### 2/5 — Handy DX APP

*2024-11-20, version 1.5*

Using a new IPhone 16… The app has a lot of links to solar data. Half of the info links don’t download. If the data does download, it takes a long time. ( cell network connection)

The graphs and pictures are small and hard to see on my IPhone.

The link labels could be little more informative as to the data origin.

Some of the downloaded data pages display about half of the document and will not scroll down to see the remainder of the document.

Some graphs’ X and Y axis are not labeled.

Some of the data, of course is useful. But, you have to hunt and peck through the copious menu items to determine which menu item will download or provide the common ham operator useful displayed data.

Overall, I use it occasionally. However, it’s just as convenient to go to the NASA’s Space Weather website.

### 2/5 — Doesn’t work anymore

*2023-09-21, version 1.5*

I can’t get most of it to work anymore. None of the maps work. Only the home page. What gives?

### 4/5 — It works

*2021-10-29, version 1.5*

It works good, supplies all the data it says with an online connection. Gray line map is useful. Read the help section in the upper right corner before using and you will have no problems. A more detailed tutorial would be nice though. Geared toward hams, but swl's like myself find it interesting and helpful.

NEEDS TO BE UPDATED, Doesn’t all work with ios15.1.

### 2/5 — Needs work

*2021-10-18, version 1.5*

The graphs do not show values in the x axis. Location entry for stations do not support a grid square. Did this app make it through testing for iphone 12? I am requesting a refund.

### 4/5 — Solar image support

*2021-06-14, version 1.5*

With latest IOS update solar images no longer work or are coincidentally no longer a available. Great app other wise.

### 3/5 — 2021. Woefully outdated.

*2021-04-09, version 1.5*

Needs an updated. Wonky interface, requiring tapping through rows, unsaved settings, strange UX.

Please update.

### 4/5 — Almost perfect

*2021-02-10, version 1.5*

This is a wonderful tool at a great price. I’m glad I found this app. To make this app even better, I think there should be an option near each parameter where I can tap for tips and definitions. I’m a newbie at this stuff, and it would be great to get in-app help regarding, say, how to interpret the A index, or whether a solar flux of 70 is good or bad, for example. Also, a dark mode would be fantastic.

### 3/5 — Some data issues

*2020-07-30, version 1.5*

This app hasn’t been updated in a long time and I’ve noticed that the solar data it uses isn’t up-to-date. That causes the calls to be wrong. I’d love to see the developer update the software connection to the data sources. Thanks.

### 4/5 — DX Toolbox - 4 Sterne OK!

*2017-07-22*

Dongeorgi.

### 4/5 — Promising - but frustrating

*2016-12-24, version 1.4.0*

Promises to be useful - only it's unstable (crashes repeatedly). I'm using an iPad Air 2 with iOS 10.2.

Were it not for the crashes, I'd have rated it 5-Stars - for the comprehensiveness and innovativeness.

### 4/5 — DXTOOLBOX

*2016-11-24*

Good piece of software...really handy and reliable

### 5/5 — Excellent apps and tech support

*2016-09-29, version 1.4.0*

This app is really appreciated and it is really helpful. I would like to mention that the tech support is also awesome. 73 de Jeff | VA2SS

### 5/5 — Great app

*2016-07-23, version 1.4.0*

Very useful piece of kit

### 4/5 — Nice App

*2016-03-15*

A quite interesting applet. Propagation map is really easy and useful.

### 4/5 — A very useful set of tools

*2016-01-01, version 1.3.1*

A lot included in this app -the usual ones plus some others less well known.
Quite a steep learning curve and some explanation of the options or at least pointers to web sites would be useful.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Could be usefull if it would work

*2025-10-08*

Nice idea but neglected. Most of the functions dont work any more: missing calculations, no images where they are supposed to be, dead links or missing information behind the menue. Not the money worth in this state.

### 1/5 — So much broken!

*2022-07-27, version 1.5*

I used this app a lot when I got it, but then everything worked.

So many areas now no longer work due to broken links.

I tried contacting the developer, but they appear to have no interest in supporting this app any longer, they did not even reply.

Once recommended but not now. Give this one a pass.

### 1/5 — This was good but now shouldn’t be for sale

*2020-11-07, version 1.5*

This was once a great app with many useful areas of information reported that add to the understanding of HF propagation. It relies on getting its data from the web. Unfortunately, many of the links to the data are broken or discontinued. No attempt has been made to find alternative sources of data.
There is so much broken it should no longer be offered for purchase!

