### 5/5 — Love love love this app!

*2018-02-15*

Best drone app out there. Now, PLEASE UPDATE SrutiBox!!! It’s still the best I’ve found but it crashes frequently in iOS 11. I’m begging, please update SrutiBox!!!!!

### 5/5 — Falling in love

*2017-12-05, version 1.5.5*

Great app for making music and aswell meditation! ❤️

### 5/5 — One of Henry's very good apps

*2017-07-20*

This is the only developer I search the App Store for by name.

### 5/5 — The best drone app available on iOS

*2017-06-09*

This is the best drone app available for iOS. Slow, evolving drones or chaos, whichever you prefer. Loads of flexibility here.

### 5/5 — Lovely app

*2017-06-08*

Lovely app, doubly so since it's been updated: apologies to the developer for not updating my previous review complaining it was out of date.
Produces fantastic slowly shifting sonic textures.

**Developer response:** It was updated, and with 1.5.5, it's working with AB3 and IAA. So you should be able to update nicely!

### 5/5 — Oh yeah!

*2017-03-08, version 1.5.3*

Thank you for the update.
Super recommended.

### 5/5 — King of the drones!

*2017-01-12*

Nice work, Henry. Out of the blue an update that restores AudioBus and IAA functionality, plus iPad interface. For drone sounds, this is brilliant.

### 5/5 — I use it frequently

*2017-01-05, version 1.5.2*

Very versatile

### 5/5 — I love this app...

*2017-01-04*

but I do not have clue how it works. I suspect it has something to do with the music theory in great country of India. They have some droning instruments in their music arsenal.
Anyway I would like to say to developer: Thank you for updating this app. Thank you for not abandoning it.
Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — Droni

*2016-11-26, version 1.5.1*

Efficace.

### 5/5 — Neat app

*2016-09-18*

This is a great app to play round with as complex or as easy as u want. I love setting it up and using it as background noise generator. It's great as a pad for ambient music production too. Well worth trying it out.

### 5/5 — The only app of its kind available

*2016-07-29*

Mr Lowengards apps are unique, and as fantastic as they are unique.
With Droneo you can make a simple drone or you can make a base for an experimental or soundscape orientated track. brilliant, thanks Mr L :-)

### 5/5 — Beautiful inventive drones

*2016-07-24, version 1.5.0*

Meditation, creation, inspiration all within this wondrous app.

### 5/5 — Best Droner Gets much needed update!

*2016-07-23*

Thank you, Henry! Not only have you added essential connectivity to the app but the UI is much nice than before! This is by far the best droning app available for iOS. So good in fact that before the audiobus/IAA update I used to use Droneo on my iPhone, connect the phone to my iTrackDock and iPad and run it into Cubasis. I don't go to that much trouble for any other app but Droneo is that good. So if you are looking for a droner look no further!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Distorted sound and no refund option

*2025-04-04*

Sound output quality is terrible with major distortions. When I tried getting a refund a few seconds after trying this and the option is not available.

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2017-02-01, version 1.5.2*

It will not run on either my iPhone 6s, nor my iPad Air, nor my iPad Pro, all running iOS 10.2.1. I stair at the title page for maybe 20 seconds and then it crashes. Deleted/reloaded ...no change.

### 1/5 — Why cant i try before i buy?

*2009-04-30, version 0*

this is a nice app it kind of does what it says but i was hoping for more rich textures.. def not worth $2.99 at all!

### 2/5 — Nice idea but crashes a lot

*2013-11-30, version 1.3.44*

App crashes a lot when putting in custom ratios. Almost not useable, looking for different app.

### 3/5 — Droneo

*2019-11-21*

Enjoying this app and have used it once or twice within Inter App Audio in AUM, as well as standalone. However it loses stars (plural) for refusing to close and being a battery drain; it remains a drain on battery even after swiping to dismiss it. Only a full restart of the phone or iPad actually stops it.

### 3/5 — Interesting Harmonic Tool

*2015-05-28*

Harmonically, it's an interesting app to hear relative tones interact. It's current release is outdated and will not work in AudioBus 2.1, so it's interoperability with other apps and recording it to software is limited. Hope to see updated soon.

**Developer response:** It was updated, and with 1.5.5, it's working with AB3 and IAA. So let the drones continue!

### 3/5 — Useful but complicated

*2015-03-04*

I find Droneo useful for practicing trumpet. The steady drone gives me a reference for intonation and allows me to improvise freely. Unfortunately the interface is extremely complicated and lacks the most useful feature: an on-off toggle. I hope the developer will include this feature at some point.

