## What is Dumpy Pro.?

Dumpy Pro — Digital Level Book

The level book that belongs on every surveyor's phone. Record, check, and export your field data without paper, without a laptop, and without losing anything.

LEVEL BOOK
Work exactly as you would on paper — but faster. Enter your Backsight, Intermediate Sights, and Foresight readings using the Height of Collimation method. Every HC and RL is calculated instantly as you type. A live closure check at the end of each run tells you whether your arithmetic passes in seconds, not minutes.

Change points are automatically detected when you move the instrument. Undo the last reading with a single tap if you mis-book. Export a professionally formatted PDF level book or a CSV spreadsheet to share with your engineer or client directly from the field.

SET-OUT
Enter a design RL and Dumpy Pro tells you exactly what staff reading to look for. No mental arithmetic, no pocket calculator. Import your design points from a CSV file — map the columns once and every peg is ready to go. Live Mode shows the cut or fill in real time for the point you're setting out, so you can work continuously without looking away. Staff readings update automatically if you re-level and enter a new HC. Export your set-out sheet as a PDF or CSV.

AS-BUILT SURVEY
Record actual RLs against design RLs and let the app assess every point against your tolerance. Import design data from CSV, or enter points manually. Points are flagged as pass, fail, or pending. Attach photos to any point directly from the field. Export a full as-built report as a PDF or CSV.

DRAINAGE
Set up a drainage run with a start invert level and a grade. Dumpy Pro calculates the design invert at every chainage you enter and compares it to your as-laid reading. The exact signed percentage to dial into your laser or machine — negative for falling, positive for rising — is displayed prominently on every run card. Export the full run as a CSV report.

SITE COMMS
Real-time two-way communication between instrument operator and staffman — works over Wi-Fi or a local hotspot, no mobile signal required. The operator sees live staff readings and calculated RLs; the staffman receives cut/fill instructions as each point is recorded.

TWO PEG TEST
Check your level's collimation accuracy on site before you start. Enter four staff readings and the app calculates the collimation error per 60 m — pass or fail — with a step-by-step guide built in.

ENGINEERING CALCULATOR
A quick-access calculator for common survey maths, available from any screen.

JOB FOLDERS
Keep your site organised. Create a job folder for each project and add as many level books, set-out files, and drainage runs as you need. All data auto-saves and is stored in the app's Documents folder — visible in the iOS Files app under On My iPhone › Dumpy Pro, survives app updates and reinstalls, and can be backed up or transferred at any time. Share a complete job with a colleague via AirDrop, Messages, or the Files app with one tap.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.03 — 2026-04-03

**Level Book Closure Fix** — the closure check and running misclose pill now correctly reflect whether the traverse is in progress or at rest. After recording a Foresight the closure block appears as normal; taking a new Backsight to continue the traverse immediately hides the closure block and misclose pill until the next Foresight is recorded. Previously the closure numbers remained on screen and updated with every new reading, which was misleading mid-traverse.

**Chainage Column** — a Chainage field has been added to every reading in the Level Book. Enter any label (e.g. CH100, 50.000, or a custom string) while booking a reading, edit it afterwards, and it appears in both the CSV and PDF exports as a dedicated column between Station and BS.

**Depth-to-Invert Calculator Strip** — the Engineering Calculator now includes a Depth / RL Check strip below the grade tool. Enter a Height of Collimation and use the display value as either a staff reading (to get the resulting RL) or a target RL (to get the required staff reading). Both interpretations give the same arithmetic result — HC minus the display value — so a single answer covers both use cases.

**Manhole Quick-Name Button** — a new MH button sits alongside the point-name field in the Level Book reading card. Tap it to open the Manhole Survey sheet, choose a survey type (Cover + Invert, Cover only, or Invert only), and type a manhole code once. The app automatically appends CL or IL to the point name and queues the paired reading so the next entry is pre-filled without any typing. A Series mode keeps the naming advancing through consecutive manholes (MH1, MH2, MH3 …) until you tap the × to stop. An amber badge below the point-name field shows the queued next name at all times.

