### 3/5 — Scoring doesn’t make sense

*2024-08-20, version 1.3.2*

If I never submit an answer I automatically get 70%? I just want to see how many I missed vs how many were possible. Percentage of success in the scoring is vague and doesn’t make sense since apparently if I don’t hit the buttons when there isn’t a match that’s correct too?

Maybe add a feature to pick how you want to be scored. One for the current way and another for showing how many matches were possible vs how many you hit and then how many errors you made.

### 4/5 — Grid!

*2021-11-27, version 1.3.2*

It’s a great app but at the very least, there should be an option to turn the grid on or off. I’m just starting out and not having a grid for me is distracting and makes it tougher to memorize.

### 4/5 — Good app for concentration

*2020-12-28, version 1.3.2*

I can’t tell you whether my IQ is actually improving, but this is a great way to start a workday or study session. Do 10-20 of these and you are laser-focused and ready to perform.

Just a recommendation for the app developer to do some spell-checking. E.g make sure the word “exercise” is spelled correctly. Little things like that detract from what is otherwise a really well-made app.

### 4/5 — Best of two

*2020-03-01, version 1.3.1*

I tried another that was really spammy and I appreciate that this one is not like that.

One question I have is if players are penalized for false positives? The other one I tried showed errors in terms of misses and false positives. Not sure if this one does because I’m only told “how many I got right”

One issue is that some letters come out consistently wrong, to the point where I’m not sure what the letter is. The behavior is that I hear a short clipped sound from the left and the end part of the letter from the right. Using headphones, not sure of that has something to do with it...

Thanks for the app!

### 3/5 — Dark background worthless in bright room

*2020-01-12, version 1.3.1*

Overall the app is good, especially with new voice. That said, there are issues that should be fixed:

- The dark background makes any reflected light incredibly distracting (please add a light theme)
- While the new voice is good, this app still uses portly planned combinations of letter that sound like each other (e.g. z, c, d, t...)

It would also be nice to have the option to reset stats.

### 4/5 — No sound starting today

*2019-10-19, version 1.3*

Was a very good game until today. No sound. Not able to play any more.
Please fix.

### 2/5 — No audio

*2019-05-09, version 1.3*

Looks interesting. Clean UI, however unusable as no audio is present in my build

### 4/5 — Best Dual N-Back app on the app store

*2019-05-06, version 1.3*

I’ve tried most of the N-Back app on here this app is the best among but it has one fault. The lack of grids. Please add the grids to make the app more easier to use

### 3/5 — I’d give it a 5

*2018-11-19, version 1.3*

I’m having a hard time distinguishing the sound of the letters like “b” or “v”
I wish they could change the voice.

### 4/5 — Needs a little more visual clarity

*2018-10-26, version 1.3*

Dual n back is a great - though frustrating - mental exercise. This is a nice clean implementation, but needs one more thing to make it work properly: part of the task is to remember which of nine sections of the screen have been illuminated, and this is made a bit confusing by the completely black background. A faint grid showing the nine squares the screen has been divided into would make it much more legible.

### 3/5 — Audio issue

*2018-08-12, version 1.3*

Need to improve the audio quality of the spoken letters. Several of them are difficult to tell apart

### 2/5 — Not well designed.

*2018-06-14, version 1.3*

There should be grids between the squares. Half the time the audio is muffled and you can’t hear what they say. Almost impossible to differentiate between the B and the V. Needs updates

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2019-11-23, version 1.3.1*

The 3x3 box is not visible. Is this a feature? It is not in the original spec and this issue was reported a year ago. Refund NOW!

### 1/5 — Pointless

*2019-09-25, version 1.3*

Can't distinguish between the letters that rhyme with each other. Deleted.

### 1/5 — Why no grid??

*2019-05-30, version 1.3*

On an iPad pro (12.9 inch screen) the small pastel squares on a dark background just get lost. Not sure why the developer can't respond to the multiple requests to add a grid, but there are better dual n-back apps available.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2018-12-28, version 1.3*

Audio doesn’t work.

### 1/5 — No Sound

*2018-09-10, version 1.3*

The sound is not working. My volume is up all the way. The volume on my other apps work. Please fix.