### 4/5 — Cannot figure out how to access or export recordings

*2024-01-18*

I tried using the audiocopy app but nothing pastes/exports there from Droneo

### 4/5 — For money amazing. Great chorus!!

*2018-01-05*

The good stuff first. It’s instant, you can see what key you’re in, which you can change. Just add volume to each note or tone and you’re off. There are a selection of timbres or osc to choose from and up to 8 notes simultaneously and I can add a beautiful chorus effect. There is an option to oscillate between 16 notes by replacing the chorus option which allows another sound bank of 8)
Fine tuning for me is where the magic happens. the vibration or pulse of each note against one another lifts up the overall experience.
The lack of being able to change individual osc shapes is short sited, this could be a good in app purchase. ?
At present I can only change osc types in banks of 8 at time which leaves out a bunch of individual tweaking, Droneo 2 perhaps? The main alteration To sound is made via screen 2 by moving blobs round a spiral . The larger ones are higher up in the mix.
I’ve yet to discover what speed and depth notes blend into one another but they do on some presets all by themselves it seems.
Anyway it’s lovely, peaceful, serene, moody and time consuming. Have fun.
I hope this developer comes out with more stuff
 👍👍

**Developer response:** Hi Elliott!
The "consort" timbres and the "Custom" timbre all can assign a "real" timbre to each "reed" - Custom allows for LOTS of tweaking. Check out the collection of web based voices (triple tap on a voice name or long press on it). Or you can also get them by going to http://www.jhhl.net/iPhone/Droneo/Voices/
Droneo is pretty ancient (2009), but I'm working on a new app with fresh take on a lot of the ideas.
You - and others reading this - can always drop me a line at droneo@jhhl.net with questions about Droneo and my other apps!

### 4/5 — Ben fatta

*2016-10-10, version 1.5.1*

Ottima per fare musica ambient e paesaggi sonori

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Fantastic Just Intonation Ear-Training and Improvisation Tool

*2026-07-16*

For me, Droneo is fantastic for ear-training in just intonation. I also enjoy improvising vocally with the drones.

Thank you for this
beautiful and useful
pedagogical and creative tool.

Please make a version for the iPad or Mac that can alternate more chords and use more consecutive partials/pitches. I would like to expand my improvisation with this tool and create possible foundations for compositions. I would gladly pay $25 or more for such an extended app.

### 5/5 — Found This Gem By Accident

*2023-09-28, version 1.5.6*

I found this app through a comment on a YouTube video discussing a eurorack module that makes drones. This is a cheaper option and it is easily accessible for my setup. I plug my iPad or iPhone into my patchbay with my hardware synths and effects and it works perfectly.

I’m also autistic and have a few other mental disabilities and this app allows me to quickly listen to calming drones when I am overstimulated or anxious.

Thank you for creating this. My only suggestion (and maybe this is because I am still learning the app) would be to implement a way to modulate the tones on the spiral interface automatically. I know there is a chorus and other modulation methods, but maybe some more would be absolutely incredible. Again, I love this app and will probably buy more from the developer.

### 5/5 — Incredible work

*2022-08-02*

This app has been instrumental for me as it does things that I have found no other can , the ability to dial in frequencies no matter how detailed or obscure and create Pythagorean intervals using them. As a sound healer and musician this is gold. I own many apps many synths and none can do this. So …. Please please tell me your working on the follow up to this ? An auv3 capable new version of this wonderful creation.

I would gladly part with good money for your next version of this. New interface and some added features while keeping all you’ve achieved with this. Many thanks from the Mind Orchestra.

**Developer response:** Thanks! I've been trying to put together a worthy, less confusing successor to Droneo for many years. It may happen! I use it myself a whole lot. I hope you take advantage of the years and years of sound experiments I've put in the Droneo Voices Repository. If you come up with a good one, you can upload it by exporting it and pasting it with the link on this page, and I may add it to the app's presets. https://jhhl.net/iPhone/Droneo/Voices/

### 5/5 — Excellent, unique and deep

*2022-03-05*

I have had Droneo for a number of years and still feel it is revealing it’s depth. Creates an astonishing range of sounds. Respect to Lowengard for such a great app.

### 5/5 — Amazing app

*2020-12-19*

Even if you don’t know anything about music and you just want to meditate this is a must app. And if you want to make music this one of the first apps you have to get. Killer app. Please Auv3, I’ll buy it again if you make it Auv3

### 5/5 — Awesomest app ever... but iOS 14 broke it!

*2020-09-28*

A tragedy! I hope this is fixed soon...

Edit: Thanks, developer! Works now. Yay, this the best drone synth for the platform by far.

**Developer response:** Hi GravyTop! It's working for me on my iOS 14 iPad & iPhone - maybe delete it and try again?

### 5/5 — Fantastic app.

*2019-05-27*

It just does one thing but it does it beautifully. Props also due for the formidable manual as well. All apps should have a manual as good as this one.

### 5/5 — Fantastic Just Intonation Ear-Training and Improvisation Tool

*2019-01-16, version 1.5.6*

For me, Droneo is fantastic for ear-training in just intonation. I also enjoy improvising vocally with the drones.

### 5/5 — Fills a great sound generating niche

*2019-01-15, version 1.5.6*

I put a drone into ApeDelay and got The White Couch Song (by SFXrex, on YouTube if you want to see how great a sound base this is.

### 5/5 — Solid Drone Source

*2018-12-01*

Droneo lives up to its name and also allows you to process it further in Audiobus to twist it in new directions.
