### 3/5 — Was great in its time but only a matter of time

*2023-09-21, version 3.2*

Before it was a pointless add on of hardware. Would have been better to focus on zoom capabilities.

### 4/5 — Good, but a few added features would make it better

*2019-03-26, version 3.2*

I own a Xr and while I'm quite happy with the photos the built-in camera takes using Halide, if I'm taking more serious, artistic shots, I reach for my One and I've been quite happy with it.

However, I do have two requests that I think would take the DxO One to another level. One: Tighter integration with the Darkroom app. When I choose "Edit in Darkroom" from the Share option, nothing happens. It doesn't launch Darkroom.

Second, and this also ties in with Darkroom: RAW file editing. Right now the One only keeps JPEGs on the, while the RAW files are saved on the memory card. With Darkroom, I can edit RAW files, which is one of the key selling points of the DxO One. It would be great if I could open the RAW files from the One directly in Darkroom for editing.

If you can implement these two features, the DxO One would easily be a 5-star app and item, and a must-have in any mobile photographer's kit!

### 2/5 — iPhone XS Max issues?

*2018-10-13, version 3.2*

Initially worked when first connection using lightning connection after downloading the app. Disconnected from phone lightning connection and used wireless direct connection to shot video and snap shots. Now phone/app will not detect camera on lightning connection. On my iPad Pro it has no issues when performing the same tasks, but I purchased it for use on the go with the iPhone.

### 4/5 — App is not working

*2018-10-02, version 3.2*

App is not working on iPhone7 Plus. Any problem

### 4/5 — Almost perfect!

*2016-12-08, version 2.1.0*

Almost perfect but needs a time lapse feature or an intevalometer. Would be even better if it shot 2.7K video at?60FPS.

### 2/5 — Needs Refining

*2016-09-14, version 2.0.1*

Tends to take a long time to start up (8-10 seconds) and often does not recognise when the camera is plugged in. Not ideal if you are trying to take photos on the fly.

### 4/5 — Impressive update!

*2016-09-14, version 2.0*

The ability to remove the DxO and use it with wifi is awesome! It works well, though it disconnects after saving each shot. But easy enough to reconnect.

Smart Lighting is a nice feature, though it can easily overpower a shot.

My one wish is to be able to see real-time exposure changes on the iOS display (unless it's there and I'm missing it).

Nicely done! Looking forward to getting some accessories.

### 4/5 — Great camera

*2016-07-12, version 1.4.2*

Hard to tell the difference between the image form DXO and the ones from my Sony alpha 77. Sure The lenses make a difference but you can't beat the size.

### 4/5 — Much improved and still room for more

*2016-06-02, version 1.3.2*

The DXO dev's have done a great job of fine-tuning the app and adding new features. I like the framing assist in standalone mode and find I use it a lot more than I expected. That being said they have the potential to make it even better... add panorama, time-lapse, and noise reduction options to name a few. Hopefully they'll keep supporting us with new features.

### 1/5 — Est-ce vraiment un produit

*2016-05-23, version 1.3.2*

### 4/5 — Works Great Now!

*2016-03-27, version 1.3.1*

Wow! The devs have added and fixed some of the things I complained about in the last build. You can now save from the MicroSD while the camera is connected and it does not crash as much (the freezing bothered me, not as much now). The only thing is the camera occasionally says it is busy saving back to the phone and the phone is unable to take pictures until unplugging the DxO and re attaching. It happens sometimes and not always reproducible. Great job so far otherwise. Can't wait to try it on vacation!

### 1/5 — Unusable if the app freezes right when you are ready to shoot

*2016-02-28, version 1.2.1*

Just got done with a swim meet. Missed multiple starts as the app froze as soon as I tried to focus. Had to quickly yank the camera and go back to my iPhone camera as fast as possible. This thing is great in theory. In practice, I think I just wasted $700. Come on, developers. Fix this thing and I'll gladly revise my review.
Update: so the new version appears more stable. Will need a bit of time to test it in a more demanding environment. Raising my rating.
2nd update: took the DXO on a family ski trip. Still freezes ALL THE TIME. Totally unstable. Still feeling the pain

### 4/5 — Freezes resolved

*2016-02-26, version 1.2.1*

I thought the app was freezing and needed a restart every time it comes out of sleep mode (iPhone 6+). Instead it's a quirky non-intuitive process to wake the DXO One. If it's in power saving mode (Zzz on display) tap iPhone screen or half-press shutter button to wake. If it's in sleep mode (lens open, display blank) slide lens cover closed, count to 3, and slide it open again. In both cases it is rediscovered by the app and ready to shoot. This info changed my review from 1 to 4 stars.

### 1/5 — Freezes every time!

*2016-02-14, version 1.2.1*

How difficult is it fix a bug that happens every time you connect the camera? And what is the point of carrying $700 brick?

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — no GPS？

*2021-10-07, version 3.2*

No update for three years, too lazy, right? Now it can't record GPS location information.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work properly

*2020-03-22, version 3.2*

You used to be able to download RAW files from the device using the app to the phone, not any more you can only download JPEGs now. The app also freezes all the time. Disappointing support has been discontinued.

### 1/5 — Does not work on iPad Pro, iPhones 5 - X

*2019-07-24, version 3.2*

What a waste of money. This camera was sold and marketed to work with the iPhone. I’m not sure how something as simple as an App, as compared to the camera, would not work. Worse yet, the company doesn’t provide updates.

