### 5/5 — Great for Science

*2016-01-12*

If you're studying or tracking earthquakes, this app is great! It's very accurate all around the globe! As of now, the app is free(which is good!). The updates are not too expensive with special incentives for the user. This keeps users "tuned in" and always up to date with the latest on global earthquakes.

### 5/5 — Informative

*2015-05-30*

Even though there haven't been any in my area, it's still awesome to have this data on hand, at any time!

### 5/5 — Very nice free earthquake app

*2015-04-11*

With the Earthquake Monitor app I can set it to notify me if an earthquake occurred within a selectable distance around me as well as being able to set the magnitude level of the earthquake. Initially I set it to all earthquakes of magnitude 1 or greater to verify that the notifications were working. I got a notification in less than 30 minutes. The notification came with a distinctive audio alert so as to easily discern that it was an earthquake notification. Also there is a tsunami alert capability such that if an earthquake is judged to be capable of creating a tsunami then I would get notified of those regardless of the range or magnitude setting.

The app also has a list capability showing all earthquakes occurrences in the last 24 hours. There is a unique slider at the top of the list such that I can quickly filter the list to earthquakes of a certain magnitude or greater. This is the only app I have seen that lets me quickly filter the earthquake list to precise magnitude level. Other apps I've seen are more general, e.g. any quake greater than magnitude 5.
Earthquake time listings are automatically adjusted for my local time zone. Most apps I've seen display the earthquake occurence in GMT time.

Also, earthquakes can be displayed as distance and bearing from my location. So I can easily sort the list by distance so that I can see earthquakes that are close to me.

In summary Earthquake Monitor is a very nice and free earthquake app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Can't remove ads!

*2019-03-02*

App listing says there is an IAP to remove the ads for $1.99, but in the app it says "no longer available". Very unethical, and deleted.

**Developer response:** No malice or unethical conduct intended. Update issued as of 04/20/2021

### 2/5 — Keeps bothering me for nothing

*2016-09-05*

I set it to "alert quakes stronger than mag 6" and "limit to near my location". HOWEVER, it keeps bothering me of mag 4 quakes in Puerto Rico. I'm in Hawaii, so that's about 6,000 miles away, almost halfway around the world!

**Developer response:** Any issue should have been corrected in more recent versions. If you are still having issues email me at davidgrossapps@gmail.com from within the app with your Notification Token.

### 3/5 — Nice slim app

*2016-01-27*

With the ads switch in this update to Google, tell us what info is shared w/them. It's not enuf to say what isn't. Google makes it's $ selling our privacy & we need transparency what it's really costing us & what is being collected by whom. We should have an opt out. It's really nobody's business, except it's mfr, what I do with an app!

**Developer response:** Update issued as of 04/20/2021 with no ads

### 4/5 — App Versions, updating

*2018-04-06*

Good App works pretty well but today there was a 5.3 Earthquake in Southern California ( date: 04-05-2018). It seemed the update was a bit slow but the 5.3 did show up on the page of daily Earthquakes. I’m not sure why the update was so slow. Also would you consider doing an Android version of this app if possible.

### 4/5 — Great start

*2016-09-02*

I have been using this app, along with two others, for six days. Of these, this app seems to have the most reasonable default notification settings - moderate quakes near me, and major quakes worldwide. Other apps alert me to minor quakes worldwide (alert overload) and imperceptible quakes near me, and want me to make in-app-purchases (IAP) to change the settings.

Unfortunately, many quakes have the Possible Tsunami tag line added, unnecessary. I'm pretty sure a 4.1 quake is hardly likely of triggering even the most localized of tsunamis…

### 5/5 — Used This App For Years

*2026-02-03*

Highly recommended. Reliable. Quick notifications. Easy to use and adjust settings. This is the only EQ app I use.

### 5/5 — Superior

*2025-05-29*

The best I’ve tried compared to all the highly rated ones. Thank you!

### 5/5 — A really good app

*2025-04-15*

I’ve had this app for several months, and I really do appreciate the reporting features.

### 5/5 — Clean, easy to use, timely

*2024-12-06*

I am an amateur with strong interest in plate tectonic, quakes, and volcanology. This app is an excellent. Map (both satellite and graphic views) is excellent and easy to use. No frills—just cleanly displayed and immediate info.

### 5/5 — Very good!

If you want a high quality earthquake app, this is it!

**Developer response:** Thank you for the review!

### 5/5 — Very Accurate App

I felt this earthquake tonight and this App reported the earthquake 3 minutes later. You are not going to get any fast response than that. This app has a very special feature that allows me to set the area where my daughter lives and know if there is an earthquake there long before there is any notification on the news or on the internet.

### 5/5 — Cool app

*2016-05-12*

As someone who lives in California this app is a must have. Makes you appreciate how much the earth is moving around.

### 5/5 — Works Great very basic and easy to use...

*2016-02-14*

App was hard to find at first (keyword earth quake wasn't showing it but USGS did) App functions great and is customizable on distance and magnitude alerts. On the Santas list the ability to change the sound to something more alert (louder) if needed. Easy to use!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2016-01-23*

I'm liking this app more and more now. It works great . I like to be able to see nearby cities as well. I used to have the app from the Red Cross for years but they recently updated it and it is now the worst of them all. Thank You
