## What is EatAWhale?

EatAWhale helps you stay engaged with the things you care about.

How do you eat a whale? One bite at a time.

Add your interests: hobbies, skills, subscriptions, side projects, anything you want to keep alive. Check in when you engage with them. EatAWhale tracks how often you show up and shows you when things start to fade.

It is a habit tracker for the things you do because you love them, not because you have to. It shows you the truth about where your attention went and leaves the judgment to you.

DASHBOARD
See all your interests at a glance. Cards change color as they age, from green when fresh to amber when due, fading to grey when neglected. One tap to check in.

FOCUS VIEW
Go one card at a time. See your heatmap, stats, and streak for each interest without distraction.

THE REEF
Your interests become fish in a living underwater scene. Depth shows what needs attention: fish that are due patrol near the surface, healthy ones cruise mid-water, and long-neglected ones drift down to rest on the seabed until a bite wakes them. Interests that share a tag school together as the same species, and a sun and moon cross the sky on your own time zone's clock.

CONSTELLATION
Your interests as stars on a dark sky. Watch your history play back as stars light up. The more you engage, the bigger they grow.

TUNES
Today's piece renders as a real musical score. Each bite plays its phrase and lights it in that interest's color, and finished pieces shelve in a songbook.

FEED
A light vertical scroll where every card pairs one of your interests with a wholesome image or a warm compliment. Log a bite straight from the card.

PROGRESS
Track your streaks, see your heatmap, and watch your engagement patterns over 7, 30, or 90 days.

EXPENSES
Track what your interests cost. See your cost per bite drop as you engage more. Know exactly what you're paying for the things you love.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.6 — 2026-08-07

Under the hood improvements to keep EatAWhale running smoothly. No new features this time.

### 1.0.5 — 2026-07-12

The Reef is here: a new way to see your interests.

Switch to the Reef layout and your interests become fish in a living underwater scene. Depth tells you what needs attention at a glance: fish that are due for a bite patrol near the surface, healthy ones cruise mid-water, and long-neglected ones drift down to rest on the seabed until a bite wakes them. Interests that share a tag school together as the same species.

Tap a fish to open its card and log a bite. Press and drag through the water and the nearby fish gather to your finger. A sun and moon cross the sky on your own timezone's clock, and the moon shows tonight's real phase.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-07-04

The application makes sounds now! Bites play a note that rises with your rhythm streak, and the Stars view has an optional ambience: the Stars view has an optional soundscape with three levels: off, comet chimes, or the full ambience, toggled with the speaker in the toolbar.

The Stars view also got a glow-up: an edge-to-edge sky with passing satellites, comets, and auroras, a cleaner toolbar (Today and History replays, settings behind a gear), and smoother pinch-to-zoom.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-06-27

New in this update:

Native date pickers. Anywhere you enter a date now opens your phone's built-in calendar, so picking an expense date, a start date, or a day to look back on is quick and familiar.

"What do you pay for?" Mark what you spend across all your interests in one quick pass, and see what each bite actually costs.

A bigger interest library. We added Photography, Dance, and Crafts, plus more ways to build your space.

Look back to any day. Time travel on your dashboard now reaches any past date, not just the last month.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-06-14

Thanks for using EatAWhale. This update sharpens how rhythm and streaks work, with a few fixes that needed a fresh build:
  - Rhythm now counts cycles, not bites. Feed a weekly interest several times in one week and it reads as one week of rhythm, not several. The streak flame lights up once you have kept the rhythm for two cycles.
  - Calmer heatmap. The activity chain glows evenly and breathes in sync, instead of one cell burning brighter than the rest.
  - Smoother loading. No more white flash when an update applies, or when you collapse the sidebar on iPad.
  - Cleaner home-screen name. The app now shows as EatAWhale.

More improvements keep arriving automatically over the air. One bite at a time.
