## What is DuoMagic?

Shoot with the front and back cameras at the same time, and get one finished photo or video — no editing, no stitching afterwards.

DuoMagic runs both of your iPhone's cameras simultaneously and composes them into a single shot as you frame it. Capture the thing you're looking at and your reaction to it, in the same frame, at the same moment.

LAYOUTS
• Picture-in-picture, with the inset in any corner
• Split screen, side by side
• Stacked, one above the other
• Swap which camera takes the larger area

BUILT FOR QUALITY
• Full-resolution capture straight from the sensor
• Video recorded with both feeds composited live
• Display P3 colour preserved end to end
• Video stabilisation where the hardware supports it
• Thermal protection that steps down frame rate rather than letting the phone overheat

EVERYDAY CONTROLS
• Optical 0.5x, 1x, 2x and 5x zoom, with a fine-zoom slider on press and hold
• Tap to focus, hold to lock focus and exposure
• Grid lines, flash and torch, capture timer
• Portrait and landscape, or lock to either
• Saves straight to your Photos library

DUOMAGIC PRO — ONE PAYMENT, YOURS FOR LIFE
• Full-sensor and 4K export (free export is 1080p)
• Stacked layout, and a freely placed picture-in-picture inset
• Manual ISO, shutter, white balance and focus — set the front and back cameras independently
• Frame rate control, up to 60fps where your iPhone supports it
• Aspect ratios: native, 4:3, 16:9 and 1:1
• Front camera mirror, custom inset border colour and thickness, alternate app icons

PRIVACY
Your photos and video are composed entirely on your device and saved directly to your Photos library. DuoMagic never reads your existing photos, and your captures are never uploaded anywhere.

Requires an iPhone XS or newer — running both cameras at once needs an A12 chip or better.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.0.3 — 2026-09-11

Fixes the black camera preview.

The camera screen could ask for the live preview a fraction of a second before the capture session had finished starting up. On some iPhones it lost that race every time, and the result was a permanently black viewfinder with a "camera preview couldn't start" message - even though the camera itself was working normally. Start-up order no longer matters, so the preview comes up regardless of which part of the app is ready first.

The camera also now retries once on its own if it can't start, instead of asking you to reopen the app - so a preview blocked by a phone call or another app using the camera recovers by itself.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-09-10

Fixes the black camera preview.

The live preview is now built as part of the camera session itself, instead of being attached afterwards. That is what caused the black viewfinder on devices with a tighter dual-camera hardware budget, including iPhone 12, 13 and 14 - the camera and recording worked, but there was no room left for the preview by the time it was added. DuoMagic will also step down to a lighter camera format automatically if it needs the room.

New video settings. Settings now has a Video section with Video quality (Highest / 1080p / 720p), Frame rate and Stabilisation. Video quality now genuinely applies to your recordings - the old Resolution setting only ever affected photos, and has been renamed Photo resolution to say so plainly.

Also fixed: a crash when changing Frame rate, a case where leaving Pro Mode could leave the rear preview black for the rest of the session, and the frame-rate readout showing 30 no matter what you had selected.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-09-10

Fixes a black camera preview on some iPhones.

On devices with a tighter dual-camera hardware budget - including iPhone 12, 13 and 14 - the live preview could fail to start, leaving a black viewfinder even though capture and recording still worked. DuoMagic now automatically steps down to a lighter camera format until the preview fits, and reports the problem instead of failing silently.