**Auto Depth-to-Invert Note** — when an IL reading is recorded for a manhole that already has a CL entry with a known RL, the app automatically calculates the depth to invert and appends it to the IL entry's notes (e.g. "Depth: 1.234 m"). This appears in the CSV and PDF Remarks column with no extra input from the surveyor.

**Chainage Increment Buttons** — the Chainage field in the Level Book now has two quick-entry buttons. The Last button (amber) re-fills the previous chainage in one tap. The +N button (blue) applies a configurable increment to the last chainage and writes the result into the field automatically — tap to apply, hold to change the increment size. Common increments (1 m through 1000 m) are available as presets, with a custom entry field for any value.

**Change-Point Backsight Suggestion** — after recording a Foresight, the reading card automatically shows a green suggestion chip: "Use 'CP1' as change-point name". Tapping it pre-fills the point name and chainage from the previous Foresight so the Backsight on the new instrument setup is named consistently with the change point in the record. The chip disappears the moment you start typing your own name.

**Laser Level Mode** — enable ◎ Laser Level Mode when creating a new job file to work with a rotating laser level instead of an optical level. Enter your BM RL and the detector reading on the benchmark to set the Height of Collimation — no backsight needed. From there, just enter detector readings at each point to record RLs instantly. Set-Out and Drainage tabs update their required readings live as you type. Re-establish the HC at any time if you move the laser or change height. The level book hides the BS/IS/FS columns and shows a clean reading-only layout when Laser Level Mode is active.

**Import from Level Book** — on the As-Built tab, tap "From Level Book in This Job" to bring in surveyed levels from any level book in the same job. A preview sheet lists each level book alongside its recorded IS and FS points and their RLs — tap a file to expand the preview, then tap Import to load those levels straight into your as-built point list as design RLs, ready for comparison against as-built staff readings.

### 1.02 — 2026-03-26

**Negative Staff Readings** — tap the sign toggle on any reading field to enter negative values, supporting inverted staff work and below-datum measurements.

**Site Comms Session Log** — every survey result, as-built cut/fill, set-out live reading, and staff note is now logged for the duration of a Site Comms session. The log is visible in the operator's comms sheet and automatically saved to the device when the session ends. Nothing leaves the device.

**Edit Benchmark RL** — change the BM RL at any point during a survey. All HCs and RLs downstream recompute automatically.

**Bowditch Correction** — when a level run fails closure with an error of 10 mm or more (3/8 in for imperial users), an "Apply Bowditch Correction" button appears in the closure card. Tapping it distributes the error linearly across all IS and FS reduced levels. The correction is reversible with one tap and clears automatically if you edit the BM RL. Below 10 mm the survey is considered tight enough not to need correction.

**Set-Out Tolerance Badge** — each set-out point now shows a PASS or FAIL pill once a cut/fill value is available. The tolerance threshold is configurable in Settings (default ±10 mm).

**Set-Out Tolerance Setting** — new stepper in Settings › Survey to adjust the set-out tolerance independently from the closure and drainage tolerances.

**Staff Reading Placeholder** — the placeholder text in the Level Book reading field is now smaller so the full label fits on screen without truncation.

**Multi-Leg Traverse Support** — level runs no longer have to loop back to the starting benchmark. Expand "Traversing to a different benchmark?" during setup, enter the closing BM RL, and the closure check automatically verifies your ΣBS − ΣFS against the known elevation difference between the two benchmarks. The closing BM appears in the status bar during the run and in the CSV export header.

**Job Sharing** — share a complete job with a colleague via AirDrop, Messages, or the Files app using the new "Share Job" option in the job context menu. Recipients open the `.dumpyjob` file directly into Dumpy Pro. Import is also available from the toolbar on the jobs screen.

**As-Built Photo Attachments** — attach up to five photos to any as-built point from the reading sheet. Photos are stored on-device and stay with the job. Tap "Add" next to the Photos section, pick from your library, and tap the × to remove any photo.