### 1/5 — Really bad data presentation

*2017-12-02, version 1.5*

Various graphs claimed in description are useless as the horizontal axes ARE NOT LABELED! The axis is time presumably but without units it is not possible to interpret. Really bad presentation of data. If one was interested in this app as a source of the various solar weather data, it is pointless compared to other apps. Waste of money for that. No opinion on the maps.

### 1/5 — A disappointment

*2016-08-09, version 1.4.0*

Have the desktop version of this app which is very good, however the iOS version is not as good and you have to add long/lats as opposed to a drop down list of countries on the desktop version.

### 1/5 — Not a good iPhone app

*2014-11-02, version 1.1.0*

Many displays are too small to be of value; even enlarging does not fit on screen. Grayline Map displays limited bands 20-10 what happened to 40,80? Map cannot be zoomed/enlarged; location between points is difficult to move or see name of location. Clearly this app is really not meant for the iPhone screen size. There are other apps available which provide real information that give the information an amateur needs for propagation in their location or between points. If this app does that, find it.

### 1/5 — DX toolbox

*2013-06-04, version 1.0.1*

This app could be useful as it has lots of potential, unfortunately it crashes a lot particularly during date entry on my I phone so it will only ever calculate today's current information. The global maps also show no change and remain black even with data entered. Disappointed I paid for this and it is of minimal use as it looked promising. N

### 1/5 — Not as good as expected

*2013-03-23, version 1.0.1*

Only had it install for about five minutes and it's returned me to my iPad's home screen seven times so far. The app's still running and I can go back to it, but it keeps throwing me out.

Every D layer map shows a maximum frequency of 0 MHz all over the globe.

I think I want my money back. Shame I can't give no stars for the review as it doesn't deserve 1 star.

### 1/5 — Needs Work!!!

*2013-02-05, version 1.0.1*

Not impressed.

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2012-01-28, version 1.0.0*

Looks like a work in progress, this app is not ready for release, needs serious work.
Can I get my money back?

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great for someone learning

*2022-04-26, version 1.5*

I started keying when I was 13 years old I will be 51 this year but I never gotten this serious about amateur radio, my past experiences enabled me to pickup very quickly on this app and I find the propagation map to be extremely accurate for all frequencies,
I tested the map trajectory on frequency 27.385 LSB and I got skip from those areas the map predicted, your transmission wattage is also taken to determine proper propagation prediction from app.
Get a good SWR Meter to ensure your getting out !!!

### 5/5 — A Must-have...

*2021-12-29, version 1.5*

The iPad version is extremely useful, especially when mobile Dxing. Love it.

### 5/5 — Gutes Tool

*2020-08-26*

Defintiv hilfreich, um die zu erwartende Verbindungsqualität abzuschätzen.

### 5/5 — Really like this app.

*2018-12-22, version 1.5*

Very comprehensive set of tools for understanding propagation.

### 5/5 — Beautiful, worth every penny and then some.

*2018-11-14, version 1.5*

Thank you for making this great app. There is so much here. MUF, detailed solar conditions, maps, DX spot reports, and more. Perfect for DX-ing. -n0xmz

### 5/5 — Useful & Well Documented

*2018-09-01, version 1.5*

This App is a good iPad tool. It saves me a lot of knob spinning listening for which bands would be good to operate and which locations I might be able to reach. More specifically I can see whether or not to work QRP. I would appreciate a Settings field to optionally display kilometers or miles. Also a Windows App would be very nice. Good job overall.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2018-02-11, version 1.5*

This app is very useful for planning DX contacts.

Interested in reaching a specific geographic location on a specific frequency? You can check to find the optimum time to do so. Are you interested in contacting them NOW? This app helps you determine which band will give you the best results.

I’m still learning the app, but it’s already very useful to me.

### 5/5 — Not a bad app in the lot.

*2017-09-20, version 1.5*

I'm enjoying the info and was able to enter two locations where I SWL to. I set the watts to max and got a picture of good times to listen. This is with little knowledge of propagation.

### 5/5 — Great Tool

*2017-06-23, version 1.5*

DX Toolbox works very well. There was an issue with the Aurora because NOAA changed something, the author fixed it right away. Great support.
Thanks

### 5/5 — DX Toolbox

*2017-06-17, version 1.5*

Handy propagation display. Lots of useful information and radio applications instantly available at almost anywhere.