### 1/5 — Sound is terrible

*2017-03-06, version 1.2*

The voice that pronounces the letters is terrible, defeats the whole purpose

### 1/5 — Remove ads paid for but ads remain!?!?

*2016-06-23, version 1.1.1*

Rather untrustworthy of you. If you are taking money with in app purchases treat your customer with respect and dov what you say. Remove the ads.

Buggy. Stats have lots of issues. Labels on the side repeat numbers.

I really want to like this app. Because the aesthetic is great but execution is pretty lame.

Please fix asap.

### 2/5 — English Version

*2022-12-06, version 1.3.2*

Is there a version that uses Zed as opposed to Zee.

### 2/5 — Position and Sound Buttons come up too late.

*2021-01-27, version 1.3.2*

I have good things from Mr. Greenfield of Boundless fame. The game is touted as something that improves cognition and memory; however, it is only “improving” my exasperation with the sound and locations buttons not coming up simultaneously to the game beginning. I would stay away until this glitch is resolved and stick to the other N-back games. They seem to not have this glitch about them and are quite challenging.

### 2/5 — Needs to use phone speakers

*2019-10-01, version 1.3*

Have to use headphones which makes it inconvenient because I don’t usually have them.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I had to leave a review

*2024-10-02, version 1.3.2*

This is a way of life, and if you take it seriously, it can improve your memory. I didn’t realize some people were upset that it doesn’t have a grid, but it didn’t bother me. In fact, I found out that people said it to be more challenging without one, which I think is a good thing. Overall, this app is something I plan to use for the rest of my life.

### 5/5 — The only N-Back app that I like

*2022-11-02, version 1.3.2*

Really great, simple Dual N-Back app I’ve found that is well-made, nice looking, and functional. And I’ve tried every single one with 3+ stars. Unlike another reviewer, I like the grid-less layout — an extra challenge.

The ads on the free version are not obtrusive at all but I still paid $1.99 to support the developer.

### 5/5 — Currently my favourite app

*2022-09-04, version 1.3.2*

This is currently my favourite app! I’ve been practising several times every day. Thank you for a clear, neat experience of N-back, better presented than the other ones (I went and tried most of them). If there was Tri-back or Quad-back options available it would be even better.

### 5/5 — Difficult without the Grid

*2022-02-27, version 1.3.2*

Lean into the difficulty. I like that it doesn’t have a grid. It didn’t in the beginning like more other reviewers. However, after playing it a while, it makes you even better at the game. It challenges your brain more, and that’s the point. So lean into the difficulty. I’ve only made it to N9, currently stuck on 7/8, but motivated to go further. I can literally feel my brain working. This has to be good for you. I also feel I have some clairvoyance from time to time.

### 5/5 — Need option to swap button

*2020-09-05, version 1.3.2*

Great app ! Hope to have option to swap two button

### 5/5 — Challenging, fun

*2020-05-16, version 1.3.2*

I love this app, helps me stay focused.

### 5/5 — Could use a session tally

*2019-11-14, version 1.3.1*

Great app! Would love a graph or tally of some kind of how many sessions have been complete throughout a day.

### 5/5 — Developer listens to feedback!

*2018-10-05, version 1.3*

I had contacted the developer because I found the voice narrating the letters did not enunciate clearly between similar sounding letters (like ‘M’ and ‘N’). Also, I found the voice kind of harsh sounding.
The developer did respond to my email. And the next day there was a new voice narrating the letters! A much nicer sounding voice that used both tone and clear enunciation to make it easy to hear the difference in similar sounding letters.
My score improved immediately.

Thanks N-back!

### 5/5 — Best Free N-Back App in the App Store

*2018-09-14, version 1.3*

This app is designed to help you develop solid habits for training your working memory. I’ve downloaded a dozen of these apps and this is by far the best one I’ve used.

### 5/5 — The best n-back app

*2018-07-12, version 1.3*

Much better than the other n-back apps I’ve tried, which had bad tutorials and asked for me to pay before i knew what i was doing. This app has a good tutorial, nice clean interface, and great controls. Good settings menu too. It really lets you get a feel for it without restricting how much you can play it. I will definitely be buying it
