app I'm sure, I have added some sites and see others, app developers please look into issues put here, I find as you zoom out you get less and less sites lol, we quad flyers need to use and spread the word :)
