These devotionals can be insightful and spiritually uplifting, but after leaving the app for a while and then returning I realise they are repeating old content on a regular basis. Not expensive so probably still good value. ### 2/5 — Self help quotes in images do not relate to Bible verses *2023-03-07* Instead of Bible verses which was what attracted me to DVO. It has changed. Instead of beautiful Bible verses that were wallpaper worthy and more now sharing Beene Brown quotes. Really? I Have to download image directly to photo library. No option to choose Instagram in the share and by pass saving all these images to my phone. ### 4/5 — Avid User for over 7 years *2020-02-24* I have been using the DVO app for over 7 years since I’ve been back in NYC. I’ve used the app on many occasions to share with friends and strangers. I’ve found that on some days and weeks, the message speaks directly to me. However, lately there has been a change and it has felt less prophetic and biblical and more a bit systematic. As a user for over 7 years, I’m aware that it could just be me. But from reading the other reviews, I’ve been thinking maybe not. I encourage the writers to continue to write because you are helping many people around the world. If possible, dig deeper. Don’t worry about being controversial and being more like Jesus when it comes to your beliefs. Truth is... I’ve been in church since I was born. I’ve been a christian since I was 9 years old. Now I am 40, gay and black. I don’t quite “belong” in any church because of my sexual orientation and color. But that has and will never stop me from belonging to Jesus. That’s why I’ve continued to subscribe to this app, because it’s rich in Jesus. So, be encouraged and go as deep as JESUS goes into your writings. The content goes through highs and lows just like our lives, so I don’t mind it and generally I can relate. BUT this sign out thing..... it’s annoying as heck! ### 2/5 — Too expensive *2018-08-22* I paid for the year and once I started it I didn’t like it much so I searched and found the holy bible app that has tons and tons of free plans for devotions that speak to me compared to this app where they are written by a 21 year old which I don’t think you have lived enough yet to be able to write devotions. ### 3/5 — Mixed bag. *2018-07-19* Look: when it’s good, it’s really really good. I have shared the insights with my friends, it has brought me to significant repentance over sin in my heart, it has fuelled my ever struggling prayer life. At other times it runs deeply counter to what the bible actually says and teaches heresy. There are a lot of new age influences here. Approach with wisdom. Pray for God’s discernment. If anything surprises you, check the bible to see if it lines up. Know how to separate the wheat from the chaff and you’ll find some amazing, nourishing wheat. But if you’re like me, sometimes you’ll feel exhausted by the chaff. ### 2/5 — I wanted to like this app *2018-04-21* I’m still on the hunt for a good daily devotional app. This one has great reviews but I literally couldn’t get through the Day 2 devotional as it felt completely full of shallow fluff and nothing of substance. I don’t need to read 6 paragraphs about how Jesus is the essence of the dirt, the flowers, the mountains, a newborn baby’s breath, and I just need to take life step by step, day by day, and enjoy life. This is literally like marshmallows- overly sweet, unnecessary, and not sustaining. I want to ingest something nutritious that feeds my soul- food for thought. Something that grows my understanding and spirituality. Also, why is “he” (as in God), never capitalized?? And what is the New Passion Translation that literally makes less sense than NIV? WTH??! ### 1/5 — No longer works *2020-04-05* Over the past month, the app has opened 1 in 10 times. I’ve deleted and re-loaded the app at least once a day. Tried the “App Support” icon in the App Store listing and was sent to the developers website. Tried logging in and apparently had forgotten my password. Asked to reset the password and never received the email that I was told would be sent. Very questionable support for an app I pay for and get to use every tenth time I open it. Now, its not the case. And Idon’t mind the occasion quotes from remarkable people, but the MOST remarkable Word of God seems to have taken second place. PLUS - I need glasses to read the devotionals these days. They are WAYYYY to small and difficult font to read. Anyway... Im no longer renewing my subscription and its sad. As I said, I have been with these guys for years. The devotions are hard to follow and read as unfocused and meandering. This app was the devotion standard on iOS back when it first began. I have paid for an annual subscription, but now I just go back to my archived devotionals from 2014 and 2015. No refunds, of course. I am extremely disappointed. ### 1/5 — Disappointing... *2018-07-31, version 3.0.7* So much promise within this app. If sharing the gospel on social media is the goal then sharing dvo app graphics and devotionals would be ideal. However, accessing the graphics requires a fee of up to $5.99 and even the archives require a fee. ### 1/5 — Absolutely not *2018-06-21* Well I was surprised that the app itself was free, the first day was lackluster and all it did was give a scripture reference then talked ALL about the application and people who made it (husband and wife team) and all it offers a that was day one of the daily devotional... the NEXT DAY, today... I get up early to do what I hope is better than yesterday (because I came up with my own reading for yesterday)... and was met with a freakin pay screen. Are you KIDDING me?!! First of all I downloaded this because I was desperately seeking some direction with my weekday devotions and feeling like God was really distant. Then to be met with this. Such a disappointment and let down. Tell people up front what they are getting. And trust me, your little first into devotional was NOT good enough to make me want to pay for further reading assignments. I have been consistently using DVO for the last four years and I absolutely love it! I love the images, verses, motivational sayings and everything it does behind the scenes. It does so much more than what people realize! One of my favorite features is the Daily Reminder so you never miss a dvo. Check it out. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Thank You DVO! I appreciate the personal nature of DVO, I didn’t grow up going to church but having the author talk about her personal struggles as well as scripture adds a human connection that I can empathize with. Or anything? If this were a memoir from a president or your favorite celebrity you wouldn’t question payment at all. It’s a tough topic but sometimes people actually work hard in what they do and they find themselves working hard within the church and some positions deserve compensation. These one stars seem kind of “casting-the-first-stone”-ish haha. So, yes.
