Art and music are especially good, and the narrative is breathtaking. But, for the life of me, I can’t deduce where it employs AR. They did get $20,000 reparation, for each person up to just prior to my wife Keiko’s birth. I am British, but my Japanese family made me part of theirs immediately. Several of our relatives were interred in Raymond, some live in Coaldale, Alberta. I am very proud of the family I married into 42 years ago. My wife’s parents were both first born nissei so they were sent by their families by tradition to live with their grandparents to learn the language and traditions of Japan. They came back from Japan to brothers and sisters that found it hard to relate to a broth or sister that knew Japanese more than English and then to end up shoved into the Hastings Park ‘temporary housing’ cramped bunks with only what you could carry. Even very long after it all happened, my brother-in-law left for Portland, Oregon, due to name calling by his neighbour. So proud to be a part of their family. Thank you for this. Very slow. I wasn’t able to finish it and thought I could return to the same place, but no, I’d have had to start at the beginning again. It was not racist to put Japanese immigrants in camps during ww2. What they did to Asia and America will never be forgotten. It was not a prison yet alone a concentration camp. People exaggerate the facts. We should feel no remorse for this. When I was 7 I had a Japanese tutor tell me how Canadians are bad people and evil for what they did to Japanese. ### 1/5 — Long et impossible d’accélérer la narration *2019-03-02, version 1.0* D’abord, je sympatise avec les personnes qui on subi ces déplacements. Toutefois, si je veux bien comprendre l’histoire, on ne peux accélérer. Les étapes sont vérouillées. Il y a beaucoup de temps mort pour rien. Exemple: les dessins. Les photos à prendre. Trouver les objets brillants pour continuer. Aucun intérêt. Le logiciel a bogué avec la hache. J’ai dû recommencer l’histoire du début. Pas moyen de se rendre ou j’étais rendu. L’idée de toucher les objets brillants est une perte de temps. Prendre des photos est intéressant mais on aurait dû mettre de vrais photos, pas des dessins. Perte de temps aussi. Je n’ai pas eu le temps de me rendre à la fin car c’est trop long et ennuyant. Je vais me documenter sur Google. Dommage, car l’histoire est intéressante. Personnelement, j’efface ce logiciel après cet avis. Enfin, c’est bien beau mettre les sous-titres en français. Mais une telle narration aurait facilement pu être enregistrée en français. C’est quand même curieux qu’on ait fait la promotion de l’importance de cet évènement mais que la narration soit en anglais seulement alors que le français est aussi une langue officielle au Canada... Le logiciel est gratuit maintenant jusqu’au 8 mars 2019. Après, il sera 2.99. Ne mettez pas un sous là-dedans. I’m a big fan of Joy Kogawa and wanted to use this game in my grade 10 Canadian history class. There is no sound and the graphics are very poor. Not at all as advertised on the website. The plot is slow moving, with the only game mechanic the ability to click on certain objects. Couple things though: It’s pretty buggy (2018 iPad running latest iOS). Like another review mentioned, I needed to restart at the wood chopping scene. The objects should flash more obviously, as some are hard to see. It would also have been interesting to have a brief pre-internment scene. Maybe some Oregon Trail-type games would make it a bit more engaging for kids? Overall, still an amazing use of AR that does an excellent job of telling this shameful, yet important, part of Canadian history. ### 5/5 — Great and personal to me *2019-03-15, version 1.0* My still living grandmother was born in Slocan, BC in 1920. She and her family had to endure the humiliation of having all of their assets seized despite being born in Canada! But they looked different so it's okay I guess. Don't lump the Canadians that were interred during WW2 with the Japanese Empire. My grandmother had never even been to Japan but was declared an enemy of the state. Reparations were given in the 80s to those still alive. $20k! Gee thanks but was had several fishing boats and a hotel. Why wasn't the property returned at the end of the war? Why to pay for their incarceration of course.
