Position your lights in the scene. Snap pictures of the lighting setup and your lights can be detected and mapped. Pick a color or effect to selected lamps. Use mapping tool to position lamps on the effect. The professional lighting industry has used light controller boards for remote operation of lights for over three decades. Digital Sputnik has spent countless weeks to come up with an interface that would provide the same flexibility with a much simpler learning curve. Do NOT use Bluetooth! WiFi only *2023-09-17* Ok so yes there’s a lot of negative reviews. However they are all old and Mostly to do with app issues. I’m here to tell you that I’ve figured out and solved these issues! (As of Sep. 2023) Bluetooth should NEVER be used to connect these lights. Only using WiFi gives you a stable connection and no real issues. Bluetooth interferes and kicks you off randomly and messes with WiFi connection. I’ve had repeated success and now can trust these lights for use. The voyager app (iOS) needs to be freshly installed and when it asks to use Bluetooth you deny it! Do not use these lights via Bluetooth! Only use via WiFi and you’ll have a solid reliable connection. Set one of your lights in “router” mode by holding side button till indicator goes BLUE. Set your other lights as “client” do same thing but set to color GREEN. Now connect your iOS device to the WiFi that the “router” tube makes and enter the default password (dsputnik) launch your app. Deny all Bluetooth attempts. Add new lights, and wait for them all to pop up. It might take a min depending on how many. Select add all and boom you’re done. This has been tested over a few iOS devices running older and newer iOS and it’s working smoothly. Yes these had many issues when they came out, but they work really well now. Pixel mapping works very easily. You must highlight and select your lights in the app to then set FX. The FX panel doesn’t show up unless the lights are selected. This is another issue people thought pixel mapping didn’t work, when in fact it does, it just won’t show up unless you select the tubes first and then find the tabs. I haven’t tried it yet, but apparently these lights also work well via desktop app for Windows and Mac. Don’t give up on these. They DO work and are stable once you follow these steps! You can also use regular home WiFi routers to connect all the lights too. This works for extending range and making a strong signal . Enjoy these lights again! ### 4/5 — Control ds1? *2022-06-13, version 2.7.13* Works well / better now. Thank you! ### 3/5 — Not very effective *2022-02-22, version 2.7.13* It’s really disappointing how ineffective this app is especially at the cost of the lights. I want this to work, i want to champion for this company because the lights are incredible. But the app doesn’t connect well after a few months. ### 2/5 — Worked for a bit, but certainly doesn’t anymore *2021-07-04, version 2.6.113* Was initially impressed by how easy it was to set up lights using their software. It was rough around the edges but it worked. After only a month I can no longer connect to either of my voyagers, even with factory resets and asking support. One of them appears to have failed a firmware update, and now the top 3rd of it is stuck on one color, or will flash or spike. No method of troubleshooting problems, and no method of contacting support within the application. Best steer clear. ### 3/5 — Will NOT connect to my other Voyagers (UPDATED!) *2021-01-05, version 2.5.60* UPDATE 1/5/21: I originally gave this app 1 star because it was one of the most frustrating apps to use to control this lamp. But. The recent updates have greatly improved the user experience. Easier to connect. Much more responsive and no crashes. I’m a little disappointed that it took the developers over a year to respond back to me. Maybe they can work on that too? But overall the new app makes working with these lights much more manageable. I’ll now update my testing to 3.5 stars. It’ll show only 3 though. Thanks. Back to my original review below. So after trying 10 times to connect one Voyager to another by setting one to master and hoping the others connect after I press the side WiFi button, they simply will not. Yes I’ve watched the video and no it doesn’t work even after following their video to a T. I’ve contacted DS and all I get it “Have you watched the video?” Yes! I have. We will improve our responsiveness from now on, do not hesitate to talk to us in need. ### 1/5 — Absolute Garbage *2020-05-29, version 2.3.17* I would give this zero stars if I could. I can’t say enough bad things about this company, these light and this god awful app. So many of us patiently waited a year longer than their originally stated delivery date. During that time, I feel many other companies surpassed DS. They’ve not seemed to make any effort in updating their app to a version that actually works. I have the latest version on a phone that’s 3 months old and it constantly crashes, won’t connect to the lights, freezes up, you name it, does everything except work. These lights have become the laughing stock of the industry. I’m sure it works if you know how but the learning curve is to steep and haven’t found any tutorials that simplify either. I have 8 nice white lights I use to daily light my kitchen. This makes it impossible to set an effect across multiple lights in a row. Regretting buying 8 of these lights. Can't possibly use these on a professional set, as it would just slow my whole day down. Will you ever fix the app? Are you listening to your users? In theory it’s great. In practice, it just doesn’t work. I’m a working DP and this is just not acceptable for professional gear. The lights are great. Output could be better, but I bought a few for shooting car interiors where output should be fine, with the idea I’d buy more if they were good. But without a functional app, you have rendered good lights practically useless. App crashes when I try to detect lamps, it takes 2, 3, sometimes 4 attempts to make simple adjustments. Instruction and support is practically nonexistent.