### 1/5 — No longer recognized by iphone X

*2018-12-19, version 3.2*

Since the last update my iphone X no longer recognizes the camera

### 1/5 — iPhone not recognizing camera

*2017-12-25, version 3.0.1*

I’m on iOS 11.2.1 with an iPhone 5s and the app does not recognize the camera when attached. This has been an issue for months now and makes the camera much less valuable. Essentially, it boils down to false advertising as the key element of the product does not work. There was a time when the phone did recognize the camera and I hope this issue is fixed soon.

FYI - the company’s support blog writes that this has been permanently resolved with an earlier iOS version than mine, but in my experience it remains an ongoing issue. I hope they are still working on this.

### 1/5 — Not compatible with iPhone X

*2017-11-27, version 3.0.1*

Nothing happens when I plug it into my new iPhone X. I tried to redownload the app and no go.

### 1/5 — Just why

*2017-07-23, version 2.2*

It's a free app but when you open it you have to pay to use it

### 1/5 — Crashes, loads blank pics to iPhone

*2017-04-12, version 2.1.0*

Needs to be fixed ! Currently I have a $500 paperweight

### 1/5 — Does not work with 10.3

*2017-04-03, version 2.1.0*

Crashed the photo and eats the battery alive. Was at 70% and for gets hot and 10 minutes later it's at 10%. Yet if I don't use camera battery last nearly all day. Photo have lines when transferred to photo. Seems dxo needs to be updated!!!

### 1/5 — Horrible Update!

*2016-06-13, version 1.4.0*

The newest update left the app non functional. It won't open up the camera and also makes it lag!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great camera!

*2024-02-27, version 3.2*

I purchased this camera knowing the company no longer supports it, so I fully expected this to not work. But the app is still available for iOS! Sadly the USB-C version of the camera and USB-C version of the iPhone aren’t compatible.

### 5/5 — Fantastic PRO grade cam

*2020-10-19, version 3.2*

I really like it - yet auto bracketing for HDR would have been an excellent feature.

### 5/5 — Better Interface Than From Any Other Camera Manufacturer IMO

*2018-05-08, version 3.2*

This is about the software and not about the DXO One unit.

Total control over the image taking process then the ability to share using the connectivity of my iPhone X.

My work flow.

Take picture in Raw file format.
Raw stored to DXO One.
Import to LR Mobile App.
Process.
Option to send to iOS camera roll or to keep in LR.
Share

It doesn’t get much better for me for travel and family events.

### 5/5 — My favorite work tool and toy

*2018-01-06, version 3.0.1*

I’m a producer and a painter. I use this to time lapse art, shoot locations for scouting, and shoot backstage. Everyone is blown away when I show them what this little guy does. Yes SOMETIMES the app on the phone doesn’t open but just open the app yourself and you should be fine. I would say that this is also more convenient, more reliable and faster than the camera on the iPhone.

I also am really looking forward to taking this surfing in the water housing. I have had several friends switch from GoPro to this. I love dxo and I am looking forward to seeing what’s in store for them in the future.

Merci beaucoup bonne travail!

### 5/5 — This app is useful!

*2017-11-10, version 3.0.1*

This app is useful!but my dxo one is broken.how can I get it to repair，you konw，dxo is no service in China

### 5/5 — Fantastic App

*2016-09-01, version 1.4.2*

Clearly one needs the DXO One camera to make this App functional.

I bought the DXO One camera and find that I now that although I have three cameras in total- the one I take out most of all is the DXO One. The combination of an SLR quality camera body and the iPhone as a controller and viewfinder is an awesome combo!

The App makes it very easy to take truly high quality pictures.

### 5/5 — Edited review: perfect camera !

*2016-01-19, version 1.2.1*

Fixed freezing issue with the 1.2.1 update. Amazing quality camera perfect for street photography as I don't need to lug my SLR around.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2016-01-18, version 1.2*

Excellent app layout and functionality: simple, intuitive and clean. The app compliments the hardware perfectly ... Wish all camera apps were like this.

### 5/5 — Love It!

*2015-12-07, version 1.2*

I own the DxO One and absolutely love it! I knew what I was looking for and this camera delivered. I wanted the most compact form factor I could get while still having the ability to shoot RAW. Since I always have my iPhone with me, carrying the DxO One is the smallest RAW camera I could carry. The IQ of the photos is very impressive. It definitely gives me better photos than my iPhone (which is no slouch), but the iPhone can’t compete because of sensor size and lens. This new update shows that DxO Labs can add new features through software updates that actually really provide some new features rather than just bug fixes.
As with anything, nothing is perfect. For example, there is no optical zoom. Need to physically move closer or farther from your subject.
But all in all, for what I was looking for, especially the ability to shoot in RAW, tiny form factor, and superb IQ (image quality), combined with an iPhone that provides a big view finder and the ability to instantly share your photos just like any on your iPhone make this product well worth my investment in it.

### 5/5 — Amazing camera, amazing app

*2015-09-25, version 1.1.1*

The DxO One camera truly changes the way I take photos with my iPhone. Say goodbye to noisy blurry nighttime photos and portraits with everything in focus. Say hello to amazing resolution, low light performance, and beautiful portrait bokeh.

The associated app works like a camera should. Not an iPhone camera but a real Dslr or compact style camera. Plus with the beauty of being always connected and app and feature updates. A true marriage of the best of mobile iphoneography and of a Dslr camera.
