### 4/5 — Good app

*2018-03-13, version 1.1*

This app helped me in some ways and in others not so much. Auditory it has, but music is so much more than just the “listening” part. Maybe with the combination of a visual and auditory component the gap would be crossed.
I think the app has some room to grow and develop. During the feedback process of getting an answer wrong it doesn’t go into much detail other than, you got this wrong and its part of this song. That’s great but what about a visual cue? Like an image of the notes on a piano so you could see what notes they were and where they fall with each other to better understand why you got the answer wrong.
I think the simplicity of the app is very very appealing to on the go students (and mom's) like myself. I can almost do this anywhere, as long as I can hear what is going on. I can pop in a movie so my toddler can watch it for about an hour and I can be doing this during it and not be disturbed by her too much. I can do it while I'm waiting for a class or waiting for something. Pretty much any down time this app could be used to help build your ear. It would be cool if there was a vocal way of letting the app know so you could even do it during a long commute to work or school.

Over all a great app and so glad my teacher introduced us to this and the musicopoulos package. It is well worth the buy. Coupled with Theory.net it has helped me through my theory and aural skills class this last quarter. I hope it will help many more students and eager learners of music just as it has to me.

### 4/5 — Helpful

*2017-04-02, version 1.0.2*

Helpful, has some thought to the levels it guides you through. Occasionally will not make sound until I force close and restart.

### 4/5 — Great but missing

*2016-10-19, version 1.0.2*

It's a great app and challenging but I feel like I'm improving a little every time I use it. I just wish it had guitar sounds instead of just piano.

### 4/5 — Great app - read on

*2016-06-21, version 1.0.2*

I am learning the trumpet, started about 6 years. I took a couple of courses and one instructor said I was tone deaf and my attempt to train my ear began. I believe this is my 8th ear training app and by far the best for me. Not only have I notice improvement in recognizing tones and intervals my playing has improved as well.

### 5/5 — Good for basic drilling

*2015-09-28, version 1.0.2*

This is a great app for practicing your ear training. By no means should you train by this alone, though. Take an ear training/aural skills class and use this to help you excel.

### 4/5 — Features to add:

*2015-06-26, version 1.0.2*

1. Break down the stages so I can see how many levels are in each one, and go back and practice certain levels. Also I should see my scores on all levels so I know my sticking points.

### 5/5 — All musicians should use this app

*2015-05-31, version 1.0.2*

I've wanted something like this for years. My guitar skills have definitely improved since I've started using this, and I haven't even made it to the chords section and the improvements in skill are notable. The convenience of being able to do ear training anywhere, with guidance, is the best part.

### 5/5 — Killer app!!!

*2015-05-05, version 1.0.2*

Great way to study intervals and train your ear.

### 5/5 — Ear training

*2015-01-31, version 1.0.2*

Great to use in conjunction with a guided ear training method.

### 4/5 — Not a course

*2015-01-21, version 1.0.2*

This app is not an ear training course. It is just about drills. It's great for that. It could benefit from giving examples instead just telling you about what to look for.

If you use this as a complement to your ear training class, it is great. By itself, it can only can reinforce what you know.

### 5/5 — Excellent trainer

*2015-01-16, version 1.0.2*

This app is simple, organized, and directs you in a near-perfect way to perfect pitch. It's easy to pick up for any amount of time, a plane ride or a few minutes at a bus station, to test yourself and become more familiar with intervals, chords, and scales. 10/10!

### 5/5 — Really great app

*2014-07-09, version 1.0.2*

This is a great app!

### 5/5 — Great App

*2014-06-07, version 1.0.2*

It's helping my ear training a lot!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Perfect yet flawed

*2019-02-08, version 1.1*

My biggest issue with the app is that it doesn’t encourage or support continued study. For instance. For interval training there are 6 stages. Within each stage are levels. It is totally lame that you can not select which level within a stage you would like to study or practice. You have to start each stage from the beginning. So if you want to rework level 5 inside stage 3, you’re going to have to go at it from the beginning. This goes for chords and scale sections as well. Super dumb and is why I no longer use it.

### 1/5 — No sound

*2017-01-18, version 1.0.2*

I would give this app five stars if the sound didn't shut off every time I go to another app and come back to it, or when my phone goes to sleep and I wake it back up. Sometimes the sound comes back after several hours, or after I restart my iPhone. It's really infuriating. Can the developers advise, please?

### 1/5 — Not customizable exercises

*2015-06-27, version 1.0.2*

Should have a customizable setting for exercises

### 1/5 — stupid stupid stupid

*2014-12-09, version 1.0.2*

if you have no ear and no knowledge this app will make you feel good. If you have any natural music ability or knowledge, not so much. It will make you FEEL GOOD, not actually learn much.

### 1/5 — Programming Issue

*2014-08-10, version 1.0.2*

This app certainly has the potential to be the best ear training app out there (as well as an incredibly useful tool for all musicians) but one main problem (that can be easily fixed) serves to currently squash all those hopes. When using the app, regardless of whatever ear training exercise you're doing (intervals, scales, chords) it'll usually give you 4 selections to choose from. However it NEVER repeats!!!! Meaning, when it randomly selects one of the 4 intervals, scales, or chords for you to decipher it won't randomly choose that same interval scale or chord immediately after, and that's extremely annoying, pointless, and only serves to single handedly defeat any true purposes of ear training. Because it's not truly random (as it obviously should be) and I inherently know an answer will never repeat, instead of always using my ear I can't help but deduce the right answer by simple logic. And this DEFEATS the sole purpose of ear training which is to train you TO USE YOUR EARS!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FIX THIS!!! I really like this app, aside from that, and if that was fixed this would be an amazing and incredibly useful tool as well as something every musician and music student should own. I currently can't recommend it tho when I can't even use it myself, when it doesn't benefit me at all or train my ears. Often what happens is there are four answers (intervals like 2nd, 3rd, 4th 5th) and I hear the interval and deduce it's obviously a 4th (as an example) because it's a high interval and the last interval was a 5th and can't repeat. It totally makes the app completely useless!!! Hopefully you'll fix this because this app would be something I'd recommend to every musician and music student (ie: all my friends and students).

### 1/5 — It does not operate.

*2013-10-14, version 1.0.1*

I can't open the app.

### 1/5 — Not working

*2013-10-13, version 1.0.1*

Tried it in two different 4th generation devices and its only showing the splash screen and then it all goes black.

You should have warned about the compatibility issues, i want my money back...

### 3/5 — Okay... Good drills, if annoyingly vague

*2017-03-19, version 1.0.2*

Looks like this hasn't been updated in years, which is a real shame as some improvements would really help this shine. Agree with others that say it doesn't give you enough information about what is going wrong. For intervals, I have to sit in front of my piano and play the notes with it to hear the interval, see what it is make a note and try to figure out what is going wrong on my own. Which is pretty difficult being that I'm the one having the problem.

So, it's a bit of a stretch to call this app a "course", it doesn't help or guide you much at all, but the materials it gives you are good. Just be prepared to resist throwing your phone into the wall. Because since the app does little to help when it's not going well, and you can't go back to brush up on anything before to try and get a better grasp on parts that are giving you trouble without deleting progress from entire sections, you're likely to find yourself more frustrated than you thought was possible.

It's not a terrible app, but the details and presentation leave a lot to be desired. Was going to check out their other apps but after this one, I think I'll look elsewhere.

### 3/5 — More technical info with mistakes

*2016-07-05, version 1.0.2*

The help system tells what intervals are consonant and dissonant. Be nice if the error messages would report the specific details of one's mistake, for example: Incorrect. The two notes were E and F, which is a minor 2d and is therefore dissonant. Listen to the example again to become more familiar with the dissonant sound of a minor 2d.

I use this app a lot, but would buy one that integrates, in the error message, the knowledge being taught with the very simple details of what is being taught.

### 3/5 — Some serious issues!

*2014-06-07, version 1.0.2*

I think this is the most useable ear training app, which I bought several of them. But there are some serious problems about it.
1, why constantly rearrange the answers? It is meaningless, no one would want to cheat in this training. This is so annoying that I almost wanted to toss my ipad on the ground.
2, why do I have to change speed every time I open this app?
3, the hints on errors are totally useless, though the dev must have spent lot of time to collect them, I still don't want to appreciate them.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Has Improved My Musicianship

*2017-11-24, version 1.1*

This app covers a lot of areas and I feel I have really benefitted from it. I use it in 4 ways: Intervals, Scales, Chords and then I identify notation on a bass staff by tapping the note on an image of a bass guitar fingerboard. I have another app for reading rhythms notation. By doing both, I have learned to read music. And by doing all of these exercises, I have become a much better musician. All through two apps.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2017-08-01, version 1.0.2*

Absolutely helped me a lot

### 5/5 — Good app!

*2017-05-14, version 1.0.2*

Makes me learn more about music, using others ways too. But good app

### 5/5 — Repetition leads to mastery.

*2017-04-27, version 1.0.2*

Repetition leads to mastery. If you dont have patience nor the drive to learn, don't bother downloading this app. However, if you want to expand your listening skills which many students tend to neglect, definitely get this app. Follow every and each instruction and if you feel lost, you should brush up you theory with the musicopoulos app. I've improved a great deal by using these apps along with other materials. Discipline is the key :)

### 5/5 — Really improved my ear

*2017-01-21, version 1.0.2*

Sometimes had to google stuff to understand exactly what they were talking about, but the quizzes and advice really helped me make huge improvements in my ability to identify chords and intervals. Yay!

### 5/5 — Finally!!! A great ear training app

*2016-05-15, version 1.0.2*

Amazing app! Finally found an ear training app that works! Great job

### 5/5 — I see progress

*2016-04-23, version 1.0.2*

I am Singer and songwriter. with this application I really see progress. I've trained my ear so I can hear more than I used to. Thank you so much for those developers who made this application for musicians, singers and songwriters

### 5/5 — Meets my needs

*2016-03-19, version 1.0.2*

Good value as a package with theory and metronome apps. Looking forward to upgrades.

### 5/5 — great app

*2016-02-25, version 1.0.2*

you still have to practice your instrument but this app is great and allows you to study music when you otherwise might not be able to

### 5/5 — Wonderful app

*2015-12-23, version 1.0.2*

I got this app because I needed a program/app that could teach Ear Training. I could have programmed my own, but it would have taken too long, so I got this app. Wonderful! Very thorough in its teaching method.
